  • You’re in a conversation and someone says, “I don’t like any of the candidates so I’m not voting.”
    What would you say?
Sometimes choices in elections can be very difficult. In an ideal world, citizens would always have the chance to vote between really great people, and choose the one they agree with in every way.
Often, however, citizens do not have that option. But that doesn’t mean they should just throw away their ballots, and here are three reasons why:
First, a vote doesn’t always mean “I think they’re great.” It may just mean “I think they’re better.”
Second, vote for the best policies.
Third, vote for the best team.

Better to not vote when you are uncertain, then to gamble with an entire country. If politics is not for you, then don’t vote. If you are passionate and like to read up on economics, societal philosophy, and political trends, then go for it! Of course its best to become informed to take advantage of this right that not every country has if you are confident in the preferred direction for a country, but if you dont know what you’re doing, that’s fine too, some people are understandably too busy for politics. In this case, be responsible. Stay at home and leave it to the people that actually did their homework. If you vote, don’t just be a an echo used to boost someone else’s ideology. Respect yourself. And vote for what YOU want for yourself, not what your friends and family want you to vote for.

@@TGriner The choice to not vote in itself is still a great privilege just like voting. And yes i agree, a non-vote is indeed a vote. If you are uncertain, and therefore decide to not vote, i would say that provides the most honest route you can take to represent the position if an undecided American. I don’t see why you should say “hmmm im not sure who i want in office changing major policy for the next 4 years but fuckit, ill vote anyway!”. Voting is not for everyone and its a beautiful thing that it is that way. There’s no need to “get a grip” so long as the option to vote still exists for all other Americans who are more confident on a political side. If not voting would be something that makes you feel small than GOOD, you have motivation to research policymaking which will help you feel confident at the ballots. If not, also good! The choice between both options is part of the privilege. There’s no need to gamble with an entire country like it’s a poker chip. I voted but i still greatly respect those that don’t vote by choice

If you're committed to choosing one of two candidates, you're incentivizing each party to nominate a candidate who's just slightly better than the competitor. It's the Price is Right strategy, bidding one dollar higher. And ultimately, that's what leads us into situations in which all candidates are terrible.

If the candidate really wanted your support, he would take a position that you would be ok with. This past election, both candidates were making plays to excite different contingents of American voters (the left or right). If you don't find your self aligned with either camp, you don't need to take the L and vote for something wrong. Vote for a third party candidate that is more aligned to your position, and let the major parties take the L (imagine what would happen if more people voted against both parties). What we don’t do is a choice that affects everyone not just one person. And when we don’t vote, we hand over the work to someone who basically we didn’t want anyways. May as well choose the person who will do the least damage and become more involved. Opting out is how we got here. 🤷🏽‍♀️We all have to accept that we play a role in the betterment of our society or its destruction. Choices. And ignoring it isn’t changing anything.

Neither is attempting to engage with the problem. It's almost as if nothing is working and the only thing you can do, is stop wasting your time and move on. Proud lifelong non-voter.

The problem with voting for the least damage candidate is that they then interpret your vote as a wholesale endorsement of their agenda which in 2024 is either radical left or radical right. Just wait to see whoever wins talking about their voter supported "mandate" to do something extreme

Just realize when your candidates are the same ones from last time 😂

I can't bring myself to vote for Trump...
And that's also mostly true for the Democratic party Platform.
Trump is basically suppressing most of the things that I like about the Republican party...
And is honestly the biggest argument for voting for the Democratic nominee.

@Cassus Belli Which is a BIG part of the problem.
Even ignoring all the casual anti Christian sentiment, or the Socialistic/Communistic rhetoric, among the Democrats...
Their Party Platform is approving of things like Near-to/After Birth Abortion, and Lgbtq+ rights supremacism. (Usually at the expense of specifically religious freedoms, but also including anything else)

@@thomashewitt8899 Not voting certainly does help the least popular candidate. If all of the people that did not want another 4 years of biden stayed home that would give the election to trump. I did not want another Biden presidency but I would have voted for him to keep Trump out.

@@chipsdad5861 Wrong of course friend as not voting does not benefit either candidate, let alone the least popular one, once again.

    Both sides dismissed him......
I would have voted for Vivek or Cruz (!If he were running)
I'd thought long and hard on this
I don't care for either candidate....
Trump is arrogant and Harris is incompetent...
    ( Some choice, huh)
Harris was in office almost 4 Years
    She's done Nothing!!
Jan 6th is hard to forget...
Not to mention Trump's smug demeanor and talk..
He swears and openly mocks people in public....
I may not vote for either of these....
