I didn't think you were going to like this at all. A lot of people don't get Primus at all. But you get it.😊
you know all of the bass guitars les claypool plays he makes by hand from scratch....?
primus is latin for 'the best'.
i love your video's because they seem genuine. if you don't like something plz be honest.
Double Bass string instrument
Bass is pronounced as base, brother! I made that mistake when I was young and was promptly corrected on it, lol. Just thought I'd share. Primus is a great band. Les definitely inspired a love in the bass guitar for me. One Better is one of my favorite songs they play. They have a cartoon music video made for it that's pretty wild. Check it out sometime!
I assumed he was being silly... I've heard him pronounce "bass" correctly in other videos...
He said it right in this video too but he wasn't talking about bass guitar but just bass in general
@@pointlessmanatee Maybe there was a bass fish in the ice block! In the video commentary on the DVD Les tells what that fish is. I forget, though.
How would you prepare a bass, with lemon dill marinade?
@@michaellamb9596 sounds like a solid plan to me
fun fact: Primus is the only band on iTunes that's it's own genre. So it's band: Primus. Song: Mr. Krinkle. Genre: Primus.
That bass line is so addictive - it'll be stuck in your head for days now. (That's a good thing.)
This takes me right back to the early 90s. So many good Primus memories from that time. 🤘🤘
In 1993/4 i was sick as fuck the worst flu I've ever had and found a tape in the kitchen put it into my tape deck in my room had it on repeat and heard that tape over and over and over and over again i couldn't get out of bed to change the tape and didn't really want to it was THE SEA OF CHEESE and that's how i got introduced to PRIMUS and choice one flu without you i might not have given their out there sounds a decent crack
Bro for something different from here in Aotearoa New Zealand MISSING TEETH live at New Zealand Punk Fest Song THE PLAGUE it's a really good recording and video and The Murder Chord from Auckland Aotearoa new zealand Song NEXT YEAR'S GONNA BE BETTER two piece keyboards and drums David on keyboards and vocals was Missing Teeth's drummer and Ryan on Drum's used to be the Drummer for Real Real Sick and is solid as 👍👏👏👏🤘✌️ this two piece sounds like a full four/five piece band there's nothing missing
I got to mosh to Primus at the Haight street fair in 89. On the bill with Faith No More.
Those were the days...
Les Claypool is amazing in his own unique way. And amazing live
He is definitely one of the best stage performers I’ve ever seen.
Primus classics - 'DMV'... 'American life'... 'To defy the laws of tradition'... 'Bob'... 'Shake hands with beef'... 'Lacquer head'... 'Sergeant Baker' 🔥🔥🤘🤘
Love lacquer head!!!
Never hear/read people mention The Toys go Winding Down, but that's one of my absolute favorites. Makes me wonder if I'm in the minority on that one.
@@lucidcharade12 that's a great one....bass riff with good headphones on rattles the brain
"this song has a more conventional sound" whoever said that got you😂
that was me😎
@@georgelynch6139 , George, you hero among men.
@@georgelynch6139And I say unto thee
@@bareakon Well...”say baby”
They're incredible live. Les NEVER disappoints.
I remember seeing Primus play at an OzzFest, which is weird enough... then Bucket Head walked out.
I actually use Mr. Krinkle as a litmus test. Generally speaking, if you like Mr. Krinkle, you will likely appreciate a fair bit of their catalog.
Same
Primus is my favourite band and this is not a top song for me, at all.
That's fair.
I’d say if you liked pork soda the song you’d prolly like most their catalog. Took me many years of liking them to like is it luck. Which now I love
I think it's one of their more mainstream friendly songs. I could see someone liking this and not some their other songs. Anyway, it rocks either way.
This is pure Primus.
One of my favorite reactions I’ve had is playing music at work and this some come up. “What Is that!?” Than having a 10 min conversation of “What a Primus” is.
My memories of Primus are still my favorite ever. All the bay area funk bands really. And now I appreciate them even more when i want to weird out my younger family members. Glad you joined us in liking Primus Polo.
It was a great period in the Bay area club scene,
Fungo Mungo!
7th grade, Walkman, Utah Mormon town, jammin’, girl I had a crush on: “ What are you listening to?”, “Here, check it out”, Listens to THIS song, “Eww weird”
2 days later got my first kiss from said crush😁
This was my first time seeing this video too! LOVED IT!
You can't go wrong with Primus. Always enjoy your videos 👍
I love that you appreciate Primus. They are my favorite band and I love when they get the appreciation they deserve.
This is the first song (and video) from Primus that I ever heard (and saw, 🤣). I will never forget it. I was up late watching MTV at my grandparent's house writing down the names of cool bands that popped up with the after hours videos, when the pop videos faded out. I was so blown away! I couldn't take my eyes off it. It was like, "What am I watching here?" They were so far outside the norm that I was enamored - and have been ever since.
Totally underrated song! The video was done in one take, BTW. John the Fisherman, please! Southbound Pachyderm and Camelback Cinema are also great.
I've been hoping someone would recommend Mr. Krinkle! Love this song and video. Thanks Polo!
The first time I seen this video I went out a purchased everything primus had out at the time everything plus concerts since
I was born in the same city as Les was, Parkersburg WV
Wasn’t he born in California?
The Pork Soda was my introduction to Primus when it was released. I remember how cool it was to know they were touring with Rush and were hugely influenced by them (Rush).
I really hope you get to see them live. The experience of a Primus show is incredible
Just dropped $1K for front row center for my first Primus show. I know you feel it! Can’t wait! Good job man.
The first time I heard Primus was when I was 13 years old in 1993. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area every New Years Primus will have a concert I begged my parents to let me go but they never let me.
dude you have to see him live!! he is mind blowing!
“The greatest kind of weird there is” sums up Primus perfectly
I was at a concert where Primus opened for Tool, and he brought out the Mr. Krinkle mask.
More conventional? Ummm...surrrre. How about simply great!
Edit: Les Claypool is the madman on the bass and vocals.
Lol ikr 😂 If the song is conventional, then it ain’t Primus 🤘
Saw them in concert in my hometown Worcester Ma. mid 90's Small venue, up close and personal. Phenomenal live show.
That was one of their best, it was crazy good when it came out, and it holds up perfectly today!
This is the Primus that I love so much. Great to see you react to it. Live shows, you know it's going to be crazy when he busts out the Big Bass. Fun fact, his future wife is performing in this video. The band "The Residents" influenced Primus a lot, and this video could have easily been a Residents song.
Check out "Moisture" by The Residents. Primus used to play Residents covers live, and pressed a few covers on releases.
"Thats Herb! Herb the geniuson drummer"!
That would indeed be a SHOW to see 😁😁
Lov3 them. Greatest video ever Mr krinkel
Randomly saw them live in Guadalajara Mexico quite a few years ago. Smaller venue. Top ten best shows ever. Teatro Diana was the name of the place. Nice and cozy super perfect for this!
Primus opened up for Tool in concert, 2016. And was an amazing show...
This is my favorite song by them
I seen primus live in Milwaukee and they sound exactly like the their recordings
Keep the Primus coming and keep slappin da bass, mon!
Moshed to Primus in the lawn at a Lalapolooza 93. Love some Primus. But now I'm old. If you did dig this, get to Vegas and see Cirque de Solei - Mystere. It's the most recently thing I recall seeing that gave me this kinda vibe. No guarantees but it might be a life experience for you.
As others have said, this was one take. They had practiced for a couple of days and filmed it. You can see at the end, Les and the others look like they are preparing to do it again. As far as I know, they only shot it that one time.
One of my favorite songs by them. That and the air is getting slippery. You should check that one out too. Very creative and awesome. Love the content keep it up
my favorite primus song and video
Hey polo. I appreciate how you help me see my favorite stuff for the first time again. Especially since I'm not very musically educated. It's nice to hear someone put words to things I'm unable to describe. The Bass in this video makes me want to see your reaction to the 2 man group, 2cellos. Especially their thunderstruck cover.
"How can you not like this?!" You're completely correct. I seen them live once in Pittsburgh, PA on their Anti-Pop Tour and it still holds the #1 spot for best band I've seen live.
I highly recommend going to see Primus live. My older brother used to always play Primus for me when I was younger and I thought it was weird as shit and didn't like it too much. Then he took me to the Desaturating Seven tour. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I've loved Primus ever since
Your hitting all my favorites this band started around the same time as tool toured together. Maynard does guest appearances with Primus and RATM. All similar funky metal actually.
Absolutely love your taste 😋 😍
I saw Tool in San Diego and Primus opened up for them... It was so badass
I had heard a couple of Primus songs before, but I'm glad to say I discovered your channel AND re-discovered Primus thanks to you. Awesome content!
I think you'd really like Over the Electric Grapevine by Primus as well as the live version of Tommy the Cat from Bonnaroo 2011!
Primus: "The greatest kind of weird there is." That's a friggin' t-shirt right there.
Les Claypool is legend. He created his own instrument called the Wham-O which he plays often when touring. You should check it out
Whamola*
Beyond Creation - Omnipresent Perception
Primus is a rabbit hole enjoy!
Everyone can sound alike, but real creativity is more fulfilling
we used to see Les with Primus or Sausage, for like $18.50 a night with Helmet, Henry Rollins, Tool, the Breeders - those were the good old days!!
They were going to be Primate, but there was already a band with that name, so they settled on Primus, which is latin for Primate
Les is still out there doing his thing!
Primus is balls out! Their first album was a live album and it's pure fire. Ler is the guitarist. Behind the bass he gets lost because of the style but he's a mastermind.
The album is Suck On This. Pick any song from that album and you'll be blown away.
Love your appreciation and ❤for the obscure ! Southbound Pakaderm
When I saw them play this live, that stand up bass was making my guts vibrate. It was amazing.
I saw them on this tour back in the day! IT WAS MIND-BLOWING! Pork soda is maybe my favorite album
This video was done in one continuous shot it’s really cool you are not supposed to look at the pig but what is behind him even though he looks at you the whole time
I actually saw you, almost evolve, listening to this one. I knew from your previous reactions to Primus that you liked them but this was then one where I saw you falling in love 🙂. That video wouldn’t be out of place being played on a loop in a modern art gallery.
"This is still weird, too, in sort of a way for me." -- Dude, I've listened to these guys for 30 years and this song has never stopped being weird!
Awesome,! I have seen them live, two girls were at the show both in one large T shirt that said Primus sucks on it.Had a big laugh! Les Claypool on bass. In concert amazing. South bound pacaderm the next song you should review, My name is mud another song to review.
2 other bands Les Claypool is in are Oysterhead and Frog Brigade. Oysterhead is more conventional. Both are phenominal. Id reccomend the song Cosmic Highway by Frog Brigade, either on the channel or off.
I've been listening to Primus since the early 90s. I love their quirkiness
Primus and TOOL are good friends. Sometimes they will tour together. Hopefully, you can see them live together.
You need to holler at a one-off Les Claypool did with his high school band mates called Sausage: Riddles Are Abound Tonight. Think Primus but a lot more jazzy and abstract. A slew of the tracks were written in the late 1980s even though this one-off came out in like 1993-1994 (IIRC).
Mr. Krinkle Rules! 🤘👿🤘
Mr Krinkle kicks ass
Ahahaha not a typical primus song? LoL this is quintessential primus. I've only watched 30 seconds of this review and I'm already laughing 😁
all shot in one take with family and freinds in video
They were at ozzfest in New England 7 bands deep in a 14 band day jam and they came out barefoot and a dude with a jug, who played the chit out of it. I knew 1 song but was BLOWN away after their set. INSANE TALENT. BEASTY BOYS plse, 3 guys and a mc is insane good or intergalactic. Both videos are awesome also.
Primus and tool and Mr bungle gods of odd sounds
Pork Soda's my favorite album but Wynona's beaver is the best song imho. They have a very niche sound but they're amazing!
I would recommend Sa'eed by Infected Mushroom. Same state of mind, you'd love it.
How could you not like this? Exactly, I left a like.
On the other hand, we live in an age when opinion's offend others. What you think and feel should not be considered a personal attack on my core beliefs and values. Express your dislike like you're proud of your own thoughts.
Give us some Lacquer Head by Primus, POLO!
Southbound Pachaderm 1✌
Like the reaction videos keep em coming
From what I've heard, back in the days when Mtv played music videos Mr Krinkle was only shown 3 times until the Nazis in charge decided the video to be overly graphic and bard it from their channel. I do love everything Les Claypool has had a hand musically.
Seen them live a while ago in the early 2000s it was a great show. Primus opened for Primus.
Def check out all primus all there work is different kind of Grove
Should definitely check out the Primus with Buckethead. Only one of the most incredible guitarist on the planet with the best bass player on the planet
I wouldn't be surprised at anything Les Claypool does with a bass.
0:53 appropriate response
If you love primus and Les claypools riffs listen to the toys go winding down
Les can play the large and small mouth bass as well. Even sea bass!
Over the fall's is another good primus jam
Polo innocently mistakenly ysays “bass”, and I’m imagining Les playing a giant base that looks like a bass fish 🤣
thanks for reminding me of this. given the notes in Les's bassline, and your name, prompts me to ask, are you familiar with the early 20th century classical piece "Mars" by Gustav Holst? I think you might dig it.
Groundhogs Day from their Frizzle Fry album should be next
Yes, this video was done completely without cuts. Fun fact: Mtv banned Lacquer Head because they thought the song promoted drug use ... when in fact it was doing just the opposite. Primus has always been a misunderstood band.
Keep going with the primus videos I love them
Fish on
I've seen Primus live more than any other band and I have seen so many of Les Claypool's side projects as well. The last time I saw Primus they were opening for Tool. Primus is not usually an opening band. Also Tim Alexander (Primus's drummer) has filled in for Danny Carey in Tool when he was sick.
You have it the wrong way around. Danny Carey filled in for Tim Alexander after he had a heart attack.
@@waynesmith4432 I actually thought they had both filled in for one another on different occasions but I looked it up and I was in fact wrong. Sorry about that. Tim has never filled in for Danny. But I personally think they have very similar styles. Not too many people bring up Tim Alexander when talking about incredible drummers but I think he is an incredible drummer and extremely underrated. I think Primus and Tool have a similar style in sound when it comes to their music (not vocally obviously). At least it sounds to me like I can hear the influence of both bands in each other's music. Primus is one of the most dynamic and talentd three piece bands to ever play professionally. Most people just talk about Claypool's bass skills but everyone in that band is equally talented in my opinion.
