Phil’s one of the GOATs. Takes any lineup of musicians from a 6 out of 10 to a solid 9 in his prime. Just tragic that he didn’t take care of himself. Ironically, it’s his love of music and his desire not to let anyone down that ruined him. The one and only reason Phil didn’t get his back surgery when he needed it was that most of the Far Beyond Driven tour would’ve ended up getting cancelled for the recovery period. That could’ve spelled the end of Pantera right there. The truth is, Phil was Pantera. He took them out of the horrible glam era to what we all know them for. Go listen to Rebel Meets Rebel if you think Pantera would’ve been fine without Phil and you’ll see...

"Next song is about having absolutely no will or desire to say no to dope, at all" Classic Phil banter

His voice was so damn good during the mid 90s. Thats what makes NOLA and the "Trendkill" album so amazing, because he could hit every note like a beast and sing.

Down was seriously ahead of their time. As far as Pantera goes. Phil is just as essential as the rest of them. Without the brothers and Rex, Phil would have never had the hardest hitting band in history . I’m not taking anything away from Phil and his influence. But to say Phil was Pantera is a little bit ignorant imo.

I'm sure alot of people will agree but there's so many videos of Phil performing where he's obviously loaded or high on that shit but he fuckin kicks ass on stage and then there's several videos where I feel second hand embarrassment for how loaded he was. really glad he's sober these days and turned it around for good

  • @jerbele

Imagine if they played in SF now lol ☠️

  • @markpate9519

That saint vitus cover of ice monkeys is fuckin bad ass

  • @justinxxiii7035

Idk if it’s my playback or what, but does the video look like it’s about 7-10% too fast? The songs sound fast, but the head-banging and stage antics looks like a silent movie from the 1920’s.

What a dynamic band they were at that time... Every bit as captivating as Pantera. The first time I saw Down was in 2007 but I would fucking kill to have been at this show or any Down show of this era for that matter!

Thank you sooo much, to whom ever recorded this. Incredible footage, for it's time. I was fortunate enough to catch 'em on this tour, in Shreveport. At what was, then called, Daz Warehouse. I was just a kid, but it was somewhat of a life changer, fo me. To this day, one of the most incredible shows I have ever been to. The energy was indescribable. A killer local band called, Ceed, opened the show. For those of us that lived there, it was a much needed, sorta consolation, after getting fucked out of seeing Pantera (stupid shit with the fire marshall, led to the, basically, forced cancellation) & mother fuckers were so enraged, that there was a small scale riot, outside the Hirsch Memorial Colosseum. It even made the MTV news. For anyone that remembers that era of MTV, when they'd spin through a bunch of clips, as Dave Ellefson's bass line (Peace Sells) played through..theres a quick shot of someone punching a cop horse in the neck...that was from that night. Sorry for the extremely long comment, but this shit has all sorts of nostalgia for me. Absolutely unforgettable night. If I remember right, they only did like 13 shows on this tour & I feel like they did the Shreveport date, at least partly, to make up for us getting fucked outta Pantera. Either way, it was pure fucking magic.
