How to Make Beer Box, Shoebox & Soda Carton Cowboy Hats 🤠

- Use my downloadable template to make a cowboy hat out of almost any carton, poster or shoe box. After receiving several requests for me to make a video on all different kinds of beverages I decided the best thing to do is to make a template that you can transfer onto any 12 pack, 18 pack or 30 pack carton. I even use the template to make cowboy hats out of some vans shoeboxes and a campaign sign!
Download the template: bit.ly/cowboy_...
Materials Needed:
3 pieces of cardboard carton material (12, 18 or 30 pack)
Elastic sports headband (optional)
Spray adhesive
Hot glue gun
Utility knife
Ruler
Pencil
Craft paper
(3+) Beers (optional but highly recommended)
A special thanks to Eric at GafferPower for hooking me up with a variety pack of gaff tape.
If you haven't seen @KamuiCosplay 's costumes yet you need to check them out!
Thank you and glad I have found your video need hat done for my son for school this coming Friday dress as your favorite character and he want to dress as a cowboy. Thank you for posting this over 2 years ago for those like me that still need it and enjoy crafts. Thank you for sharing template as well. Off to crafting I go.😊
I'm gonna try to make 1 of these when I get the chance to use a printer and I had a cool idea you could use old clothes or old pillow cases as the felt to make your hat even more costomizable
Thank you so much!! I work at McDonald’s and they decided to not tell us about the Wild West theme we’re doing tomorrow until 11:30 this morning, and cause I’m a student I didn’t see it until much later in the day, no costumes in my area so this hat is the next best thing! :)
Cool
Thanks for sharing.. it helps a lot.. i will use this cowboys hat as a costume in a dance competition..
Super nice! I’m trying to do a woody costume for our church Halloween party tonight and the hat is the trickiest part
Just use plain cardboard and don’t forget the thin rope around the brim!
Thank you for the help I’m going to take your design and turn it in to a chocolate box for valentines
Thank You so MUCH for the template! I just got done watching your 1st cowboy hat video and was thinking of how to make a template for DP and DEW. Then your next came on and I'm super excited! Ran straight to my computer and printed it off!
Nice! Send me pics of the finished hats and I’ll add them to my gallery!

Looks allot like prosser's style of hats.
I’m going to try this once I get the time to print off the template!
What kind of carton are you thinking?
Thanx for the template!
I’m going to make one out of golf ball boxes!
Awesome idea! I think I just saw the video on Facebook. Turned out great!
this worked really well with everyday cardboard surprisingly! Just took some extra bends xb
but this tutorial is AWESOME!! Helped a lot with the cosplay I'm working on for my friend :3
💪
This is so cool.....I have to try one soon!! I love it!!! Thanks for the template too!!!
This is great. Gonna try this aoon as i wanted something while im working concerts at soldier field
twisted tea hat coming to a town near you soon.
Love it,
Tomorrow is my sister's 18th birthday and she's making have dinner at Texas roadhouse. I jokingly said I'd make her a cowgirl hat. She took me seriously and said "as long as it's pink". So imma give this a try so she has a pink cowgirl hat.
Awesome….er rather….yee haw!
So when you're making the "marks" on the crown of the hat...you went from cutting the white paper in half to matching it up to the hat and the marks that you're transferring just appeared on the white paper. What is the measurement for those marks to make the tabs. Also, when you're cutting the templates for the brim, you also cut the inner hole to slip the crown through. How do you get that inner circle measurement?
Hi Sarah, great questions. The marks on the slip of paper for around the hat are about an inch apart, the distance between them doesn't have to be precise but they should try to be level with eachother. The downloadable template also includes the hole cutouts. I think when I made this video I got the idea to include those as well. bit.ly/cowboy_hat_
@@DIWHYDOTLIFE Thanks so much for your reply!
Ame este tutorial le haré una fiesta a mi bebé con temática vaquera y daré sombreros a mis invitados 💕👌este tutorial me quedo perfecto 🤗mil gracias
I love it 💃🏾💃🏾❤️❤️
Thank you. The ir fabulous
Thank you I just downloaded the template
Awesome, send pics to my gmail address diwhydotlife@ and I’ll add them to my fan gallery.
Thanks Bro!
I'm gonna try to make this out if multiple 12 pack boxes of Sam's cola or other large food boxes lol. Protein drink cowboy hat anyone? 😆
This is genius!!
Thanks!
Very creative!
Highly recommend not using too much glue, only a little to hold certain things, and then use packing tape for the rest. Hot glue made my hat way too stiff
You are amazing 🤩
Thanks for watching!
😲😯👍 thanks so mucho!
What about a visor template ?
Seems doable, let me play with that…
Just don't use a 12 pack coors. I had to make a sheet of card stock as a template, then glue it on to the 2. Afer run it in my vinyl wrap after that sew it.
I never comment/like videos (even if I have feedback or actually “like” the video). I’m commenting and “liking” your video because you said “shit-kick that like button”. 😂 Awesome! \m/.>
Lol your comment made my day! 🤠
Have you tried with something like a crown royal box?
Nope but @headstronghats made one using the velvet bag! instagram.com/p/CerVrA2PMks/?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==
Have you ever made one for a 7yo boy. How much should I reduce the pattern? maybe 40%? Next week is Wild West dress up day would love to surprise him with a Mountain Dew hat.
I would say 60% 7yo noggin is larger than you think.
Hey is there anyway to get measurements I don’t have a printer and want to use the template?
Yep, my first beer box cowboy hat was done from measurements: ruclips.net/video/Nr89hI9ttmw/видео.htmlsi=EbV3XUrwL9RcsWy4
what about a six pack white claw box
Six packs are too small, you’ll need to get 3 12-packs. Cheers!
@@DIWHYDOTLIFE Actually I managed to one out of the boxes!
Really? Cool! I need to see pics of that.
@@DIWHYDOTLIFE can I make it out of a 15 pack?
❤❤
👍
i have a 24 pack of twisted tea. do i need multiple cases to make it or is the one enough? i don’t mind getting more cases it gives me a reason to drink😎
It depends if you want the underside of the brim to be nice and not cardboard. I’d get another 24.👍
Try not to get too twisted tho!🤣
@@DIWHYDOTLIFE i made it and it turned out terrible 🙂 i must retry
The good news is you get better at it. The good news is you’re going to have to throw a party to get through all that TT. The good news is you’ll have the coolest party hat! 🤠
@@DIWHYDOTLIFE you’re so right. it’s the shaping part that kinda looks bad but 🤷🏼♀️
I see that you cut the middel part our of the brim fast forward how do you know the right size.
The downloadable template has 3 different sizes. Pick the one that’s closest to the size of the bucket you made.
@@DIWHYDOTLIFE okay thanks, looks really easy a nice to make! That is for sharing!
You lost me with the scrap paper ? It already had marks on it ??
The dots are for equal spacing for marking the bucket. It’s not important that they are perfectly spaced, just every inch or so. It’s more important that the marks are level going around the bucket.
Ok thanks for the replies - I thought about using a visor I have as a template & see how it comes out
It's not easy when you have a six pack box😥
Well, in my case I'm gonna use 4
Yeah not much to work with. You’ll have to get creative and piece them together
@DIWHYDOTLIFE that's what I'm trying to do. I think it'll work out eventually though 👍
Y si no tenemos impresora como podemos dibujar los patrones?
In this video I make a hat with measurements: ruclips.net/video/Nr89hI9ttmw/видео.html The template just makes it a little easier and faster.
I have a 24 pack do I need to packs to get the third piece of cardboard?
For a hat with a double-sided brim you’ll need 3 cartons, 18 or 24 packs usually work. For a single-sided brim 2 cartons will suffice.
would modge podge be good for this craft as well??
You mean to help preserve and protect the hat? Sure, that would help.
Can I make it out of a 15 pack
It’s possible, you may just have to have a smaller brim. I made a fedora out of 12-pack boxes.
Is that 8.5 x11 or legal ?
It’s standard letter size 8.5” x 11”
How do you make the hat with a 12 pack box? What’s different?
You might be able to make a small hat with two 12 packs but if you only have one just open one end and place on head.
@@DIWHYDOTLIFE Sorry I didn’t clarify I’ve got 17 boxes of what I want to make the hat out of, so plenty of extra. You mentioned in the video that you could actually make the hat with a 12 pack box. I already printed the template and it doesn’t seem to fit. Do I just go on and use the template and just make a smaller version or is there a different way to go about it?
Ah ok. Yeah the 12 pack boxes are a touch small. I made a fedora style hat out of a few 12 pack boxes. But to make the full cowboy hat you’ll need 18 packs. You could possibly combine some 12 packs together to make a larger piece. Use a big sheet of craft paper and glue four 12 packs together?
I hate cattleman crease so I made one with telescope crease
Nice! Send me a pic.
You can’t make it outta 12 packs. Just tried it lol
12 packs limit your brim size and will give you a smaller fedora style. You’ll need at least one 18 pack to make a full size brim. Thanks for the view and comment!
I'm trying it by using a 12 pack and a 6 pack and so far it is working by combining the boxes using clear packing tape on both sides to hold the different pieces together. And then for the brim I am combining the first layer of boxes together vertically and the the second layer together horizontally to help support it. So far so good!
Btw my first one will be Pepsi
Very cool! Send me pics if you want to get added to my fan gallery.
No problem
where do i download it ?
Hi Lisa, the link is in the video description. Hit the down arrow in the upper right under the video. YT is making the description difficult to see these days...
On desktop you have to click "Show More".
That’s great if you can’t afford a Real one
