When your daughter volunteered to help out in the Langar it showed how well she is brought up! In sikh culture helping in the Langar is one of the nicest things one can do.
@@zerocarbon6787 bruh!!! That's why india is starving 😂😂. I have only seen sikhs give free food but never seen a "buddist jain hindu aka indian culture" do it. Stop lying. haha

Well done, Jonathan, how you manage to get your family through such a crowd, carrying Forest, commenting on what you see and film at the same time. Very interesting video! Thank you.
Accepting with both the palms open and joined together, is a sign of humble acceptance in Indian culture, from someone whom one considers a 'Giver'. Here the volunteer is serving food to you on behalf of the almighty, as no pilgrim is entitled to a service as such. Since the roti/bread is considered as a staple, it is treated as a Prasad from the Almighty, and hence it is asked to be accepted with open palms. It is a gentle reminder to everyone who partakes the langar that all of us are equal and also we are beggars in the court of the Almighty/God/Nature/Universe and that every aspect of our survival, may it be the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, the cotton we wear etc. etc. , is provided to us only by the grace of mother nature. Essentially it's a lesson in humility to curb one's false sense of Ego.
@@BagsPackedFamily You are a very kind and humble person and so is your family. There are a lot of unsaid and even unexplained traditions in the Indian culture that even Indians at times are unaware of, so one cannot expect foreign tourists or new visitors to be aware of such intricacies. But by asking such questions, a seeker opens himself to a new realm of understanding. And that's the real essence of any pilgrimage. Also, be rest assured that a seeker like yourself cannot offend anyone. Happy travels and take care.

It was amazing. We always have to debate about whether to drink water or to go thirsty 😂 We probably just need to always carry water bottles. We didn’t know it would be so crowded, what a huge surprise.
The water is safe as they have an RO plant inside the premises where they fill the water from. You should've got in touch with a local who could've guided you to all the places in Amritsar and also explained the history behind the important spots in the Golden Temple. Most people don't know about the Bungas or caves in yhe golden temple but they have a historical significance and worth seei6 once. You gotta accept the roti with both hands cause it shows that you're being respectful to the food you're being served and the server (volunteer) serving the food.
I haven't visited the Golden Temple, but I assume when they asked to hold two hands for the roti- bread, it is to likely signify as a respectful way of receiving the prasad- food offering from God. That's how in Hindi temples too people usually take the usual sweet and or fruit Prasad offerings. I am happy to see this video and live vicariously through your family's experience. Quite cool how you all enjoyed the kulcha meal before entering the Golden temple. The dessert was likely boondi laddo. Made with fried besan (chickpea flour) that is soaked in sugar syrup and also some ghee is used to make the laddoo, sometimes some spice or nuts might be there in it too. Was lovely seeing her volunteer and also loved seeing the pics of the kids form your last visit.
I hope and wish you're safe and happy trip in Amritsar and I understand the population is very high in India however everyone's manage and I think you must have managed too. My Lots of LOVE from United States Military Officer. Chardikala (Eternal Optimism)
