I'm almost tempted to buy a hot air station and try to reball the chipset. Worst case scenario, I end up changing the board for $60
No it was a quick and sudden death. But those also sound like symptoms of deadboot. I don't quite understand how changing the board would be a worst case scenario, it'd be the first thing I'd recommend. Unless you mean there are files on your phone you greatly value.

I bought mines here: aliexpress.com/item/1005004849546727.html I think you can't go wrong with most of the boards on Aliexpress. Just avoid the cheap listings when buying screen replacements, some are counterfeit.
