They were like a cross between Brit pop and The Doors - quite unique and very musical. I like how they always seemed very true to the indie ideal, no selling out to the rock gods here!
I saw the IC at an old cinema in Newport Pagnell, 1988 ish. There was only about 15 people there and the floor sloped! They played their hearts out and we were dancing away even though we didn't really know any of the tunes. It really was a magic (carpet) gig.
About 10 years ago Tom Hingley played in a tiny bar on the site of that old cinema...but I never knew they'd played there before until I saw your comment!
I'm having a flashback to my youth😄 I had a period where I loved them, I saw them in Melbourne when I was a kid (16 maybe?) I can hardly remember it though, damn it!!
READING FESTIVAL 1990 Saturday night main stage Late and great John Peel MC Inspirals headlined marching band on stage for "She comes in the fall" golden age of INDIE does it get any better 😎👍.
My first live gig was IC at Wolverhampton Civic Hall in 1991/92. Great days 😎 I'll be seeing them again with my teenged daughter in Warrington next year. Circle of life, eh?
1 of Manchesters greatest underrated bands ever listen to the album cool as / rare as 1 of the best albums ever up there with joy division/ buzzcocks/ sex pistols and the jam
In indie top top two are 1) negativeness: the smiths 2) positiveness: oasis Se pistals are punk thats a different thing. The rest comes after but still great nobodys denies. I love inspiral carpets for some tunes
Sure the smiths are very unique and are difficult to categorize and oasis are some times also pop or rock. But the origins and general sound is still indie..it was just so good that it was main stream. That good
I used to have this song taped from a John Peel show about a year before it was released. I remember Simon Bates plugging them as the Inspirational Carpets.
Great song. Great band. I had this song on a TDK D90 recorded from a John Peel session back in the day. I heard a Fontaines song on 6 Music made me think of this song. Hadn't listened to it in AGES so glad I found it
Fabulous tune by a superb band....I saw the carpets 11 times all in and they knew how to put on a live gig !! Edinburgh LaBelle Angelle in 1994 and Sheffield Leadmill too as Sheffield was BBC radio #SoundCity for that year - gig was with #Lemonheads the US band fronted by #EvanDando and also supported by #Manchester band #MollyHalfHead who I remember being freaking awesome....then Insptals at Glasgow Barrowlands absolutely rocked the place... Great times #SweetMemoriesOfYou #Madchester #MrWilxRIP #HaddingtonPosse
I saw the Carpets once in the early 80s in a pub (possibly the Waggon & Horses) on Manchester Road, Oldham and they were terrible. Fortunately, they got better and went on to create this excellent song.
So glad I was in Madchester when it kicked off!❤ The Hacienda, The Boardwalk, Sankey’s Soap, The Paradise Factory, Dry Bar - Jack/Richard Creme in Deansgate for you garments...........Proper!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I saw them 2x (91,? )both at the Limelight: in NYC. I seem to remember watching a crazy mosh pit , from the balcony.I hope they come back ! They are not mentioned, as being a "notable performer" in wicked media.

So underestimated. Remember watching live SECC around 1990, awesome.

Agree 100%, all counts. Top band. I'd add Charlatans and Kinks, though.

No epilepsy warning required 😂😂. My eyesight flickered like this until Wednesday after a weekend clubbing. Great tune
Clubbing? What have the seals done to you?
Brilliant band👊👊
Madchester classic rock tune
The voice!
Underrated band

How is it possible that this has not way much more views?
this was posted in 2019
Not really one of their big singles, most views I've seen in a quick glance is about 86k. And I only got here from some old rerun of Top of the Pops.
The old video for this had around 500k views
too much def and blind people !!!
Best band ever in my opinion!!!!!!
A sound of the the greatest mate's is getting there and love it people

One of my favourite tunes of the band. - And maybe the best live band of all the 'Manchester; lot.
Madchaster*, as this song clearly shows haha
Amazing song
Cool tune classic noel must have some great stories and all of inspirals
There's a load of NG/Inspirals stories out there. A few interviews with Clint Boon and an episode of Storytime With Boon about Noel's time with them.
The military style sticking part is... RL R_RL RLRL R_ and then a 5 stroke roll that circles back to the 1. All with four on the floor kick drum.
Kenn ich seit ca 30 Jahren! Immer wieder gut 👍
The best band to come out of Greater Manchester 👍
What about oasis
don’t forget The Smiths, The Stone Roses, and Happy Mondays
We should stop with this best blabla band...what manchester has to offer
...wow i can only bow down as a german from hamburg

the fall is leagues above other manchester bands
Naw the Smiths are above anyone else

Purealternative FM Through the night
Arguably my favourite ever band.
Along with Pixies
Took years before I noticed the similarity of the outro on this track and Pixies’ Debaser
I’m picky about my music, but many britpop groups are just incredible... So artistic and different.
IC aren't Britpop
@@bobafetting6373 Well, I guess they are technically pre-Britpop; they and the Stone Roses laid the foundation to Britpop
brilliant song. you guys know noel gallagher was a roadie with them when noel was a teenager. what an education.
Yes. Anyone who follows the Carpets knows this. NG renamed his band (Rain) after a Carpets gig at the Swindon Oasis
The explosión in The birth .. The hand of God And The birth like all comes together.
Ricordo degli anni 90
Super
@lasquinzia
Saw them at Sheffield Poly or Uni (??) and Reading '90. 33 years ago.......what happened to the time? Brilliant gigs and times.
0:09 Boris Johnson 😂
Is this song about Brix E Smith?
Now that is funny 🤣
Any idea who the Drum Majorette is?
Nope but.....they brought these same drummers out at their concert at G Mex, it's on RUclips.
I think the drummers are the haverettes
I thought it was Howard Jones.
Boris Johnson
3:30 headphones “Okay” 💕
Bobby6ix’s favorite group!
Fucking who
What’s the name of the singer on this song/album because apparently this band had 2 different singers
Tom Hingley
Grew up with these charlatans happy Monday’s the indie period ✌🏼🥴
Inno yea
!!!
Parful
Aparr from the haircuts I love this stuff
By "she", are they referring to Queen Elizabeth the Second?
Is the barber also the local gardener?
Noela gallagher seems to.have got his revolver ideas from fans of this.
Simply "The Smiths" on LSD.
On amph
Nothing at all like The Smith's 😂
Lo único comun que tienen es que son de Manchester. Mas Respeto con The Smiths.
Pretty much the polar opposite of the Smiths in every respect ..
Yer arse
Quality street anyone?
My dad like Insprial Carpets
met tom a few years ago in a pub in the welsh valleys talked for over an hour lovely bloke if you ever meet him ffs dont mention politics 😅
It a mix
Don’t know if the bass player was relived or pissed off that he wasn’t able to join in with the stupid haircut thing ! Great song though ! 💪
Best comment 😊
Most under rated band ever, but oasis are over rated, odr rather have teeth pulled, style over substance,so I won't ever speak to an oasis fan, indpirals are original msn
Oasis haters are so dramatic and weird.
DEMONIC
There's nowhere near enough farfisa and hammond in popular music these days. Nowhere near
Boon army
