hi i grew up in brechin from 1957 to 1965, i love to go back and visit. does anyone remember the time i sat and had my portrait painted in the city hall,my art teacher at high school mr condie arranged for a visiting artist to demonstrate portrait painting, and i was chosen out of the whole of the high school to be the model. i wonder where that painting is now ????? jean brown

I can't understand why you didn't linger longer at the Round Tower. There are only two remaining in Scotland. This and one in Abernethy, Fife. 1000 years ago Brechin was an important Culdee ecclesiastic site.

Brechin is an idyllic place.
It has the baseline architecture of its former industrial period so most of the core is beautiful stone buildings.
Being only 20 miles from the coast it is also very temperate given that its further north than Moscow.
If you can survive the short dark days of winter, with the sun permanently low on the horizon, then the payoff is the five months of beautiful, verdant, Scandinavian summer.
Having a population of under eight thousand people also means that everyone knows EVERYONE. This means that crime is mostly just limited to bike thefts and the sort of alcohol related violence that occur anywhere. The worst "crime" I have witnessed first hand when visiting is underage teenagers sitting outside the shop trying to persuade people to buy them vapes.
Not booze I would note .... but vapes.
The town is suffering a bit because of the combination of the Airforce base at Edzell being shut down (costing over a thousand jobs) and the central Angus Council in Forfar trying to "choke-off" Brechin by cutting funding.
All this being said, Brechin is just about as perfect a place to live unless your job requires you to be somewhere else.
