As someone who's a bit similar to Johnny, his silence when someone teases him is his mind calculating whether to snap back or act in a way it won't sound aggressive and make the situation awkward so finding the ways to give a response in a funny way but not too funny so that he can put people in their place. It's a long thought process and before executing it, people become scared lol.

Johnny may be intimidating but Mark has the power of "the baby". Everyone has a huge soft spot for him, especially Johnny, so he's able to exploit that when he feels like it (even if he doesn't entirely realise he has that power lol).
