Today, I'm getting back surgery to remove a large tumor near my tailbone. It'll be a difficult procedure as the tumor is inside the spinal column and is surrounded by many nerves. Surgeons will have to make it through multiple bones to get in there and remove as much of it as possible. We then have to wait for biopsy results to figure out how to handle all the remaining tumors (I have a total of eight in my spine). It is looking most like I'll be needing radiation therapy as well as chemotherapy.
They believe what I have is something called Myxopapillary Ependymoma (MEPN). From what I'm researching online, it seems about one in a million people get this. It seems to be growing from the central nervous system out of the spinal cord rather than the brain, in my case.
Over the last 18 months or longer, I've been experiencing an incredible amount of pain in my tailbone, hamstrings, calve muscles, lower back, and gluteus muscles. It is particularly painful when trying to do physical activity such as jumping, running, jogging, and even walking. It feels like a knife is being stabbed up into my tailbone area. So, it's been pretty painful filming my RUclips videos for a while now. This is why I haven't been doing as many martial arts and other fun and crazy physical challenges lately. Hopefully, after this surgery I'll be able to get back to normal life and doing all the fun things I used to do.
Thanks to all of you who have been super supportive and positive throughout this. I really appreciate it. Also, thank you to everybody at Keck Medicine at USC in Los Angeles, CA. Every single person I spent time with, surgeons, nurses, physical therapists, doctors, MRI technicians, etc... everybody was super positive and just had a really good attitude despite having a very difficult job.

I feel like crying. My dad broke his back and had surgery and the doctor said it was a miracle that he is walking and that other people that had broke their backs came paralyzed from the neck down but he lucky that he is walking and doing better, that was like 5 years ago

Aww. My daughter is 9 and she showed me both videos right when they were posted and its so sad! I legit teared up listening to Vy. Its sad to see two great ppl going threw something so traumatic. That surgery alone is so risky and the docs bedside manner was awful.. i feel bad for them 😣 Theyre such great role models too!

For me who has had 3 surgeries cause of my broken wrist i know its painful and spent days in the hospital and my family would come visit me none stop and my mother stayed in the hospital with me the whole time and I appreciate my whole family who stayed with me and i hope u get through it and i hope u recover ❤

chad is very brave. when the removed the tumors, he didnt even flinch. he never cried or complained. that shows how brave and strong he is. he never gives up and always finds ways to make us laugh. he also brought tears to many people, and i am glad he is okay. we never even knew that he was in pain for the past 2 or 3 years. i am glad hes been doing well, so i came back to this video to bring up my feelings. i am so happy to see the support his fans have been sharing. it breaks my heart to see vy cry 😅 so again, i am glad chad is okay.

I hope you get well soon I had major spine surgery it was Spinal fusion surgery for Scoliosis just over three months ago and the recovery takes 6 months so almost there! It felt like the recovery was going to take forever cuz the first two weeks after surgery was the longest and most painful weeks of my life but after that in now moving around and pretty much going back to normal however I still have a lot of restrictions like Bending, twisting, lifting etc. Hope you get well soon Chad 💕

Having 4 back procedures (level 3 fusion, enter body fusion plus hardware removal) I can tell you the recovery process is long.. the surgery is painful to say the least. Kudos to you and sharing this.. most people don’t know the pain people live with back problems. I can surly tell you that this man is already relieved. Pay attention to your back, or you may wind up in surgery..
When I was younger ,I had a back surgery and it was trying to help it connect kind of to my legs . I got out the hospital 1/2 months early! It was when I was 6!
