I got this plugin, and at first I was a little afraid, but in this tutorial I saw the power of playbeat, really amazing I'm using it and amazed at the possibilities, thanks in advance for the valuable tips
Thanks so much for this! I also have recently purchased this but wasn’t quite getting the results I’d hoped for. This focused mini-tutorial has been helpful and inspiring. Cheers!
I've watched this video a few times and each time I come to the same conclusion...I can't pick a favorite feature! But I can say this...The Random Fill is extra dope and unexpected!!! thanks for your time and desire to help us! 😉🤩😎
Playbeat is a fantastic plug in and and an endless source of inspiration but for me it still lacks one crucial function: timing randomisation i.e. the ability to push the feel behind or ahead of the beat like a real percussionist
Yes, you have to go in later after bouncing the audio and slide each audio recording, for example if you want relaxed snares you slide that audio file later in time. It should be easy to implement. Also, the way XO (and Reason DAW if I'm not mistaken) do this is cool - sort of a groove quantize on a per lane basis, with options of either 8th or 16th also on a per lane basis, plus the ability to slide later or earlier relative to other lanes.
When you drag the midi file onto a track and want to play the midi file with the playbeat 3 preset sounds it also triggers the pattern to play, so you're playing two things at once. Very frustrating.
I’m just noticing there are drum machine apps that play samples (like Playbeat 3 or Patterning 2) versus drum synths that create synthetic drum sounds. I haven’t come across 1 drum machine that does both, which probably makes sense. The latest crop seem to be mostly sample based, whereas there were popular drum synths from 4 years ago and older. DrumComputer by Sugar Bytes comes to mind, however I don’t think it’s AUV3.
Hi Jeff, I love Sonic Charge Microtonic as a drum synth, but the only plugin I know that uses both Synthesis & sample based drums is Rob Papen's Punch 2. I have it, as I have his explorer 7 bundle, though in all honesty I've only used it on a couple of tracks, as by its nature it is more complex than other options, and it lacks the randomisation tools of something like Playbeat...
@@waveform-synths Thanks! It really does come down to which features are valuable to you. There a declining need for drum synth machines and you could easily sample and drum synth then use it in a drum sampler with it's sequencer. I realize there's still a group that love the sounds of drum synths, but personally I prefer to work with samples.
Microtonic with the new Beatspace script is fantastic - you can mix it with a sample based drum machine. UVI Spark 2 has both though. "Spark 2 offers vastly improved sequencing and song modes, a completely overhauled interface, expanded REX support and, most intriguingly, an entirely new modular sound design engine and interface with which to design and process your own sampled or synthesised percussion and instrument noises."
Got the Lite version freebie from Plug-in Boutique. Looks like the main difference is that they removed the Sample Manager capabilities. Can’t load individual sounds to tracks. Presets and packs are still available. There might be other things missing but I haven’t found them, based on comparing what I can do with Lite vs what I’ve seen in tutorials, etc. Actually, discovered a couple of things in this video that weren’t in the documentation, so Lite appears to be at least 3.1
I have a question. If I want to mark some presets to use to train "smart randomization", can I then save that for later, so that when I return to that style I can simply re-load that "trained smart-randomization preset? It would be very useful to do so - and kind of fascinating to try and develop different settings for different personal styles. I think the "list" of presets you mark could be made to save with the 'plugin state', no?
@@theblackgypsy541 Well, there is an export button at the top. Once you click it, a menu shows up with options to drag individual channels or the full beat composition wither in midi or audio.
I purchased the iOS version of this and I don't like it. The colors and GUI/interface are an eye sore!!!!!! I'll stick with Loopcloud Drum. Playbeat has way too much going on visually and features are unorganized. I doubt I'll be using this every day. They did a great job with Riffer, Loopmix nd Chordjam but this one is my least favorite. It doesn't feel musical. I say all this because when you're making music, you should always know what knob does what and when to use it. Everything is scattered all over the place. It's too dark and it's very easy to make a mistake and LOSE EVERYTHING!!!!
My point exactly. I am so glad I bought the cheaper iOS version before making the decision to get it on Mac. This thing is UGLY and it's so easy to forget that you're making music. It's like solving a math equation. How can you enjoy making music with this clunky/unorganized VST/app???
I've got xo it's a different beast ... a different approach, both have their place, but I know which one gets more use for me... everyone's mileage varies...
@@waveform-synths I think it is more or less the same. Creating nice grooves randomly. But the UX, accentuator, sample clustering etc. I missing really too much in Playbeat. But xo is really expensive.
@@ppayne7490 I recently upgraded my 8 track Bitwig to the full version, and was lucky enough with timing to get xo for free ... to be fair, I need to spend more time with xo as I've been too busy learning Bitwig - long time Cubase user & taking a while to adjust! :)
@@waveform-synths Bitwig seems to be nice. I did try all daws for windows some years ago and ended up with Mixcraft pro. I also used cubase, samplitude and logic for a long time in the past. So, have fun and enjoy your new daw instead of testing xo.
I use XO and Loopcloud Drum when I run out of drum pattern ideas. This thing is a total eye sore. All of the dots are the same color. Everything just seems so random besides the drum pattern itself.
The multi step durations feature is fire! The polyrhythms you could make with this thing is crazy. Def wanna try it out!
Thanks
Excellent demo. I've watched the Audiomodern videos on this and some others, but this still provided some great insights. Top notch content.

99% certain it was a tweaked Korg M1 patch

@@cachelesssociety5187 Downloading it now - thx! Do you think this puts Playbeat 3 and some similar drum machine apps out of business? Maybe?
I know this is super old but Mdrummer does both, plain and simple. I use it on everything.
Does Playbeat 3 surpass a lot of the classic, popular older drum machines, like Patterning 2, DrumComputer, FAC Drumkit, etc.?
Great video! I wonder what's the differences between this version and Plugin Boutique's free Lite version?
Good question! If anyone out there has tried the Lite version, perhaps they could post...

You can’t export individual tracks, just one combined track.
how are you using Maschine to control it. Can you make a video of how you incorporate the 2 together?
Hi, I'm not using Maschine - just running inside Cubase...
Playbeat, polyphase or octachron?
It doesn't generate midi output to control other instruments?
yes it does, a little tricky, but welle working, u got to use the IAC midi driver
