Dang good story.
That was some comeuppance!!!God Laughin Still!!
Play I love all the stories been true that's a big plus
That was spectacular 😂 Lovin your book by the way!!
On a different note:
Today was is 54th birthday. My daughter took me to Green Tomato Grill in Mooresburg(a must go to) and then to Pressmen's Home(accidental find) to see and learn the history. Couldn't make it down the road to the cemetery as it was all muddy from the recent rain, but we're going back hopefully next weekend. They claim it's a haunted ghost town that nature is slowly reclaiming.
That would be a great story(not sure if it's in Appalachia) but what a great piece of history for you to tell.
Anyways, it was a terrific birthday surprise and despite the clouds, what a beautiful scenic ride! Took lots of great pictures.
Blessings and good health from The Lakeside of the Smokies 🕉
@@AmericanGal_69 Now That's Just A Beatiful Thing!!Happy BDay From Maine!!

I love stories that tells of how greed sometimes doesn't pan out. That one smart Squire for sure.
That’s right sometimes you reap what you sow
Well that came out of nowhere.😂 I thought you were going to say they struck oil. I love these stories. Thanks JD
Thanks Rusty, researching this story blew me away- as far as I can tell- the last it was ever written about was the 1920s- literally 100 years ago- almost lost to time
thanks for your research & storytelling@@TheAppalachianStoryteller
@@TheAppalachianStorytellerThe work you do is so important. Stories like this can only live on because of people like you. And thanks to the internet, they can spread far and wide. All the way to Norway, where people like me can fall completely in love with captivating stories from bygone times across the pond. Thank you!
I was guessing gold myself.
Me too! I didn't know that could be done with a corpse.
That was another good story. The banker sure got what was coming to him.
He sure did!
An Awesome Story! 💯
Greedy men doing devious deeds,
eventually reap their just rewards.
Truth!
I live in Henderson County. 7th generation to be born here. I have never heard this story. Thanks JD
It's a true story my friend.
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller I don’t doubt that for a minute. I’m sure there are a ton of stories that happened that few people still know. I can trace my family back to this area to sometime in the 1750s
What a treat for this morning I love listening to your stories.
Thank you Bessie

My great great aunt had to be moved from 1 part of the cemetery to another. She had been partially petrified. Causing generational trauma.

I thought that I recognized this story when it first started but I was wrong. Came as a great surprise.
I don’t believe this story has ever been talked about ,at least in print, since the 1920s. I am confident this is the first ever story about it on the internet

Great story, it reminds of the Devil of Scott County Tennessee. Definitely some similarities. Really enjoyed this one.
ive never heard of that story, ill have to look into it!
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller , check with Miranda or Kris at the Historical Scott county jail. They have some actual newspaper articles and pictures hanging on the wall. Very interesting story.
Apparently, Squire was a slick ole fella. Great story as always, brother.
he sure was!

Welcome! So glad to have you here my friend.
@@TheAppalachianStoryteller : Thank you so much!! And God bless you for your kindness and friendliness!🥰🤨❤️🙏
Great Story.
Thank you!
Oh JD this one was a heck of an out of left field tale. The part about going to New Orleans was just priceless! That’ll teach that damn banker. Here here for the Squire! Wonder what it cost him to get two Doctors to state it was a real body? You’ve outdone yourself with this wild tale. Had me laughing so hard I almost peed my pants as I was outside on this rainy cold blustery morning in California. I love your sense of humor with some of yer stories. But love the outlaw ones the best. By the way thanks for recommending your son’s channel it’s amazing. I see the Apple didn’t fall to far from the tree!
Thank you so much Karen it was the type of story that I didn’t want to give too much away in the title. I figured it was better to let the story unfold in front of the unsuspecting listener. Have a blessed day in California my friend.
Heartwarming
Thank you so much. Have a blessed day.
love it from uk granny
Thank you! Greetings from the mountains of East Tennessee

he got em good
I love the stories so much I had to join.I hope it stays this good tyvm
glad you enjoyed this story! Welcome to the channel!
I'm enjoying your stories very much. My only attachment to Appalachia is I love to bring my sports car up from Texas and drive on your twisty mountain roads. I never thought of displaced people being the result of the National Parks. I bet they weren't compensated much, if at all. Probably treated as well as we treated the Native Indians in our quest to expand based on our "Manifest Destiny". Not our finest moment.
Thank you , glad to have you here
What a great story!
Thank you Tammy. I hope you’re having a blessed day.
Justice was served today.
yes indeed!
Wonderful. I love it when the bad guy gets cheated by his own greed. This is the first time I have ever heard this story. My Mother was from Stoneville, NC. I wonder if she knew anything about this. Thank you for another great store that is part of History.
Thank you!
Good morning JD

There is a farmers museum close to where I live with a "petrified giant". It's a great exhibit.
That’s awesome. Where is it at?

Brilliant!

Great story as usual love all the lost history thank you
Thank you Sonia!
HaHaHa J.D. Great story! At first i thought they hit a treasure chest and could pay the debt. Nice to see the clever farmer won in the end. I loved my many trips to Asheville N.C., walking on the swinging bridge in the clouds, seeing grandfather mountain and so much more. Beautiful place❤
I love Asheville too! I was contacted by the Asheville Historical Society last night... They didn't even know about this story and were blown away! Another piece of lost history saved on this channel.
Good for Squire!!
He sure got him good didn’t he?
Awesome content as always! Would there be a possibility of purchasing your book as a PDF/EPub?
Maybe in the future, still working on it
Another great story my friend...going to buy your book...and tee-shirt...Keep e'm coming...
alright! Preciate you Steve!
Awesome story; the Steep Canyon Rangers need to do a ballad on this one! Thank you for keeping history exciting. Much respect, love & hugs. ❤
Thank you so much as far as I can tell the story has never been told in the past 120 years
Good one
Thanks Ted!
Sometimes revenge is sweet. This one’s a version of The Count of Monticrisco. Only set in North Carolina. Great story JD👍
It was sweet revenge!
Awesome!!

Awesome story…

What a great story. I am from California and never hear stories like this and wish someone would do that out here. Thanks 😂😂😂😂
Thanks so much brother appreciate you
Ha ha, I love it when a wealthy man a lawer or a politician gets the shaft. Great story JD
He got em good
Thx. Surprising humor. Relics of saints were bought and sold and most considered fabricated unless evidenced healing miracles. Perhaps even that fake relic blessed their family for taking care of neighbors and a comfort to mourners.
It was interesting, because when I started researching the story, I found that it was actually another event just like this one that it happened two years prior in the same state apparently petrified bodies were all the rage
I love these
thank you!
❤❤❤
Great story Brother, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it brother hope everything’s OK in your neck of the woods
Cool 😎
