      On a different note:
      Today was is 54th birthday. My daughter took me to Green Tomato Grill in Mooresburg(a must go to) and then to Pressmen's Home(accidental find) to see and learn the history. Couldn't make it down the road to the cemetery as it was all muddy from the recent rain, but we're going back hopefully next weekend. They claim it's a haunted ghost town that nature is slowly reclaiming.
      That would be a great story(not sure if it's in Appalachia) but what a great piece of history for you to tell.
      Anyways, it was a terrific birthday surprise and despite the clouds, what a beautiful scenic ride! Took lots of great pictures.

      Thanks Rusty, researching this story blew me away- as far as I can tell- the last it was ever written about was the 1920s- literally 100 years ago- almost lost to time

      @@TheAppalachianStoryteller I don’t doubt that for a minute. I’m sure there are a ton of stories that happened that few people still know. I can trace my family back to this area to sometime in the 1750s

    My great great aunt had to be moved from 1 part of the cemetery to another. She had been partially petrified. Causing generational trauma.

      I don’t believe this story has ever been talked about ,at least in print, since the 1920s. I am confident this is the first ever story about it on the internet

    Great story, it reminds of the Devil of Scott County Tennessee. Definitely some similarities. Really enjoyed this one.

      @@TheAppalachianStoryteller , check with Miranda or Kris at the Historical Scott county jail. They have some actual newspaper articles and pictures hanging on the wall. Very interesting story.

    Oh JD this one was a heck of an out of left field tale. The part about going to New Orleans was just priceless! That’ll teach that damn banker. Here here for the Squire! Wonder what it cost him to get two Doctors to state it was a real body? You’ve outdone yourself with this wild tale. Had me laughing so hard I almost peed my pants as I was outside on this rainy cold blustery morning in California. I love your sense of humor with some of yer stories. But love the outlaw ones the best. By the way thanks for recommending your son’s channel it’s amazing. I see the Apple didn’t fall to far from the tree!

    I'm enjoying your stories very much. My only attachment to Appalachia is I love to bring my sports car up from Texas and drive on your twisty mountain roads. I never thought of displaced people being the result of the National Parks. I bet they weren't compensated much, if at all. Probably treated as well as we treated the Native Indians in our quest to expand based on our "Manifest Destiny". Not our finest moment.

    Wonderful. I love it when the bad guy gets cheated by his own greed. This is the first time I have ever heard this story. My Mother was from Stoneville, NC. I wonder if she knew anything about this. Thank you for another great store that is part of History.

    There is a farmers museum close to where I live with a "petrified giant". It's a great exhibit.

    HaHaHa J.D. Great story! At first i thought they hit a treasure chest and could pay the debt. Nice to see the clever farmer won in the end. I loved my many trips to Asheville N.C., walking on the swinging bridge in the clouds, seeing grandfather mountain and so much more. Beautiful place❤

      I love Asheville too! I was contacted by the Asheville Historical Society last night... They didn't even know about this story and were blown away! Another piece of lost history saved on this channel.

    Sometimes revenge is sweet. This one’s a version of The Count of Monticrisco. Only set in North Carolina. Great story JD👍

    Thx. Surprising humor. Relics of saints were bought and sold and most considered fabricated unless evidenced healing miracles. Perhaps even that fake relic blessed their family for taking care of neighbors and a comfort to mourners.

      It was interesting, because when I started researching the story, I found that it was actually another event just like this one that it happened two years prior in the same state apparently petrified bodies were all the rage
