  • Ahead of Sunday's NFC championship game between the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers, we revisit last summer's wide-ranging conversation between the head coaches of those teams, Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan. They discuss their history working together, the play from a Super Bowl that Kyle wishes he had back, how to coach QBs, and much more. Listen to 'Flying Coach' wherever you get your podcasts.

when Kyle's describing what he looks for in a QB, he's giving a near perfect, point-by-point description of Brock Purdy a year before Brock was even drafted. From his football IQ and decision-making intangibles, all the way down to the low heartrate and stone cold composure in the clutch. It's wild how much Brock fits the image of what Kyle looks for in a player, and how much of Kyle's coaching shines through when Brock gives interviews

Basically, after Mike says "This is unbelievable", Kyle says "Dad, this is Jon Gruden 101... cuz I worked with Gruden back in Tampa" and then goes on to explain how Sean was doing a better impersonation of Jon Gruden himself in that initial interview. Sad that they felt the need to cut it out of the podcast due to what happened to Gruden this season, it's a funny clip. (P.S. I know this because I listened to this exact podcast a few days ago).

Love Kyle Shanahan and what he has brought to the 49ers . I’m so great full as a fan of the 49ers to have a physical dominant team .

Love that kyle was the boss of both mcvay and lafleur. He's basically their mentor/leader of the pack and paved the way for them to get their current jobs. Not to mention he historically has their number in h2h matchups (except for this past nfc championship game) lucky win for the rams lets not talk about that lol

One of my favorite football interviews. Funny how quickly things can change eh? Trey Lance?............ Brock Purdy. Who knew? 🙂🏈 And now one of their super compatriots in Washington, Raheem, is back with the Falcons joining them as a HC again.
