I will never ever forget Laura! I’m from Illinois and moved to Lake Charles in 2009 when I was 8 years old and this is my first hurricane ever. We evacuated to Deridder because a family member of ours offered us a place to stay and that night I went to sleep around 11pm woke up at 2:15AM because the power going off/my fam quit working. Then we went to the living room and that’s when things were really intense! The house was rocking and the wind and rain was really bad, I was absolutely terrified but I maintained composure. It felt as though we were by some rail road tracks!
August 27,2020 the day changed our lives forever.

This is old but, if Dorian is called 185 when 1-min sustained winds are actually 183, then Laura was 155 with 153 being it’s 1-min sustained.

I live in Sugar Land which is southwest from Houston and i boarded up our windows expecting the storm to hit us, boy was I wrong. It was as if Laura trolled Houston and said "not tonight buddy" and went into Texas-Louisiana Border

I see F13 has Laura at 155mph. Do we think it will be upgraded to category 5 in post analysis? I know the NHC received a report of sustained 161mph winds at landfall, so maybe.
No recon or ground observations are supportive of category 5 intensity in regards to Laura, so with a very high level of certainty, this would be no. There may have been gusts at that strength, but not sustained winds

Can tell you right now it's not. Recon data and land observations wouldn't support that. Regardless Laura was still an extremely powerful storm

I’d say if NHC has Lorenzo as a cat 5 I’d say Laura has to be at most and least 160 MPH becuz imo it looked way better than Dorian but that’s just my opinion

The craziest thing is that Laura caused more fatalities in Hispaniola than in the US despite a stronger landfall in Louisiana.
Really goes to put emphasis on the fact that 90% of deaths from tropical cyclones are from rainfall and flooding

@@PatrickDavis28 Rainfall alone though would underscore potential risks to landfall areas with exceptionally strong storms. Devon William's CDPS scale does a good job of factoring numerous variables
Probably just not confirmed yet. I heard that there were 150 people in Cameron that just decided not to evacuated. Laura made landfall in Cameron. I doubt that all of them are still alive

@@Furry-ym3or They were flagged iirc. Also when a storm is close to land recon starts to get a lot of readings which are most likely the result of wave shoaling
TD 14 at one point had the opportunity to take the name 'Laura.' But then TD 14 decided it didn't want the name, so TD 13 reluctantly took it instead. ^^

The path was more like Rita. But the rate that it intensified, along with the time of day, was very eerily similar to Hurricane Matthew.

Looking at all I have seen on the videos of Prime Laura I think it was a Catagory 5 Hurricane, of about 175 or better from everything I have seen of it. It made it up to northern Arkansas without hitting the Mississippi, and had very similar wind force to Hurricane Irma's prime.
No recon evidence supported C5
