- Tarrah Richardson from Newport Florist and Gifts in Newport Oregon teaches you step-by-step how to make a Christmas centerpiece out of fresh pine, cedar, and fir. Also used are candles, pinecones, gold balls, and ribbon. And fresh flowers including alstroemeria and roses.

I used your tutorial last Christmas and have just found it again to send to a friend and I'll be making another one this year along with a wreath. The only difference is i used the whole oasis foam to make it slightly bigger and had 3 candles with the middle candle being slightly higher than the other 2 but used all of your tips and advice and it lasted long enough to be used at our family new years day dinner too 😀 we always have a 7.5ft Christmas tree in the dining room but i buy a 10ft tree and shorten it from the bottom to give myself lots of fir free branches to use for table decorations, wreaths and other decorations.

I've been wanting to try this for myself, for a few years. Every time I go to order flower arrangements for my Mother, I have nothing but problems. I wanted to order her a beautiful Christmas centerpiece this year but delivery was not available.

How long can this centre piece last on the table before it dries out?
I wonder if these arrangements or the flowers used are sprayed with floral finishing spray?
Thank you for asking Leona! Yes, my preferred finishing spray is Hawaiian Mist. I also like Finishing Touch. I do not like Crowning Glory. A daily spray with plain old water does the flowers and greens good as well.

I’m sorry Bill, I don’t understand the question. Fir, cedar, and pine are three different types of conifers. Cedar and Pine have a long skinny needles.

That’s called a floral foam. It holds water and is the water source for the greens and flowers.
The original registered trade make of the green floral foam is OASIS, as it is known,
but "floral foam" is commonly used as well if you ask for it ; you'll find it in shops selling requirements for flower arrangements classes, florists , in garden centers sometimes, etc ... very useful. 🌹🌿 It's a basic requirement for any floral arrangement made in various containers, it holds water, keeps the flowers and foliages fresh for a long time.
The present video is the perfect example of this essential. floral foam.

Floral foam. My favorite brand is Oasis. You can get it at a flower shop. Remember, fill a basin with water, put the foam on top of the water, and let the foam soak down at it's own pace...DO NOT SUBMERGE IT. It will stay dry in the middle if you "force" it rather than letting it soak down at it's own pace.
