Living full-time in my rolling tiny home has been the best decision of my life. Off-Grid living offers a peace and connection to life that you just can't explain. When i first started van life i build a stealth camper van with the mindset the you had to live a stealth van life and i soon discovered that you can just live the city van life and boondock in the countryside and as long as you are respectful of the backcountry and cities you live in. Stealth van life in not necessary. Be proud of the life you choose to live, Share this van life journey with everyone. Remember Tiny Homes and The whole tiny house lifestyle is very popular and #vanlife is no different. When you don't hide it people will come say hi and ask you questions. The world is more curious than hateful. Well......Welcome to my everyday van life adventures. My name is Chrome Valdez and i travel full-time with Cruz the bulldog. Stay weird everyone and thank you for being here.

I agree with those who mention tins. They are all over the place this time of year and come in many shapes, sizes, and colors. Put labels on the top and you have a mouse-proof airtight container.

DUDE! Just open up those freakin' bags and pour them into the jars! 😅 For everything else (especially better accessibility): use stainless steel boxes - absolutely mice-proof, road ready and sustainable! By the way: I use glass in my van. Just take care that nothing flies around and get quality glass (no too thin). Cheers! 🤘

You have a big heart Chrome and getting your daughter a step up on life will give her the confidence she will need in life. If you get a chance to check thrift stores, you might want to look for the old metal cannisters (rectangular or square ones) for holding your food that you don't want mice in that don't fit in jars.

Wide mouth mason jars would have been better and instead of cutting off the socks you could probably have doubled them over and then that would have added to the thickness for better padding.

I fill my 1lb bottles from a 20lb tank outside. Never had a issue. Make sure you have your 1lb bottle cold before filling, I put my 1lb bottles in the freezer for 15-20 minutes before filling and I weigh the bottle before and after to make sure I got the correct weight of propane in there.

REFILLING PROPANE - I've done this hundreds of times. you'll want to get a set of hemostats to pull on the pressure release valve while you're filling it, this helps getting the proper level of propane in the bottle and equalizes the pressure as you take it off the refilling adapter and seals everything perfectly. you can submerge them in a bucket of water if you want to see if there is any leaks.

    Oh, Chrome, love ya, dude.
You empty the packages into the jar. And you can cut one sock and use it to put bands on each of the jars to make "bumpers" to insulate for each jar so they don't knock against other jars and things.
Tins would work as a mouse deterrent, as well.
It's tough when parents pass, my heart goes out to you

  • @sillyme7920
    @sillyme7920 2 года назад +59

For the oatmeal, you need a rectangular box, a wooden or aluminum box with latch. You can not only store the oatmeal packs and tea bags in them. There are some thick plastic containers that will not be easy to be eaten through. You will be able to see bite marks and change the jar for a new one. But for the rice, the glass is the best. You can wrap it up in clear packing tape, so if it breaks, you wont have glass everywhere. If you dont want to use a sock, buy elastic foam mesh wraps/sleeves.

Don't stress out, take some breaks for yourself and Cruz because you do put so much into your RUclips channel. Thank you for the time you give us, I've thoroughly enjoyed all the experiences you've taken us on, I don't want you to burn out, I'd rather see you take a break every now and then, so you can get to building your "ambo"! Regarding the sleeping location "gone by morning daylight" explanation near the end of the video: Part of the way that my brain is wired is to notice patterns, and so I often see and notice the same people and same vehicles during my daily routine. I like the "Familiar Stranger" sightings, and your channel has made me especially aware of the regular overnighters in my area, and I enjoy seeing them if I am awake early enough to look out my window. Many follow the pattern that Chrome describes, of changing locations regularly (not too many consecutive nights in same place) and arriving at night and leaving in early morning.

My van used to get so dirty so fast. Especially in the winter. On days when it was cold and really nothing to do I'd toss things around with the mindset that I'll "clean it tomorrow". I say this with much love but I'm getting a sense that you're about done with van life. Especially when I saw you drag that couch into the shop. I remember the warm fuzzy feeling of sleeping in a bed that made me realize I was done. I lived it for 2 1/2 yrs. Been in my apartment for 6 months

A tiny drop of silicone oil can go a long way to help keep it from sticking! Propane is pretty dry, silicone won’t hurt much either helps runner seals. Just what I’ve used on older bottles. Also not sure if you have the space but the little 5lb tanks are pretty small. Not cheap but very nice to tuck into small spaces

I have sealing plastic food containers. I think I got them at a dollar store or one of the big supermarkets, like Super Store or Extra Foods. Mice can’t get in, they won’t break, and you can usually get them in sets that stack. Another thing I got for my RV is heavy plastic food storage containers made by Rubbermaid that are all the same shape as a cereal container, maybe 3 inches wide and about 7 long, in different heights. They stack on each other really well and don’t shift easily. I keep all kinds of things in those, like art supplies, office supplies, odd things that I want contained. They’re designed for food, but they work for lots of other stuff.

You can even get food storage containers like the big totes you use under your bed, in all kinds of stiff heavy plastic. Better than glass for sure, and they help make the best use of space.

Buy some bubble wrap, cut a piece to wrap around the jar, duck tape together. Use a marker for the top. You need widemouth jars , unless the product is pourable.

Metal lock box, Chrome.. stores easily in the drawers, locks out mice and vermin. Especially if you put a thin layer of weather stripping around to tighten the seal.

Regarding the jars: if you have a place in your kitchen area, attach the lids to the bottom of a cabinet with screws, then screw the jar on the lids. Make sure they're far enough apart not to hit each other when jiggling down the road. Another option is to glue some type of padding around the jars, line the drawer with anti-skid liner, and section the drawer off so that the jars are packed close together.✨ Another option is to use metal containers and put your mouse magnet food in those (in their packaging). The problem with that is that the mice might still get the tops off the metal containers since they aren't screwed on.✨

Chrome, you can buy a variety of sizes of tin cans that your oatmeal would fit in at the dollar store. To prevent any rattling just place a J-Cloth, a dish cloth or a small sponge between anything that rattles or are breakable. CAREFUL, you keep collecting stuff you may collect 😉 (a wife). Just enjoy the new path your on and hang loose and if the filming starts to overwhelm you take a break and go to that beach in Mexico and chill. We all need to stop running through life and stop to smell the roses. Have an incredible day as you ponder on how blessed you are, it will renew your body and soul.

Place paper between them. It will keep them from clinking and breaking them.
The socks will work as it will have double socks when next to each other.
Also you can spray paint the plastic containers and mice won't eat it. We do this even in our house and Van when traveling. In summer we leave food in these painted containers in the Van all the time. That way I don't have to move things in and out.

I use non-skid grip tite liners in my rv to keep any of glassware including jars from moving around when traveling. You can buy them at Dollar Stores or Walmart. If I know that I'm going on a bumpy ride I'll also use kitchen towels or hand towels rolled up between them.

Life gets messy sometimes...sometimes gotta do micro custom installations of things to make each individual zone in a vehicle intricately setup ...it's just further deeper more intricate kustomizing even in cabinets and such...just ideas thoughts to share....evolve smaller van zones to become even better tighter...ideas for zones to be even better

they make different width openings for mason jars chrome. Also, plastic is better than actually eating the food, your plastic will get destroyed and you will be able to hear the mice. Exclusion is the best course of action.

You can wrap the bottles in something
Say if you put it in a sock drawer
    Or like a shirt drawer
And then they'll be plenty of room between the glass jars
Open up the packets of oatmeal and dump it in
Then pour out what oatmeal you want to eat each time

As someone else said wide mouth Mason jars is what you want. In the bottom of the drawer place a sheet of bubble wrap or shelf liner. Then tie 2 pieces of rope or thickish twine around the jars . The rope will serve to hold the jars slightly apart so that they do not clang together when you are bouncing around the back country. If you are planning on really rough roads a sheet of bubble wrap over the top of the jars may be something you would find of benefit as well. Another thing I am doing is using ziplock smell proof mylar bags. They come in different sizes up to 2 gallons , take up the least amount of space and the ones I buy have a clear window on the front and they are reusable. I suck the air out of the bag with a straw.

In my experience of having campers over the last 35 years plastic works unless you leave it sit for months at a time as much as you move you would not have a problem with a quality plastic container. I use plastic coffee cans because it's hard to find metal anymore. I have a matched set of red coffee can canisters.

Here's a better idea for the glass jars... get you some rubberband. It keeps them from clanging, saves your socks for your feet and you can position them so that they are staggered to save space. 🥴 and stop stressing over the oatmeal. Just sacrifice one lil spot in your upper cabinet for oatmeal only. It's to delicious to share with mice! 🤣🤣🤣

Chrome. Just figure out how many spoonfulls are in each hot cereal pouch and then Rio em all open into the jar (like bulk). Then only use 3 or 4 spoonfulls per bowl or whatever each pouch measured out to. The only pain will be when you 1st buy andcrippingvall the packs open, but after it'll be do easy.

Store your wash cloths, towels ect in between your jars, open your oatmeal packets and dump them into the jar. Don't cut the socks off, put them on inside out then fold the top back down over itself. Metal tins work for storage too.
