A.S. aus Hamburg
The history of the ship is quite impressive. 1st large craft Germany was allowed to build after WW2. It was also in the Bond movie "To Russia With Love." I was more of a find than a choice, The ship was on eBay when it was found. It was quite a lofty endeavor from the beginning.
This is really sad. I watched a few videos on her restoration. At the time they were working on the deck and staterooms and such. I would have thought the very first task would be to 'sound' the hull and repair any structural issues You work on a ship from the keel up not from the top down.
very sad. Always had hoped she would be saved but deep down knew there was way too much to be done, without the backing of some serious funding and equipment
@@andrebrammer2214 Perhaps if someone had the money and were willing. All of the work done over the years by countless volunteers has been decimated. I also imagine the ship will be tied up in litigation for the unforeseeable future.
Oh no, how sad, this is an amazing Post WWII German Vessel that put their passenger shipping yards on the map back then. I sure hope it can be saved some how. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya
Bonjour. Beaucoup trop de tristesse pour ce bateau et pour ce projet de restauration. J'aimerais quand même savoir la cause de la voie d'eau et ce qu'il va advenir du bateau et de vous. Très cordialement Yvan.
It is now in the care of S.J. County who are trying to refloat it and send it elsewhere to be scrapped. News item yesterday says they will hold the owner accountable for the costs. Good luck with that! He is already on the run.
THIS IS AN EXTREMELY VALUABLE LESSON ABOUT SHIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND EVEN I DIDN'T THINK ABOUT IT, UNTIL THIS HAPPENED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALWAYS DEAL WITH STRUCTURAL AND HULL ISSUES FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TO HELL WITH EVERYTHING ELSE UNTIL YOU KNOW YOU HAVE A SOUND STRUCTURE AND HULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I always thought it was such an unimpressive and odd choice for preservation. The mine sweeper that sunk beside her seemed more interesting.

Breaks my heart
This is a very sad situation. It seemed like a great project but now hopeless.
Yes it is hopeless. It was sad to see.
Sad to see but still saveable.

@@jcommstudios Yes Iam guessing the new owner will be presented with a huge bill that he cannot afford to pay.

They should have dealt with the hull first. Now it's just scrap. So sad.
Never know they might be able to save her.
Is the water matching the waterline inside too?
@@Radiogirl1931 the interior was completely flooded and destroyed.
Should have been dry docked first .... Sad
Does anybody have any updates?? Has she been re-floated??

@@jcommstudios Yes found a video about it on youtube. And I agree good luck finding the owner.

Her former owner probably could not afford to dry dock her and do what ever repairs to her lower hull that were needed??
