I remember seeing this spot in skatevideos first time when i was barely a teenager. I was clueless where it is, not that it matters to me anyways, but i knew its somewhere in US and im from Europe. Fast forward over 10 years, i was visiting LA and i recognized those sculptured poles on the landing instantly from a distance. People i was there with thought i was crazy. They just couldnt understand why the hell i was so hyped to go check out some damn STAIRS and take pictures of them, instead of the beach or the pier. Fuck that pier.
Another awesome spot breakdown! Berrics trying to copy y’all, but you guys are way better at this. RIP Robbie McKinley btw. One of the nicest dudes that would frequent Hot Rod Skateshop. Hopefully he snuck a picnic table into heaven. 🙏
Damn when did he pass away? I remember it was only like a year ago they mentioned him in a nine club episode as one guy who quit skating too soon. I actually just watched the DC video the other day too, he’s always dapping 👊 the camera in his video parts Edit: just googled it and as soon as I started reading the article I realized I did hear about this a while back but I guess it slipped my mind cuz they really didn’t have any details
@@RKLS90 March 28th of this year. He was such a rad skater and human being. I remember a Hot Rod demo where Dan Druff offered a shirt to the first person that could find a pro. I ran inside and spotted Robbie McKinley. He was super humble and always smiling.
No offence bruh but the dern channel didn't invent spot checks, 411 been doing it since they were still in diapers, before RUclips even existed, no need to be a gatekeeper
There are triple sets that are small as shit. I’ve been to the Santa Monica three set and yea it’s way bigger in person. It’s unbelievable how tricks you’ve seen on video go down.
How this channel doesn’t have 100k plus yet blows my mind. Awesome content guys keep it up! To me the barley switch hardflip ender for element world tour was always my favorite on this set. His part was so gnarly and underrated.
@7:30 That nollie big heelflip is so fucking clean. And that super slow mo footage is fantastic. I was watching frame by frame and theres a point where the board is upside down and hes hovering above the trucks with both feet. Just looks so cool.
This is my new favorite channel. Yall really hit home with these spots. Then i is cool to see SLS recreate stuff like hubba hideout. I love that skating is getting so much underground publicity for us skaters and old heads
Yo Dern bros! Love what you guys are doing! Just wanted to add a few tricks to the list though Jacob Walder switch inward heel Andrew Pott FS bigspin Adam Dyet nollie full cab These are some that were done before the people you listed Terry Kennedy heelflip Josh Kasper hardflip Bobby Rodriguez inward heel Kurt Winter switch bs flip Eric Bork switch fs flip Some ABD’s Cris Lesh varial flip Cory Kennedy switch big heel (not sure if his or Derricks was first) Also the switch fs bigspin was Jonathan Pierce and James fakie big was nollie. Sorry guys, mega skate nerd over here! 😂
7:22. Its hidden somewhere in the middle of the video, but Nollie big heel feels like the most difficult. Having to pop nollie, rotating and catching your board blindside down the stairs...then landing fakie. Be such a hard trick to commit too. Another awesome addition to this legendary series👍
Nollie fs flip seems really awkward to travel that long with precision. Moose is always the dark horse! Cole, 2005-2009, could probably have done ollie 360 onefoot / north. I imagine Aurelien being able to do the blizzard flip. How about switch fs flip revert, or what the name is ... How long is that thing? Fingerflip airwalk ...
I personally think fakie 3 shuv is the hardest, it's easy on flat but I can't imagine doing one going so fast down such a long gap, there's a reason you don't see that trick down big things very often
@@BeVe-iu2mjFor sure, having the board spinning like that is easy on flat but it can turn ever so slightly down big shit that can have you landing primo. Crazy board control.

Just old skol shredding to spots with the boys. Awesome VLOGs...The Penny, Wray, Cardiel, Barbee, Hill, etc...days
Really appreciate these. So much history and progression. Crazy how this spot actually seems small now but back then it was gnarly. Still is and just shows how much progression occurred
Love these. Only thing I would like to see if tricks in chronological order. Obviously would add work but would be cool to see the progression over time
MIKE PIWOWAR fan appreciation comment... 1 year late seeing this but stoked... lol so many tricks but love seeing my closer skate homies featured... inward heels are insane lol
The series is just awesome! Thank you guys so much for doing this! Maybe for the future vids you could add some scenes from the top of the stair sets, like a pov you know, so people that are not there could see more real size of the sets. Everyone's got used to the classic video angles but it doesn't really give you idea how big it actually is.
One missed is showing Kurt Winter landing his switch bs flip, you showed his bail at the beginning, but didn’t show the land later on. His Smoke and Mirrors part was awesome and that switch bs flip was insane with the way he flicked and caught it, almost looking like he’d fall rolling away but kept it and made it really stylish.
I lived in SaMo for a bit. I was bored one day & went there by myself, set up my iPhone 5 to self record & tried to kickflip this in 2013. It's much bigger than I thought and although I did stick one, it's just to long. I always liked skating tall and short stairs, and it's so hard to control your board going that fast. Also I am a filmer and not to good of a skater, I was just feeling my kickflips at the time and wanted to huck one for the gram. Mad props to all the legends who murdered this spot!
Dern bros are core skateboarding. Best in class. You guys should visit Burnside in Portland, Dalton would shred it. And Lincoln City, the best slalom ever.
Diego Najera did nollie hard flip as well! One of my favorites you didn't include was Andrew Pott's fs bigspin. Great video down memory lane my friends
i work at my local skateshop of 31 years Phaze One, i love skateboard history and this series just makes my day! is pressure flip and 360 pressure nbd?

Wild because these things are so much larger in person. Rolling up to stairs over 10 or more or of that length is wild. You roll up and your like oh sh it's way larger than I thought
Carsten Boyer did smith grind on the rail Clive lipslid on the pier, it was in a Berrics part called CB21 but the video isn't on youtube and was made private on the berrics when i searched it just now
We forgot about that one! I think he did it for his pretty sweet part but then it ended up not being included maybe cause it was an ABD but still such a sick one to throw that there and make it happen!
dang, growing up in canada, long jump sets like this were my jam..being older now its still big but not like I saw it when I was a kid..the space between the stairs seemed like a desert of endless proportion, and a downhill runup? with the adrenaline hype of an audience and food at the landing? It's probably a good thing us canada boys didn't have early access to this hehe.
that lipslide by Clive Dixon was crazy. man he can chomp some rails. oh, and as for the triple set- my fave trick was probably the nollie tre, followed by the switch bs flip which Kurt Winter did and they forgot to mention despite showing the footage at the start there.
That John Getz dude was insane. He tre flipped late flipped then hardflip late flipped these 2 sets of stairs in a line years ago. Think it was a 6 and a 7, NKA filmed it
Casual ollie the triple set is crazy 🔥🤘
