I fucking LOVE this track. It's the definitive DOOM track for me, the game can't be described through music in a better way. It's pretty funny considering Doom is known for its intense, energetic metal tracks and yet the one that represents what Doom is all about is one of the few tracks that's more quiet, calm, and chilling.
Also waltz of the demons, demons on the prey, demons from adrians pen, dark halls, nobody told me about id. This kinds of tracks are my favorites in doom
If you swap the fist-pumping metal tracks out for the ones composed by Aubrey Hodges, it _completely_ changes the entire atmosphere and mood of the game.
Such a simple tune and yet this very music made me really afraid to even cross that first nuke pond and turn the corner after starting the level as a kid! Its amazing how a humble little MIDI tune can ratchet up the horrific atmosphere so much. E1M1? I was like "FUCKING KILL! RRRAGH! COME GET IT!". E1M5? " This is so scary this is so scary what if a pink demon is waiting around the corner and charges me ohgodohgod". Love it.
BL4CK_M3TAL 2479 it’s a RUclips channel called Peanut Butter Gamer or PBG for short. He makes a series called Hardcore where they try to complete a goal in a game like Minecraft (the most popular one), Terraria, MineZ, and more and if you die in the game, you’re dead for good and can’t get back on the server. It’s really interesting and every time they go in the Nether in Minecraft they tend to play this song.
I would rephrase the title Suspense to... "In The Dark". And believe me, I took a stroll in the park last night where it was really dark with no lights and I played this song on my phone the whole way to try and get the feeling of it. I was use to it a little while later.
I remember I finnished Command Center as a kid 13 years ago. Kitchen ace is still an amazing track. And then I see the end level screen titled "Phobos Lab... this oughta be good!". I had trouble sleeping after I've heard the theme for it but now I love the shit out of it. I can easily say its my favourite song and seeing it in doom 2016 (Authorization olivia pierce) only warmed my soul. It really fits the theme of the game too. The sense of dread you get from all of these former humans or the lost souls wandering the very dark corners of the facility.
This music is frightening. I wish the new Doom would have an update someday to listen to this while playing various levels. This would be perfect for the Foundry area. This music actually can give nightmares. You can feel desperation and despair while listening to this.
"Honey, it's your Mother. I'm coming over tomorrow to say hi and chat. I hope you've cleaned that mess of a house up, and that dog has stopped getting it's jaws on everything. Seriously, I've had to replace my ankles three times already. Anyway, talk more later, the girls are getting together soon. Ta-taa!"
You know. I like this a lot! I like how the first few levels are these intense blood pumping, hyping metal tracks that get the player hooked into the game, they are jamming, having lots of fun lots of joy, and then later the music in later levels begin to give off a feeling of horror. I feel like that was done on purpose. Have the first soundtracks make the player feel like they are invincible and they have nothing to fear, only to later shock them with horror music to catch the player off guard and make them feel nervous. As if they slowly begin to realize that they may not be as invincible as they thought they were. It gives almost like a false sense of security, only to then sucker punch you with the scary stuff. I kind of like it more when DooM is trying to have a combination of action and horror rather than just being plain action like the new Doom games (Doom 2016 & Eternal), or just plain horror like Doom 3 tried to be. Not that there is anything wrong with Doom 2016 and Eternal, in fact they are really fantastic games, but I love the feeling the classic games give off more. You feel invincible because you have these super cool weapons, from a pistol to a shotgun, to a rocket launcher, the plasma rifle, to the BFG 9000, and your character is super strong and fast, but at the same time there are these scary monsters prowling around waiting for you to arrive at the room they are hiding in and assault you, so you still keep your guard up and look around checking every corner for demons, and listening for any growling or screeching of any demons nearby. I just love this feeling of feeling badass at first, then realizing the seriousness of the situation I'm in.

Doom is my all time favorite first person shooter, the music is absolutely insanely great.
i would add Turok 2, Quake 2, Duke Nukem 3D, Blood and the Hexen series. Great Soundtracks.
