I didn't know that Gov't Mule had covered this...it's the first time I heard it. Hats off to Warren and his awesome band for having the musical integrity to cover such an iconic classic. I loved Steve Marriott's vocals and his spirit...hat's off to Warren and the Mule for doing this. And a hell of a job they did with it too!
1 of my best buddys was a roadie for Govt Mule, he took me to a show in 2015 in St Pete and it rocked sooo fuckin' hard...gritty, raw power. I was forever changed. This song makes my soul bleed.
I love classic rock and find it very rare to find re-makes that are even easily compared to the original..... this, however, trumps the Humble Pie version in every way IMO. Thanks for posting this up with such clear sound. I love live performances but finding gems like this with clarity is always nice.
@@furrytroopersunited9479 I agree. And I really like Warren Haynes. This has no soul. They made it sound metal when it was a mix of rock blues soul. This sounds nothing like the original song. In fact, I thought it was another song at first.
HUMBLE PIE with Steve the Legend Marriott! it didn't matter who played guitar (Frampton or Clempson) the both were very good players. not forgetten Shirley and Ridley. a very good cover by Gov't Mule......
I've been trying to work out a bassline for this version and I just about got what I want. I have absolutely no issue with a re-do on a song, it's exactly what I do, learn a song and then play it like I want it, it may be close or way different but I do what makes me happy, Nice clean recording here, thanks.
The only thing missin is the pure rawness...but this version is more refined than the HP version...Haynes is excellent at writin, singin, playin and arrangin! What more can ya do? Very well done
30 days in the hole, The Way Warren Haynes said so..That is the way he wanted to do it! He's not Steve Marriott and he does not try to be.. It is good either way Psss... Just Listen No Talk!! Did anyone Compare/or Complain When Zeppelin Down right stole Whole Lotta Love from The small faces You need lovin", I am a Zep Head But everyone borrows or steals however you want to look at it! Steve is Steve and Warren is Warren+ I like them both
I swear it's "Some seeds and dust that you got busted on, I know it's hard to believe..." and "Take some urban noise, and some Durban Poison, gonna loosen your load..." but everywhere I check it is "buzzed on", not "busted on", and only one site said "Durban Poison" not "dirt with poison". What a trip, been hearing the wrong lyrics for years!
Mr Quealey, your version of the lyrics is correct. Keep in mind that when you check lyrics "everywhere," and you then see one consistent set of lyrics written in many different places, this is not a pattern which represents an independently-sourced consensus. You are seeing a repetition of one set of probably-erroneous lyrics, originally of dubious provenance itself, which has been copied and re-published by hundreds of websites. These lyrics sites have little regard for the accuracy of what they represent to be authentic versions of these texts. It is a groteque shame: the money-grubbing fools responsible for these lyrics sites are willing to destroy, or at least distort, our culture, for the sake of filthy lucre. After the revolution, they'll be the second set that we stand up with their backs against the wall. And we'll repay them, with interest, for their crimes, by misprinting their last words. Truth is the first victim of capitalism.
cover band??? are you serious??? sure, they do do a lot of covers but to call them a cover band is a slap in the face and totally not accurate. they have have a ton of original songs that are just as good, if not better, than anything they cover. Warren Haynes is one of the best there is. he excels in all 3 categories; song writing, vocals and guitar playing. very few people have all three of those at the level Warren has.
Cover band? Those are frikkin fighting words where I come from. Anyone who would say that has clearly never been to a show and watched Mr Haynes work harder and longer than any other man in the business.
Right on man.. lost count how many times I have seen Gov't Mule.. They have done lots of covers and some better than the original bands version. 😊 Whoever called them a cover band doesn't know music. 😂
@@gatekeeper5561 exactly! I've lost count of the Mule shows I've been to as well. Started back in the early days with Woody! They're one of the best bands out there for real! Anybody that thinks it's a cover band doesn't understand music or this band at all!!
@thorinkhalin. Well, that is your opinion anyway. lol. It doesnt have the frenetic chaos that Steve captured, nor does it have anywhere near as good of vocals. But yeah, its a good cover. Guitar is phenomenal, but its Haynes, so that is to be expected.
Gov't Mule does a lot of covers. BUT, Warren and the band have their share of bad ass originals that stand on their own. Do yourself a HUGE favor & check out their "Life Before Insanity" album for starters. Afterwards, you might better admire this "Allman Brothers Band" side project for introducing a new generation to some classic music throught their amazing covers. BUT, referring to Gov't Mule as just a "great cover band" ("that's what they do") is acutally an insult and totally incorrect.

@cgraber I disagree with you on the vocals. While Haynes, as you put it quite well, doesn't convey that frenetic chaos, the other side of the coin is that he doesn't overdo it. And Steve going over the top with his voice is the one thing that always puts me off a little when I listen to Humble Pie. Also, when I first listened to this version, I was almost blown out of my chair by how awesomely fat Warren made the main riff.
I'm too young to have seen Marriott live. But from the video footage I've seen I will agree with you. That dude was a live wire. But I still like this slowed down cover a lot.
Something's missing, no harmonica? you can impress me with good writing/singing/ playing/etc...but you can't leave out essential elements...rawness and that pesky little harmonica detail.
No matter what this band does wheather its a cover or original it just ROCKS !!!!!!
Saw them many y in Tally. Great shows. Warren was always into his audience.

Warren Haynes is the absolute best no matter who he covers! Thanks for remaking these amazing classics!
Reminds me on leslie west and mountain. Great!
Gov't Mule flat out NAILS covers. Always have and I've always loved them for it.
this is the best cover of a rock song ever! what a great band!
Thanks Howard Stern. Never knew about this song until you played it now I can't stop listening to it.

Thankyou thank you
Warren is a Monster!!!! He could cover an MC Hammer, or Village People song, and kill it!!!! Warren sings it, he owns it🇺🇸😎🤘🔥
So well done by Warren and company. Grit and wickedness!
NEVER EVER GETS OLD, LIke spaghetti gets better every time you rewarm it my friends?! Dilly Dilly, March Madness ❤🏀🍻❤

Respectfully disagree. It does it great justice and respects Stevie. I like it and yet cannot top this original for me.
Gives me the need for more tattoos and a chopper. Warren is the new hardest working man in show business. MULE!!!
I am left with only one word after hearing this.......WOW!
Love both versions equally!!! Very impressed with this cover!!
Humble Pie nailed it years ago however, Warren and the Boys put some soul into it.
But the Humble Pie version was better, this sounds like shit
Some more soul
@@furrytroopersunited9479 I agree. And I really like Warren Haynes. This has no soul. They made it sound metal when it was a mix of rock blues soul. This sounds nothing like the original song. In fact, I thought it was another song at first.
If the Mule cover your song they own it.
They own their version.
this song turned me on to gov't mule...LOVE IT!!!!
Love this song I'm so glad they brought it back

I do the same on the drums.
I just love it!!!!!don't care what people say

He's not just covering 30 Days in the Hole here, he's giving a nod to Mountain's Leslie West (Mississippi Queen). Sounds amazing and very clever!

They do a live cover of Comeback by Pearl Jam that is amazing. One of my favorite Mule songs
Justice!!
Ohhh yeah!
Warren missed the mark here. It’s 30 Days in the Hole stuck in the mud.
Benn there Bobby
So wicked!
Best song about drugs ever ,love waren but Steve ownes this one
i like , peace , t. davis
Bad ass
drug binge's ftw!
Janice does awesome version also....
The groove sounds like early Sabbath
I'm thinking Cream but everyone kinda gave and took it with their sound. Imitation sometimes is flattering.

Hempilation by NORML
From an album called with a little help from my friends
THIS
"Trumps"? Really?? THis is good, but Warren is NO Steve Marriott, not even close man.
I'm too young to have seen Marriott live. But from the video footage I've seen I will agree with you. That dude was a live wire. But I still like this slowed down cover a lot.

gov't mule is not a cover band warren will always make it his own in a way while paying homage to the original.
Guess they forgot to ask you first eh mate? Had to make it theirs...it's a cover not a copy
Warren get rid of the satanic symbols man
My boss showed me this song. Shout out Jason! Rock on
