It goes back to the old saying, "history is written by the winners". When they start pushing an unfounded revised version of our past, they're trying to steer our future in their direction. I was lucky enough to meet Rod Serling in 1968 when he was filming a piece on John Dillinger on the street behind my house . I was in 2nd grade rode my bike down . I walked up to Mr Serling who looked extremely rugged and handsome . I had a poloroid camera around my neck andcasked fr a pic . He obliged . I still hv it w the hard stick on backing . @Gary Nelson being someone who is a senior doesn't make you a "man of the world" especially when it comes to evaluating talent and being a former or current Creative writer doesn't hold much more merit nowadays than someone who is well versed in women's studies or Humanities at the local university! Mine too but l think rather than 1984, Brave New World is a better example of today, where citizens are controlled more and more by comfort, pleasure and diversions, where the family is abolished, materialism is promoted, people are segregated into units to support the state and there is no morality.

@@badduka198 that’s very true. In no way am I a centrist (I don’t think being a centrist improves any of our political division, but only furthers it) but I think the two party system only encourages division in our country. Even me, being an impressionable young teen has said things like “Oh that was written by a conservative, I don’t care what they have to say” and a lot of us think like that, we see and hear things through a filter rather than actually hearing and seeing people.
@Arachnotron The two-party system is bad because of the only two parties. Three or four parties drawn from the largest 3rd party parties would be a better system because of more choice instead of the illusion of it.
The New Funk Movement You're talking about that episode where the one astronaut killed the other astronauts in order to steal their water so he could survive. And then after he found out he was on Earth.
"I Shot an Arrow." I'm from the Mojave desert in Nevada. That episode always made me wonder how stupid the astronauts would have to be not to realize they were about 250 miles from Los Angeles.
@Jitana Martinez Lol yeah I guess maybe that was more believable to me because it's in the distant future and we had blown ourselves up, so enough had changed it could be believed they truly could not have known they were on Earth.
“The Obsolete Man” I caught this episode yesterday during the New Years Day TZ marathon on SyFy. The expression "we have to learn from our mistakes" is constantly used by politicians that never learn by their mistakes or any others.
The reason that politicians don't learn from their mistakes is that no one holds them accountable and they never have to pay the price or deal with the consequences of their mistakes.
If politicians had to pay back money they stole, gave away, misplaced, misappropriated, etc... they wouldn't be so careless with OUR money.
Well you voted for them to be in the office
@@caspertheghost6978 --- I had my voting rights and my right to own or possess a firearm taken away over twenty years ago. So you can't say I voted them in.

"Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past." ― George Orwell, 1984
That reminds me of that TED talk about "a single story" that we have to let those not in power tell their past. Probably off-topic but an interesting addition to the conversation.
It goes back to the old saying, "history is written by the winners". When they start pushing an unfounded revised version of our past, they're trying to steer our future in their direction. If the victor of a conflict makes fools and monsters out of their opponent, then it justifies their own means of how they won. Once they convince us of their truth, then 2+2=5, and you believe anything they tell you.
So you're sayin', who controls the present, controls the future? Speak plainly, Doc - we ain't philosophers!
@@edfederoff2679 Histories are written by the powers in charge at the moment. Barring exhaustive research, future outlooks are derived from those histories.
What arrogance! No single human being controls the future in general. That's so grandiose it sounds more like something Orson Wells would say. You take hold of where *_your_* life is going. You control only what you say, do, & think, not what everyone else does. It's not humanly possible for you to control the course of the entire human race. That's absurd. We aren't gods. We are only mortal human beings living on a tiny blue planet that, compared to the Milky Way, is nothing more than a speck of dust. You could say we are even tinier specks inhabiting a tiny speck in space
IMO it's much closer to the truth to say those who truly understand history have a much stronger grasp of *_their_* future. To understand the past is to know where your life is going & avoid the oft repeated mistakes of others throughout the ages ;o)

In 1986, the planet's highest frequency over the air television channel was being erected on channel 63. I happen to live very close to this new television station. I started watching from the very first test signals. For the effective signal range tests and to set up repeaters, the station played the complete, Twilight Zone series constantly for four months. I had just been in a horrific accident and awoke from a two week coma. That was when I started finding the very first short test signals. Later, the constant playing of The Twilight Zone series started. I watched it as much as I possibly could. My hospital room was private so I could watch television any time. All I did for four months, day and night was watch The Twilight Zone and eat every few days. I did not bother to sleep for days and never checked the time, turned on the lights, nor opened the shades to the window. I barely slept because of all the pain I was in so I just watched The Twilight Zone and nothing else. The television station did not even have commercial advertising, nor any sort of break in the playing of the series for months. Between constantly watching The Twilight Zone series constantly, no visitors, and constant sharp pain for months, I think it changed me.

Rod Serling was a genius. The way he went around 1950's/60's censorship regarding the discussion of race relations and small-minded bigotry by creating storylines using allegory and metaphor was brilliant.

The right wants creationism taught as science, they have this idea that if logic and the truth chalenged people's "long held beliefs", that they should not be taught (Texas ban on critical reasoning teaching).
Often, too, what the right wants on college campuses if for kids and teachers to be able to be like Donald Trump, spew out hate and lies and face no consequences for it. The irony is universities protect right wing quacks, Scott Atlas who promoted all kinds of idiotic ideas about covid, that it wan't a threat, that herd immunity would come up without killing many people, is on the Stanford faculty. Mahmet Oz, who is on the faculty of columbia-presbytyrian medical center, who claimed covid was not fatal, that it didn't kill more than the flu, that hydroxychloroquinone cured covid, and they both still have jobs. @@MC-wh3xm exactly. It's an entirely selfish endeavor.
Well compelled speech laws do just that though.
Surprised RUclips’s algo suggested this video rather than deleting it.
Says the person with a RUclips account.
But still, I agree.
They’re trying to appeal to you, because they have a profile on you and they knew you would like it. The more they do it successfully, the smarter the algorithm gets until they know exactly who is for or against the system.
Well also RUclips has bugs

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it
How can we learn when there are many who try and erase parts of it as if it never happened .
Those who learn from history will live long enough to see history repeat itself.
@ Kod13. You are so correct. Like the morons who do not believe in the holocaust, my grandmother left France right before Hitler invaded France.. I still worry about Trump's camps. People have started to die, but the media I not reporting on it. Just google it, to find out the truth.
History always repeats itself.
_John Doe, 2019._
The idiots who accept the made up reality of the Fake News Media, despite abundant evidence right before their eyes, are the ones who force the rest of us to doom when the clock is turned back.
"Logic is an enemy and truth is a mance."
God, that sounds exactly like the people, parties, and ideologies that I disagree with!
Wow, it's like most countries' political parties don't have your best interests in mind and want you to hate your fellow citizen instead of improving your life?
It's almost like that political figures have the only goal of staying in power?
What's a mance?
@@badduka198 that’s very true. In no way am I a centrist (I don’t think being a centrist improves any of our political division, but only furthers it) but I think the two party system only encourages division in our country. Which creates the idea of “I can’t speak to the other side, the other side is stupid and ignorant”. Even me, being an impressionable young teen has said things like “Oh that was written by a conservative, I don’t care what they have to say” and a lot of us think like that, we see and hear things through a filter rather than actually hearing and seeing people.
It’s funny how any message can be turned around and used against anyone in existence
@Arachnotron The two-party system is bad because of the only two parties. Three or four parties drawn from the largest 3rd party parties would be a better system because of more choice instead of the illusion of it.
This wise message has STAYED with me to this day !
Remember the episode where astronauts thought they crashed on Mars?..but they really crashed in the Nevada desert...Makes you wonder 🤔 😉
The New Funk Movement You're talking about that episode where the one astronaut killed the other astronauts in order to steal their water so he could survive. And then after he found out he was on Earth.
Kobies Boxing yep...that one.
The New Funk Movement I missed the beginning of it, but none the less it shows human nature.
"Logic is an enemy and Truth is a menace" - truer words were never spoken.
“The Obsolete Man” I caught this episode yesterday during the New Years Day TZ marathon on SyFy. All I thought of when they said “You are obsolete, you have no purpose” was “You are non-essential worker, and have no purpose...you are obsolete”. 😱 I’ve been watching and loving The Twilight Zone for decades and never recall seeing this episode; it was quite haunting considering the times we are living in. It’s definitely worth checking out the whole episode!
everytime they said that to me i got 20k richer..and they looked like douchebag in the end.
there is nothing more valuable than skill.

That boxing guy from Rocky was the librarian. I saw it at the same time you did. I thought it was good timing to be on this year.

Wow, he had such a compelling voice.
Rod Serling's "The Twilight Zone", one of TV's Greatest!
Top five episodes of the greatest tv series ever. RS was not only a genius, but an artist that focused on human preservation and divine dignity.
It was allowed on tv, he was obviously a part of it
