The X-Maxx is a better Truck, but I still love my Kraton 8S. A big reason is definitely the durability issues with the 8S. 5 mins in, I lost an arm, on a small jump. The plastics are too hard and people are recomminding boiling the arms and wing mount. But even so, Ill never buy an X-Maxx. Its a strange thing really, I think its because Ive always loved the truggy platform. A mean, low-profile truck that just looks so much more angry than a monster. It just looks like it wants to kill you in your sleep, and I love that. Plus the fact that with higher gearing it even drives like a race truggy, its just sick as hell. Slap a 21-23T pinion in the Kraton 8S and ull keep up with the best of the 5th scale racers. I plan on a MAX5 ESC and a Leopard Hobby 5892 Ver 2.0 1200KV motor, then some Louise RC X-Uphill tires and a 24T pinion to create a truck that will do 55 MPH absolutely anywhere and over any terrain. Thats something that the tall profile of the X-Maxx will simply never be able to manage. But then again, the X-Maxx is a stunt truck, not a racer. So to each their own, but I have loved my Kraton 6S for years and now I love my Kraton 8S as well!
I have the xmaxx, my brother has the kratton our drag races were like yours. Just about even top speed but he was able to take off faster due to xmaxx wheelies. Also like your video I blew out my rear bearing. Easy fix though.
I like the Xmaxx, and I always like R/C cars and I alawys wanted a REAL, R/C cars. Good job on helping me figure out which one to choose down the road.
Change the center diff fuild in the kraton to a very thick viscosity and it will wheelie all day. I recommend doing this outta the box. It will help transfer power to both diffs equally and will help with front tires ballooning at high speeds
I own an Xmaxx and Maxx.. really wanted an 8s Kraton to add to my collection but looking at what I mostly do with my trucks I realized it would rarely get driven. I guess if I did more track racing (which some locals do near me every weekend) I would probably want that Kraton 8s. I kinda like the craziness of the Xmaxx.
It's so obvious that the xmaxx jumps better than the K8S. It can backflip easier off smaller jumps too. Xmaxx for me. That's why I prefer the O8S and Xmaxx 8s. Durability goes to the xmaxx for sure!
I agree with everything.. if I was going to only drive on say a bmx track then maybe I’d have a Kraton but for just messing around bashing and just having general fun it’s xmaxx all the way! Both great vehicles though.👍🏻
The X-maxx feels more exiting at lower speeds because it flips over easier than the Kraton. And the Kraton looks slower than it is because it is so planted. Both truck will be fun :)
Great direct comparison, stock for stock 👍 I found it funny that people keep saying the K8S is slow and the Xmaxx is fast out the box 🤣 38mph is decent stock speed for these big trucks and they are identical.
You will get faster lap time, top speed, better air control and more stability while driving with the Kraton. With the X-Maxx u get more bashing capabilities, that thing is a tank. I choose the X-Maxx cuz i love the monster truck look of it and wanted his durability. One of my arms are like half broken since a year and i can still make 15 to 20 feet high jumps and back and front flips without fully breaking the arm yet. I do not regret the purchase of the X-Maxx, i absolutely love that thing. But if u also thinking about buying am X-Maxx u should also buy at least the blue loctite for the pinion gear or what i recommend the green one which holds it forever in place. If u leave it stock without loctite it will become loose. Just keep that in mind. Nice video too. What i also forget to mention is that if you break something on the X-Maxx it is much cheaper to replace the parts as on the Arrma one. Nearly all parts on the X-Maxx is made out of plastic thats why this this is lighter and more durable and makes the parts cheaper. Its also much easier to work on which i can confirm than the arrma one what i heard. At the end of the day its all about what u wanna do with the truck.
Great comparison - I tend to agree - that the two cannot be compaired. They are awesome in each their own way. XMAXX is a floater, maybe even a drifter on gravel and loose surfaces. Man it can throw some chips and dirt behind it while drifting sideways. Kraton - from 0-fast, it will go so quick you will not notice - and it will be in a straight line. Try turning down AVC and it will get a whole lot funnier. Much smaller doughnuts and controlled jumps will be a side effect - so stabile. XMAXX - turn down TSM and it will take off in an unknown direction letting you test your counter steering abilities within a split second. Much funnier in my opinion - but it is impressive what the Kraton can do acceleration wise.
you can set the suspension on the xmax lower and get wider control arms, and it would behave much like the kraton. But like I said, they are two different trucks.
Great comparison of two same size-ish RC’s. You are right, it doesn’t feel like a direct comparison. 8s Kraton is more like the non-existent 8s EREVO. 😱
I think you nailed it. Kratons are just not bashers in any way shape or form. They are literally track or flat out running alone. XMaxx is more a fun bashing truck.
@@XV3LimpiadorXV3 drive it like an Xmaxx and it will break every time. Drive it like a Maxx and it will break every time. Its just not intended to be truly bashing. If ya do it will bend and break more parts. It’s just not worth it. It’s a race truck that’s just big. They took the ideas from 8th scale buggies and tossed big tires on them.

I could watch bashing vids like this all day, great vid! I have beaten my xmaxx (and my maxx) and broken nothing, my arrmas are not nearly as tough. A modded kraton8s looks like it could be a fun truck!
As an owner of both I think a few things should be emphasized. Kraton Pros: The handling on the Kraton is much better, it feels way way more planted and is tough to get to roll. The Xmaxx rolls easily in turns. In drag racing you have to feather the Xmaxx to keep it from going into a wheelie and losing traction/power/speed and can just hammer the Kraton. On punch 5 on the Kraton this becomes more pronounced. The drivetrain/diffs etc on the stock Kraton is tank like. Way more issues on keeping the Xmaxx planted on four tires in turns and acceleration. Xmaxx: lighter/easier to control in the air stock. If you are looking for stock wheelies obvious choice. Cheaper replacement parts. Superior front bumper. Once you go aftermarket and change pinions or gear either up, stick on a M2C or justbashit chassis for the Kraton and upgrade both of their motors/esc/servos etc then all that remains is the better handling of the Kraton and a superior drive train. However you will have spent more due to the 7075 chassis upgrade. Replacement parts for arms etc is cheaper for the Xmaxx. The stock chassis on the Xmaxx may need replacements. You are good to send it with the 7075 upgrade on the K8s.
Of course you compare them. Do you own both? Their cost is the same. Relatively the same size. Both 8s. Both 4 tires. They are both RC vehicles and so on. In the big scheme of things they are far more similar that disparate. I mean we aren’t trying to compare a robot to an amoeba. When comparing them you are simply listing each of their strengths and weaknesses along with general attributes and which purposes each is suited for out of the box and which uses might need upgrades to be better suited etc.
Lisa M. Buican The list of sucks stick for both is there. I winced when I bought my first one and realized how easy it was to roll the Xmaxx in corners. I quickly relegated it to jumping as I love to flat out rip with RCs and that certainly includes in the turns. However if jumping or wheelies stock only is your thing then the Xmaxx will better suite your taste. If you want big air with a Kraton, which is like 5lbs heavier out or the box than the Xmaxx it’s time to upgrade to 7075, which it will even be more of a beast as the upgraded chassis is heavier. Then you can truly send it and have turned it into an excellent large scale driver/racer and jumper. As I said they both need motor upgrades etc as well to really make the big RCs show off.
I think It's time to put the Cen Colossus XT Reeper in the mix and the tables will turn for both of these vehicles. They will finally become friends as they watch the Cen Colossus take the gold !!!!
I’ve seen a few of those trucks at events. Once broken early the owners either sit and watch, leave or break out the Xmaxx to continue the day. Yours holds up well?
This was a great video. They are not alike. I have them both and love them for different reasons. Also we have to remember, we're in our first version of the K8S. It'll get better. Before you mod the Kraton, put the punch on level 5. It should wheelie better, mine did.
I'm of the same option Joe... they are different trucks and shouldn't be compared to one another. They're big and that's the cool part about 'em. Just been out this afternoon with my son, he drove the Xmaxx and me my monster trucked slash 4x4. We both had big smiles.. Wheelies and back flips are just awesome.. Good times Cheers mate 👍
I have so much fun with the monster slash 4x4. I have an outcast 4s as well as another "normal" slash 4x4 and a 1/10 TLR buggy. But the monster slash always makes me smile. I think because It jumps off curbs well and small jumps it is just fun to drive. And it wheelies on command. My outcast bounces over the curb and gets no air. But with the ground clearence and wheel size it makes the slash a lot of fun on almost any surface. I had to down gear it and add in a couple fans to help keep it cool on 3s. And put some sway bars on it. But once that was done it is one of my favorate RC toys. Took it out just yesterday in the rain. Just dry it good and oil the bearings and spray it down with some wd40 for good measure. I do want to get a dirt protector for it though because it collects grass and dirt every time I take it out like a magnet.
@@gimiked8685 sounds cool bro... mine runs cool because it's doing it easy as I'm running 2000kv 1/8 scale motor and Esc combo with 2.8 17mm hex tyres and tekno driveline. Stupid amount of power just on 3s, and now coz of upgrades hardly ever breaks anything... I have another similar with Vxl 3 system and it gets hot on 3s... As long as you have a smile on your face you are doing it right... Cheers 👍
For me personally I am more of a racer and I just got my first Arrma. A Kraton 4s! So this truck I love. I did have some oil on the slipper clutch, but it has been solid thus far. I do plan on upgrading the a arms to RPMs and I plan on getting aluminum shock bodies. It has been a fun truck for sure. The servo is ok for people who are getting into the hobby, but I need faster steering. I plan to change out the server and saver with something I have laying around. I will be honest, I'm not a big fan of Traxxas but I do like the X-Maxx. I have had more than 10 of their cars and trucks through out the years and I have a E-Maxx right now. It's going on craigslist this weekend. If I was going to spend a $1000 on a RC car, I would get a Mugen Seki 1/8th Truggy kit and put a CC Mamba Monster 2200 KV setup on it. I refuse to pay $1000 for a RTR.
I really enjoyed the video. My son and I will get into this RC Hobby. It looks like Traxxas and Arma are the big dogs in the game. Peace and Love from East Harlem NYC...
I know they're designed for it, but sometimes it pains me when the cars slam into the ground from 10-12 ft high. I don't know if I'll ever get over that.
I got a Arrma Granite which is loads of fun in small spaces. I got myself an xmaxx just a few weeks ago and it’s a great truck, motors over or through just about anything. I think the xmaxx generally looks more fun to drive in most of the videos I’ve watched. Although I would have a Kraton 8s if I had the money but would most likely get a 6s.
I 100% think it depends on your area you play. For me, all tracks within 3 hours are packed clay, and jumps usually 5'-7'. That being said, i feel the arrma with more weight, sticks to track WAY better. For playing close to home (Baseball Fields), they drive about the same on sand dense surface. If you into "Stunts" i dont have a opinion, not my play style. All that being said, have sold all my Traxxas stuff, and parts, and used that money for Kraton 8S upgrades ( 2024 ). For me, not for everyone, this was the best option for MY area.
I've opted for the Talion first, as it was in my local HB, with the plan of getting the XMaxx later in year after I have bought the Fireteam for my eldest boy and the Senton for my middle fella. Should have a pretty good RC stable come end of the year! Thanks for the video, just subbed 😉
Get the losi dbxle 2.0 it just needs 18 tooth pinion and bouble fan on motor, it's not for jumping, but in the dirt dashing around corners it's one of my favorites
Xmaxx for 8s 1/5-6 scale stunts and smaller kraton all day for 6s 1/8 scale stunts. The K8S is a beauty but needs more out of the box to do what an X can. Get the shorter M2C chassis then re compare. The kraton 6s is still king basher in my book. My notorious is less graceful and more twitchy. Arrma is still growing and learning more designs and materials. Excited to see what they offer next. Traxxas needs to update several of their offerings in my opinion and address some weak points pointed out by owners
What an awesome video man, I'm an Arrma man myself and cant go past the 6s versions , this 8s thing was a waste of Arrmas time in my opinion, sorry if ive hurt feelings here but like I said that's my opinion. Xmaxx kicks the k8s arse into oblivion.😉
Saving up to drop a grand and this video really helped.... nope not a bit. Lol. Still torn between both. The only thing that pushes the XMaxx to the top is the ability to get the parts and the fact everyone I have talked to that has one said they beat the ever living crap out of theirs and the only thing they had to replace almost immediately was the steering servo. Other then that it was near indestructible. I'd like to get a chance to drive both before I bought one but I don't think that's gonna happen. Thanks for the video brother.
I agree with your doing the speed tests in the grass. I bothers me to see speed tests done in the street or in a paved parking lot with RCs that are designed for and will most likely be run off-road.

Great comparison def x maxx in general is better unless your just racing imo. I just bought a Mojave but still want a x maxx
How is the Mojave holding up? All I see is great reviews on them being strong fast and very durable.
@@ExocagedRC have had it about a month and haven't used it yet lol. I live in NH still waiting for good weather.
Does the Xmaxx come with battery’s if it doesn’t what battery’s do they need
I agree with everything.. if I was going to only drive on say a bmx track then maybe I’d have a Kraton but for just messing around bashing and just having general fun it’s xmaxx all the way! Both great vehicles though.👍🏻
Great video and showing what I have wanted to see in other videos and never seems to discuss ,,, absolutely great ,,,thanks buddy
I wonder how the Losi Fox DB XL-E 2.0 8S 1/5 compares to these two?
The X-maxx feels more exiting at lower speeds because it flips over easier than the Kraton. And the Kraton looks slower than it is because it is so planted. Both truck will be fun :)
The xmaxx runs very quiet. Much smoother sounding.
Yah the kraton sounds like a jet
@@pugster77 that's just cool
@@pugster77 yeah. Who wants quiet? I got Arrma Kraton 6s with twin fans and the thing sounds like a jet taking off!
Great direct comparison, stock for stock 👍 I found it funny that people keep saying the K8S is slow and the Xmaxx is fast out the box 🤣 38mph is decent stock speed for these big trucks and they are identical.
Yep I hear the same thing. This showed they are the same speed box stock.
I'm saving for the redx xmaxx love that truck..looking forward to your mods..great comparison..thanks..

Mmmmmm a 1/5 scale, 8s.. E-Revo
I think you nailed it. Kratons are just not bashers in any way shape or form. They are literally track or flat out running alone. XMaxx is more a fun bashing truck.
LoL huh?
Look up Rich Duperbash or RCDUDE81 and tell me they aren’t bashers 😂...
You just have to KNOW HOW TO DRIVE THEM.
@@XV3LimpiadorXV3 lol watched one of his vids and he broke the Kraton in multiple places and his Kronos lol. I guess he proved your point jumping off those small ramps how durable they are lol.
thats the best comparison video yet so far I've seen thanks for making my decision easy. XMAXX
I’m not a Traxxas fanboy and even though I like metal in my RC’s I think I’d pick the XMaxx
Not sure why you had to specify you weren't a traxxas fanboy lol..
ISEE YOU Yeah, exactly. I think the whole brand loyalty isn’t as nuts as it was 10yrs ago. I think people are more open to trying different brands. I think competition is good. That shows given that Axial and Redcat are making their plastics more Traxxas-ish

They are both fun, to me it seems like it comes down to driving preference.
Love my armma' s! but really dig my x Maxx! Excellent comparison! Agreed their two totally different beast!
I use to drive team associated in Jr high..
Bought a kraton 4s. Had it for a year and it always needed something to be fixed.
Just sold it
What truck are you running now? I'm currently bashing a Mojave V2.
@@surfside75 motorized skates and cats might be cool
Ummmm... It's late but😐 -👍😂🍻
I could watch bashing vids like this all day, great vid!
You cant compare them like that as they are totally different vehicles
Of course you compare them. Do you own both? Their cost is the same. Relatively the same size. Both 8s. Both 4 tires. They are both RC vehicles and so on. In the big scheme of things they are far more similar that disparate.
I mean we aren’t trying to compare a robot to an amoeba. When comparing them you are simply listing each of their strengths and weaknesses along with general attributes and which purposes each is suited for out of the box and which uses might need upgrades to be better suited etc.
The Kratons chassis suck I bent it in 2 hours after buying lol x max I have had for about 2 years never bent it
Could the push on the Kraton be the servo saver? Could it be tightened to prevent the understeer?
I think It's time to put the Cen Colossus XT Reeper in the mix and the tables will turn for both of these vehicles. They will finally become friends as they watch the Cen Colossus take the gold !!!!
I’ve seen a few of those trucks at events. Once broken early the owners either sit and watch, leave or break out the Xmaxx to continue the day. Yours holds up well?
@@ExocagedRC So far so good !!!!
This was a great video. They are not alike. I have them both and love them for different reasons. Also we have to remember, we're in our first version of the K8S. It'll get better. Before you mod the Kraton, put the punch on level 5. It should wheelie better, mine did.
its been on 5 for several drives, no wheelies. no big deal, it has a whole new power system in it now. hope to record it tomorrow.
@@ExocagedRC I have that same castle combo in mine with the 46 tooth pinion 😮IT IS INSANELY POWERFUL/FAST👍🏿 Ordered another for my xMaxx🙏🏾
I got both of these babies on my wish list.
Great review and comparison
That looks just like a little town I know called Watertown. Nice comparison video.
I love my xmaxx
I'm of the same option Joe... they are different trucks and shouldn't be compared to one another. They're big and that's the cool part about 'em.
Just been out this afternoon with my son, he drove the Xmaxx and me my monster trucked slash 4x4. We both had big smiles.. Wheelies and back flips are just awesome.. Good times
Cheers mate 👍
Nice comparison i am loving having an xmaxx never drove a kraton 8s👍
The best comparison vid there is, thank you!
Now i wand a xmaxx!
Glad you liked it!
Hell yeah bro Omega Park I live in the burg to just now getting into rc myself.
Awesome and YEP!!! You'll have to join us for a crawl at the Exoplex or a bash event.
Send me more information I would love to come out
I like that you called the kraton a truggie, to me Xmaxx is pretty tough.
Awesome testing
Thanks! Yeah they are not the same.
I own a kraton 8s and I put a set of mad max giant grip tires on and they make a huge difference. Stock tires are very spongy and easily balloon.
On my Kraton 6s I put million weight oil in the center diff. That allows more power to go to the rear diff to help bring the back end around.
I really enjoyed the video. My son and I will get into this RC Hobby. It looks like Traxxas and Arma are the big dogs in the game. Peace and Love from East Harlem NYC...
Awesome, glad to have you guys.
I know they're designed for it, but sometimes it pains me when the cars slam into the ground from 10-12 ft high. I don't know if I'll ever get over that.
Yeah that can break stuff. Flat landings are the loudest but those usually don’t break things.
The Xmaxx is awesome for sure but a whole different beast than the K8s is.
Just got the orange xmaxx what should I do first please
Drive it, have fun with it, then get some power in there.
Yeah when it comes to serious racing the K8s has more to offer. I’ve never actually serious raced either, just here with my buddies.
Based on your little demo, I think I'll stick with the X-Maxx. Unless I feel like racing around some flat grass. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for helping make my mind up , definitely Arrma Kraton for me.
Metal base on Arrma more durable than the X maxx.
He'll find out
After this video I think I should order a tri-axle of dirt and an Xmas. Great video!
I kind of agree, I'm going to try to polish this thing a bit and hope for the best
It's not a comparison or a competition. Compares literally everything about the two and has a contest.
😂 relax. I’m showing the differences and that they aren’t the same.
@@ExocagedRC lol just poking a little fun😂 good video tho. I enjoyed it👍
Saving up to drop a grand and this video really helped.... nope not a bit.
Have U bought one yet?
Hard to pick. I love low cog but xmaxx is much lighter. I would pick xmaxx all day if it has newly designed low cg chassis. i like truggy feel.
These are great fun to build one monster truck One race truck
I have both and I prefer the X Maxx hands down
I wonder what traxxas will come out with next. I want a xmaxx as I have a 6s but I want to see if they bring something out soon
I have both and love both of them. Just get both of them 🤣👍
I have the xmaxx but I want the k8s next how can I ensure I'm getting the updated version?
Xmax kicks ass . Agree with you on the xmax . I've had one two years now . With not much trouble . Xmax is no. one
I agree with your doing the speed tests in the grass. I bothers me to see speed tests done in the street or in a paved parking lot with RCs that are designed for and will most likely be run off-road.
^this👍🏿
Thank you for your very good time.
I'll come back to see you again.
Love the video and currently trying to get a xmaxxx😂
Best review video I could find on these 2, keep up the good work
Thanks for the comparison I like to neighborhood rc race and I think I'm going to get the Kraton 8s

Thumbs up on the X Max for the most part over all, & price as well
Let's get a drag race with these monsters!
Awesome video! More please... 😊👍🏼
So with that motor and ESC in your hands, would that make the truck faster? Thank you.
Do you vent your tires on the kraton & XMaxx

LOL the Xmaxx is all fun
@@ExocagedRC ha ha. its totally certified by you! Sadly no shipping to India i can't have fun like you......... enjoy your time with xmaxxx bro hav a good day
I think your right I think the xmaxx vs Kraton the xmaxx all day but I would rather have a Mini maxx than a xmaxx so for me since I already have a mini maxx next is a Kraton 8s exb for me the system and the setup should go around 60mph
Which one is best like longer running and more faster mph?
Nice Video i have the xmaxx its very nice truck but the kraton look great also
I believe the Traxxas off the shelf brand new out the box is the tougher of the two you pay more for it but it lasts longer without having to upgrade
Nice review. I really want an XMaxx. I have the Kraton 8s EXB and enjoy it but I think the XMaxx would be more fun.
Damn man and i am here with an xmaxx wanting a K8s exb. I have not driven a k8s yet i just think and hope i would like the kraton at least as much as i like my xmaxx
@@Ready-Set-WORK I guess it’s the grass is always greener syndrome. I love my Kraton. I just want to drive an Xmaxx though never driven one
If you gear up the xmaxx it's a completely different animal. I run 47/22 and its amazing. But you already know that. BASHER > RACER. I don't care for the Arrma at all compared to the Xmaxx
I was in the do I buy a kraton 8s or dbxle 2.0. I bought the losi. I have a few xmaxx too. I think you are spot on. Great video.
I want the DBXLE 2.0 too. However I may end up with something else. Time will tell
