Kid Icaurs is about as accurate to Greek mythology as Disney's Hercules, and I mean that in the best way. So yes, there's a whole three chapters of the game where the main plot gets derailed to deal with an alien invasion of all things. This game is indeed underrated, but has a huge cult following. That's in part due to being trapped on the 3DS, and in part because its main control scheme has a learning curve, to say the least. Two things that can be easily solved with a Switch port. It's in Smash mainly because the main developer included it as an "obscure pick" back in Brawl, then decided he wanted to make his own Kid Icarus game which became Uprising. But in any case, I'm glad you're getting to hear more of its soundtrack.
If the game ever gets remastered for the switch (or I guess switch 2 at this point) then this would be my #1 recommendation for him to play, I think he’s have a blast with it
Aurum Island is by Yuzo Koshiro of Streets of Rage, Etrian Odyssey, and Wangan Midnight fame, and Boss Battle 1 is by Yasunori Mitsuda of CHRONO TRIGGER/CHRONO CROSS fame! this game is absolutely amazing as long as you get used to its fucky control scheme I cannot recommend it enough if you ever get a Nintendo 3DS
Kid Icarus has three games. One for the NES, one for the GameBoy, and then Uprising. What this game did to the franchise, to their characters... It basically carries the entire franchise. Since 2012.
Two great, GREAT picks. KIU is so freakin' nuts, dude. The game was directed by Masahiro Sakurai, so it may have been one of those cases of a bunch of great creatives coming together under a big name to make something AMAZING, kinda like season 1 of One Punch Man. The boss battle theme played at the end of every level and was SOOOO FUN because hearing that triumphant string part was designed to be a reward if you survived the fight at an intense difficult, which was veeeery hard to do at the highest difficulty. If you weren't skilled enough, you wouldn't last to hear it, and if you did, it would be a big boost. Very exhilarating. Super good game design, amazing game, needs to come back. Also you're right, the game got big backlash when it came out due to the touch screen being a requirement to play along with the L button being your attack button. It even came with a stand to play it on lol very divisive, but the people who could enjoy it absolutely LOVED it, like myself.
I was one of the requesters of Aurum Island! I'm so happy you reacted to it! It's such a catchy song, and so different from all of the other songs in the OST. It's always really grabbed me with how much it stands out!
Aurum Island theme makes me CRAZYYYYYY!!! We need more songs like this in games, the sexy brassline is so unnecessary and yet so incredible. Absolutely my favorite song on the soundtrack. Edit to say, the game and soundtrack both are so crazily underrated, yes. It's very ignored and yet was one of the best games/OSTs on the 3DS.
I think the soundtrack is so great because the game was directed by Sakurai and he was able to get together some awesome composers, calling in favors of people he worked with on Smash Bros.
It should be a crime that this game is stuck on the 3DS. The OST is one of those that you never know what the next track is going to sound like or what genre it will be but it's all fantastic. Aurum Island "smells like smoke" is a very good description lol. It sounds like the song they'd play in an Ocean's 11 movie when they're going over their master plan for the big heist. Boss battle 1 is one of my favorite boss battle songs ever. It really set the expectations for the music for the rest of the game. It reminds me of something ACE would compose for Xenoblade Chronicles, but this is one of the tracks composed by Yasunori Mitsuda.
i've always felt the boss theme is kinda divided in two: the first part with the electric guitars representing the threat of the demons of the underworld, and the second part with the wind chimes, brass and swelling strings being you, an angel, overcoming the forces of darkness.
The soundtrack used to be talked about a lot. But the game came out in March 2012, that's almost 13 years ago by now on a system that practically died in 2017 when the Switch released and that's the last time a game released in the franchise.
4:15 I am in FULL agreement on this statement here. Uprising in general just doesn’t seem to generate much discourse, somehow, despite selling rather well. Though admittedly, the series just barely gets games at all in spite of everything. But I, for one, am just about ready to beg Nintendo for another game in this style, or a rerelease of Uprising of some kind. If we can get Sakurai on it again, that'd be great, but at the same time, I don’t want this series to be fully dependent on him being involved in it, given how often Smash Bros demands his time over the years... Anyway, Boss Battle 1 being kinda simple honestly fits the game all the more, if anything. It's kind of a Sakurai staple to make the most of simplicity, given this is the guy who created Kirby and Smash Bros. Maybe it's bold for a layman like myself to say, but I wouldn't be surprised if this was a deliberate choice for what is the standard boss theme that you'll hear some ~25 times in a straight playthrough? 14:05 I don't even know how to express how relatable this is to me.
If that Boss Themed Video has no Origami King or Thousand Year Door Remake Boss themes then it is a fraud list. Kidding but seriously, almost all Boss themes from those games are S Tier

You're right about it being underrated. The control scheme meant it lived and died on the 3DS until we get a port. A much needed port, at that.

MITSUDA! Also of Xenoblade fame ;p

@@alejandrotti10 actually the second one was on the original Game Boy, not GBA

Yo! These are two of my favorite songs from one of my favorite games/soundtracks ever! So glad you get to hear these!
Two the best songs on the soundtrack

As the other requester of that song I gotta say, you have an amazing taste :3

i was waiting for an aurum alley reaction
"This song sounds like a casino." Or maybe a...beehive? Lol Oh this game was GOLDEN!

These songs are so fire, i love this game
This game was magical
So are you.
Instant like. We need more Kid Icarus Uprising. Fantastic game.
Honestly this entire soundtrack slaps, I can’t think of a single bad song from the entire game off the top of my head
When the Dog's theme is a banger, you know you have a masterpiece OST on your hands.
This was one of my favorite 3DS games. That portable was such a wonderful machine and it giving us this was one of life's greatest joys.
Woahhh, I finished playing KIU literally last week, Aurum Island is such a bop
The sound track is incredible
Theme of fighting aliens while being ridiculed by the entire Greek pantheon
That Boss Theme is like Inazuma Eleven Chrono Stones, like A LOT. Yasunori Mitsuda's songs are just great
WHY DO YOU ALWAYS DO THE SONGS I WANT YOU TO REACT WITHOUT EVEN SAY ANYTHING? LIKE U READ MY MIND OMG
It's wild that of all the games Nintendo is porting to Switch, somehow they decided Kid Icarus Uprising should stay on the 3DS.
Omg please do more of kid ikarus

Oh yeah if this game is underrated the soundtrack is WAY to underrated, destroyed skyworld? Oof
