At the moment when Tchaikovsky wrote the Pique Dame, the russian high society spoke French, and barely new russian language, so even when they spoke russian, they had a heavy accent. So Sondra is very very Lisa by Tchaikovsky's time, I would say with a very light accent because I understand every single word. And the way she sings, no one, even the best one recorded in the past was not able to achieve her pianissimo. It's pure genius.
@@VICTORIYA-THEATER-FAN By pure coincidence, I had a language coaching session with Radvanovsky's Russian coach around the time when she was preparing Pique Dame for the first time. I remember the coach saying that Rad's Russian was quite good, probably due to its proximity to Czech.
Her russian was great. To be honest, since russian is my primary language, her russian was better than many russian speaking singers can do (most of the time I done understand a single word they were singing). I see some comments, not in my RUclips where they blame her for pronunciation. It’s a lie. I guess it’s just an anger that American soprano song russian Lisa. Anyway, I’m happy that she does it because it’s a very hard role and she was able to make it better than any recordings I heard before her. The production is bad, but she plays what the director wants her to play. Happened to be she is not only a great singer but also an amazing actress.
@@VICTORIYA-THEATER-FAN I think the criticisms of her diction pertain mainly to her Italian. They are probably well-merited, as her diction is not really forward, and her vowels, sometimes radically modified. But I can see why her approach would fit Russian well. I doubt most people on RUclips who criticize her Russian diction know what they are talking about. Russian is not as well-known as some of the other languages.
