    Il be honest.
I personally think the dark Gothic witchyness elements in metal rock is more of a pre Christian pagan element that is left over. . Pagan religion are not about the devil. Though there are devil' worship. I think the dark origin is pagan. All the The screaming and growling in rock. The close relationship to death. Even a visitor to a viking villages described there music to growling dogs. Lol. The symbols and pentagrams are pre Christian. The 🤘 symbol is pre Christian too. The Norse called it Algiz. The lord if the Forest.
The Gothic revival started centuries ago when people started painting and writing poems down about there pagan past. Boewolf is a Germanic mode poem that survived.
Then you had Gothic revival in music. When you get to classical music you people like Bach and Chopin. Bach is the first to start shredding the piano and violin. Bach and Chopin played dark Gothic sounding music. The first metal head's. Lol.
Listen to Chopin's The Devil's Thrill
Moder Rock artist took Victorian, medieval and pagan elements to create Goths style. Christian are trained to see devil's and demons.
A lot of rock bands study classical music and the dark style to get better at there rifts. 😊 Even I study Bachs inventions to get faster at piano and i can hear them a lot in Rock. 😊
