When Iam went to Hawaii for his homecoming piece, a local artist designed the art on that guitar for him. The artists name is Sam Mangakahia. Iam's name is on the headstock, between the tuning pegs. All of the other designs are representation of Iams heritage and life, for example the turquoise is representing the water around Hawaii. Rodney's name is placed around the soundhole so that everytime Iam strums, he is reminded of his father. Very meaningful. The artist only 'hoped' the guitar would at least make an appearance on the show, but little did he know that Iam would use for his visualizer video.
I noticed too that they put his dad's name on it and banners. I'm so happy for him. He made me cry from the first audition to almost all of his songs that he sang. The one that he sings with James Blount "Monsters" made me bawl my eyes out. This top 1 on the chart also made me cry. He is so good. There's a video of the guy who made this guitar for Iam. Iam touched my very soul from his audition…I lost my youngest son and I could feel the pain that Iam was expressing and the love he had for his dad and he touched all of who has expirenced loss and many of us have and Iam just brings you a soothing deep in your soul and he is beautiful young man and it was wonderful to watch his journey and I hope we hear beautiful music from him in the future!!

Iam is using a different guitar. This guitar was customized for him by a artist from New Zealand (I’m guessing he is Māori?. You can find the clip of this artist making the design and presenting it to Iam when Iam came back home to Hawaii
