  • SMH!! I originally posted the wrong video! Here is The correct video (no wonder I only have 300 subscribers!!).
    I’ve had my 2021 Zero S electric motorcycle for over a year now. It’s my first street bike. What is it really like to own an electric motorcycle? How far can it go? Is it a good beginner bike? What about short motorcycle riders? Or small female riders?
    What and who are electric motorcycles good for anyway?
    I hope to answer those questions today!

    On my 13.4kwh battery, I get maybe 70-80 miles around town (doing 40-60mph), I think my problem is that I floor it everytime I'm first at a redlight as it's too much fun. I've had so many instances of loud cruisers sneaking up on me because even with how loud they are, the exhaust points the other way, so I won't hear them even on my quieter bike until they're basically right next to me, so the whole loud pipes saves lives thing isn't a thing at all. Glad to see you back making videos :)

    • @lolaleslie66
      @lolaleslie66  2 года назад +1

      I’ve had the same experience with not “hearing” the loudest of pipes. I find that if I do need to make myself known, I can always hit the horn.

    I have a 2018 Zero SR (with the 14.4 battery). I'm 6'-4" and 235lbs. Zero, and all current electric bikes, are 100% "city only" bikes. I get 140 miles in pure city driving. I can get 70 miles on the freeway. But, if I go 70 miles on the freeway and drain the battery to 5% - it takes 4 hours to charge (I have the charge tank, so I can use level 2 chargers). So, I never ever take the bike outside my city limits. But there is no better bike for me, as I only ride in the city. (I used to own a Triumph Thunderbird 1600cc cruiser, and before that a 1700cc Yamaha warrior - my days of touring are in the past). But god dam, in the city the Zero is unbeatable. It is super manuverable, you don't have to shift, and you can hear everything around you. If you are looking for a commuter bike, you will not beat a Zero (if your work is withing the range limits). My hot tip is to buy one used. I picked mine up for $10k. It was less than a year old, and only had 1900 miles on it. To say it was 'like new' would be an understatement. I've had it now for 4 years. I too have local free electrical charging, so I've never actually paid any money to charge it. Thing is, it will never ever wear out. Because of the regenerative braking (and that I'm not tracking it), I barely use the actual brakes. Maybe someday I'll have to change the brake fluid.. Maybe someday I'll have to get new tires.
    -
    Eventually battery capacity, battery weight, and charging times for motorcycles will get to the point where your electric bike will be able to go 200-250 miles on the freeway, and charge times will be under 30 minutes. Until then, if you ride long rides, get a bike with a gastank. BUT, like I said above, if you just need something to zip around town, an electric is THE way to go...

    • @lolaleslie66
      @lolaleslie66  10 месяцев назад +1

      I agree---it is THE best city/commuter bike for sure. It's so clean you can keep it inside your apartment (lol). I ended up getting a Honda CTX700N a few months after moving out to the mountains. Looking forward to the day there are more electric options and more charging stations!

    Great vid and insight! Really thinking of getting a Zero S 2022-23 model, but still not sure if it would have traction control or not. Quite apprehensive about riding something super torquey without traction control hehe.

    • @lolaleslie66
      @lolaleslie66  9 месяцев назад +1

      You can bring the torque down to 0% on the app and slowly ramp it up until you get used to it too, which is nice! I do recommend this bike for the city though.

    Great vid. Very informative. Have a few electric "bikes" low and high end. I consider them as "toys" /for fun aaand thats about it. Not for serious rides. Unfortunately electric motorcycles are not at the point they need to be/yet that is. As to not make this to long ill sum it up with one statement; ENERGY DENSITY. Gas is at a whole dif lvl, and with motorcycles you would need to add so much weight to take it to a acceptable lvl that as you discuss. A 1000lb bike just dosen't "work". Cars ,yes a 4000lb Tesla "works" but not in this form factor. On a brighter note, its just a matter of time, the energy density will increase in battery's, and it will be "all good" down the road.....sooner or later that is. Thanks for the vid, great stuff -Cheers

      Yes I’m getting a Honda ctx700 because it’s one of maybe four bikes I can get both feet down!
      The others are the Honda Rebel 300, Suzuki boulevard s40 or the Yamaha VStar. None are really practical at highway speeds.
      The CTX is really the most comfortable and has the most power.
      The Rebel 500 and 1100 weren’t really comfortable as far as the seating position.
      I also thought about a Royal Enfield but they are so top heavy, I couldn’t get the 650s off the kickstand.
      My dream bike is the triumph speed twin, but it’s just too expensive right now, and would be expensive to insure.
      So, I’m on the lookout for a used Honda CTX700N preferably the DCT version in black. 😁

      The sr has a lot more power and torque. In Europe you can get the S with 14.4 kWh. That gives you double the range since the engine is almost the same.

      Lol It’s bc the first 8 months I couldn’t leave the parking lot bc I learned to ride in Los Angeles.
      This video is from the point of view of a first - time motorcycle owner ever.
      But really it is bc this was my first street bike ever and spent more time than most weaving in and out of cones in traffic
      Then it was bc of the range! I couldn’t go more than 35 miles in one direction now that I moved to the Sierras
      Now I’m pushing 5-8k
      a year on my Honda. There aren’t enough charging stations to get to Lake Tahoe or Yosemite on a 7.2
