As someone who's a major Dust Man fan, I remember seeing the thumbnail and video title and I was about to go full defense mode bringing up every stage I'd consider worse then Dust Man's stage...
And then I remembered MegaMan III exists.
    Yeah that level sucks 100%

To be honest, Dive Man's stage in MMIII was rather annoying too, but I could not imagine what they were thinking with Dust Man's. The incredibly extended length that adds to tedium, REQUIRED utility usage despite not being a Wily stage, tons of pixel perfect jumps, stingy checkpoints, surprise moments, instant death everywhere, and not a single ounce of fun being had.

Oh, man, I forgot about how obnoxious Dust Man's stage in Mega Man III can get! I feel like every Game Boy Mega Man has at least one stage with really tough pixel-perfect jumps or just sadistic enemy/obstacle placement.
I think a large part of it is screen crunch on the Game Boy games. The NES and SNES Mega Man games can get hard, but you aren't in as cramped a space for moving and jumping.

    • @Dj.D25
      @Dj.D25 2 года назад +2

One reason why I enjoyed the Game Boy Mega Man games was because usually the enemy placement or obstacles were sometimes sadistic and more creative than the NES games. Some enemies that weren't that threatening on NES, were more dangerous on Game Boy because of where they were placed or the level layout made them more difficult to fight.
Except for Mega Man 2 on Game Boy since that game was way too easy and too short and the team that developed it didn't really know what they were doing really.

I have just played the game for the first time some days ago.
With the exception of a very precise jump moment in both Snake Man's and Spark Man's stage, I was having a good time. But then the Mega Man 4 stages were unlocked, and decided to pick Dust Man's stage first.
    Worst mistake.
I lost count how many Game Overs I got here, to the point where I said: "F**k dignity, and f**k honor", and started using Save States to my heart's content just to finish the stage.
I thought Dust Man's stage was the only "bad" one of the second half of the game, but boy oh boy was I wrong.
Dive Man's and Drill Man's stage were just as bad in my opinion... Although, Skull Man's stage was just ok.

This single stage took me over 1 hour to beat, plus i was using an emulator on my phone for this game (The emulator also did not support save states) so i had to go through all of this legit with TOUCH CONTROLS. I almost threw my phone at the wall at one point because i made it to Dust Man but got a game over when he killed me because i had zero lives, so i had to do it all over again.

  • @Dj.D25

Kind of agree. Mega Man 3 for Game Boy, even though I had fun with it, it has a lot of tricky jumps compared to most other Mega Man games. Most of the stages have a tricky jump of some kind. Too many jumps where you have to jump from the very edge or deal with a low celling. And I do remember Dust Man's stage giving me a lot of trouble compared to the rest of the game, like the game describes.
I'll admit, the reasons I like the Game Boy version of Dust Man's stage is because at least its more of a challenge than the NES version with the enemy placement and even has more detailed graphics.

Can absolutely agree with this take, it's very poor for a mega man stage particularly with the pixel perfect jumps and forced usage of a rush is horrible for a non-wily level but could be way worse, I still believe Mega Man World 2 is overall weaker in comparison to World 3 even with this stage in the game. But tbh I'd rather play this stage than most of the stages from Mega Man & Bass as well as all of the stages in its sequel on the Wonderswan and especially the DOS games because they're so awful, the two absolute worst games I have ever played.

hey i played that level yesterday and it was great, i feel like it introduces it's mechanics really well unlike the original, which had like 3 sections at best and none of them had challenge nor anything that teaches the player, just like most of 4's stages. it's better to have Up'n'Downs as an actual challenge that forces the player to think rather than just have them appear once without any warning in the first section and then disappear forever until the bland fortress stages. the crusher being long, again, is a bit meh, but as long as you master it, it's actually neat, which is far better than again, have the crusher appear once and you never return to it again, while everyting afterwards can be barely considered a level at all (those red blocks are some of the most wasted gimmicks in the entire series) and while you do have a point that it's usually 1 or 2 hard sections and then mostly fodder, i prefer the Elec Man approach, which is what the World games (imo far superior to every single NES MM game, including 1, which is the best of the NES ones) seem to prefer aswell. Dust Man is definitely not 3's highest point, because Dive Man and Skull Man do what Dust Man aims to do but way better and completely annihilate their downright garbage original stages (Skull Man is my least favorite classic stage, and would have been my least favorite stage in the franchise if it wasn't for X8's Gigavolt Man-o-War and Optic Sunflower) while the final Wily Stage is one of my personal favorites of them all, but i really don't agree that the worst classic stage is Dust Man from World 3.
but hey, opinions are opinions and your video was pretty well-done, so respect for that.

@@marcusbullock630 I don’t hate 8 (In fact, I’d say it’s probably at least an 8/10), but in terms of Mega Man, it doesn’t really appeal to my tastes. The level design tends to be less creative than some others (Astro Man’s stage sticks out particularly in my mind), and a lot of areas like the Wily 1 Castle are just flat-out not fun. It also feels a bit slower than other Mega Man games, so the pacing can drag on. That’s not to say there aren’t things I like about it. The bolt system is actually my favorite bolt system of every Mega Man game, and I like how a lot of the special weapons have secondary uses other than combat (something I think 9 took heavy inspiration from). But all in all, I’d say 8 along with 1 and World 3 are the only Classic Games I don’t replay that often
