    The ones that visit our house are very territorial and defend their feeder. This is amazing! It’s 30 below windchill in Minnesota today. Wish I could be at your house with a cup of coffee watching them!

      Are there troughs for the sugar water to fill? Most hummingbird feeders have the little flower hole openings with only 4 openings to a feeder but obviously these feeders allow many birds to sit and access the sugar water. How?

      Can somebody send additional feeders, or doesn’t that work due to some circumstances. I am now up to about 25 feeders certain times of the year. I don’t enjoy the extra work but can’t help but accommodate the needs of these amazing little birds who seem to fight for survival their entire life span.

    I'm in Tucson, where we used to see Rufous hummingbirds often, but for the past 15 years or so, I've seen almost none here and I wondered where they'd gone. It seems they've decided to live in Studio City. 😄

    • @HummingbirdSpot
      @HummingbirdSpot  8 месяцев назад +7

      Actually, these are Allen's Hummingbirds. They do look like Rufous. We get a few Rufous here during their Spring northern migration every year. You can spot the males because usually their backs are completely rufous with no green.

      I've got a Broad-Billed in my yard now that dashes up to me like a puppy each time I go outside. I bought some hand-held feeders, and sure enough, that's what he wanted. Love these little guys! @@HummingbirdSpot

      same here, except when I put a few drops of white rum in the water. After a while she gets "sociable" enough to let others in, and there'll be 6 or 8 of them at a time. I call it "happy hour" Sometimes they get crocked and will dive bomb me if I come near the feeder

    I don't know how you do it. It doesn't matter how many feeders I put up, two or a hundred, one resident hummingbird is extremely territorial and wants them all and drives all others away. It's just a nonstop aerial dogfight over the feeders. It was so stressful that I took them all down.

    • @HummingbirdSpot
      @HummingbirdSpot  8 месяцев назад +3

      I have been feeding them here for twelve years. They have just learned that there is plenty of food for everyone. They fight all the time out there, but their territories have now seemed to narrow down to one port on one feeder. And they will fight over that one port with birds all around the rest of the feeder. Crazy!

    • @HummingbirdSpot
      @HummingbirdSpot  8 месяцев назад +1

      If you can, put your three feeders in a straight line at least 10-12 feet apart. It will make it harder for one bird to dominate all three. Also somehow put a perch near one of the outside feeders. The bully bird might decide to use it to stay close to a feeder and that will also make it easier for other hummers to steal drinks from the feeder furthest from him.
