Thanks for the review! I'm glad there's some incremental improvements between the models, and dark levels are really different, even in the video. I wonder how Kindle Colorsoft will look.
Thanks for the video! As soon as you are able - could you please compare the contrast and also speed for UI and page turns vs. the Colorsoft? I'm really curious how the b&w and speed compares between the two new devices....
Was waiting for your review since you really do a great comparison. ❤Agreed the recent software update made them closer in speed, but I do appreciate the contrast difference. Thanks!!
Thank you for the comparison, and especially for highlighting the difference in contrast. For me, better contrast is the only reason to choose the 12th-gen. How does it compare to the Cobo Clara BW?
See my Kobo Clara BW comparison video. The one I had had worse contrast than the Clara 2E that came before it. That's why I was suspicious of Amazon's claim of better contrast on the PW6, because Kobo's claim was not true with the Clara BW.
I recently moved to Clara BW after being in kindle camp for years. Have had Voyage, PW3, PW5, Oasis. My quest for finding as good screen as of Voyage/if not better, has ended. Couldn't be happier. Clara BW has a GOD tier display (probably best display ever put in ereader) which will never be matched by paperwhite series unfortunately (doesnt matter what eink model they use) unless they go for recessed screen or atleast microetched glass, which doesn't seem like happening ever.
@@harrypotter416267Clara bw definitely has best screen. But after spending few days comparing Clara bw side by side with pw 2024. I found that pw had more even lighting and that screen estate and rounded corners make holding much easier and device feels slimmer than both Clara bw and pw 2021. I think at end of day both are amazing devices but for me screen estate and better lighting are worth the slight difference in contrast.
It will never be unfortunately. Voyage had microetched glass, while paperwhite has plastic for flush screen. That is the determinant handicapping the contrast, clarity and crispness.
This video doesn't do justice. I recommend go check the new one out in real life. It's a noticeable upgrade. The contrast is significantly better on the new one. The white background looks a lot more natural resembling paper. hence more pleasant to read. If the device gives you joy to use, you'll read more.
I would have changed it from my PW5 if it had a metalic back, not the rubbery one(like oasis). Rubbery back is nice to hold, but it gets dirty toooo easily. Thanks for the review!
How is the battery life? I upgraded from an old PW and so far battery seems to die much quicker. Definitely not 12 weeks of 30m reading with light at 13/24 but I hope it was just a first week thing. Otherwise, loving it so far.
This is my first Kindle and it lost 25% battery in the first 24h of use. I’ve read quite a bit, and it had to load some books, and I also played with the settings etc as it’s my first ereader but still, this will definitely not last weeks 😬 Hopefully it was a first 24h thing.
@@Milky63 I got my first Kindle 1 month ago. Loading books and setting it up def drains the battery quite a bit, a very large bit. That said, after that I've only charged it once and I'm currently at 27% battery. I've read roughly 1300 pages. To be precise, "The Way of Kings", 1000 pages and I'm currently half way through "Warbreaker", roughly 300 pages. I'm not English native and use the built-in dictionary quite often. Overall, battery is amazing but the first day shouldn't serve as reference. Mine's a Gen11 one.
@@iamricardosousa That’s helpful and reassuring, thanks! I’m not English native either and I intend to read in english regularly, and I’ll definitely be using the dictionary quite often. I’ve noticed the battery drains slower already. Good job on reading The Way of Kings, I had it in my “to read” list, but there are so many books I want to read, I have to make choices.
@@Milky63 ohh def read "The Way of Kings!" Totally worth it, even if the build up is pretty slow at times. Beautiful world building and once everything is set up and starts falling into their places... what a ride! Adding to that, after "Warbreaker" comes "Words of Radiance" for me, which is Goodreads best rated book of all time. I'm really curious about that one, considering TWoK was already pretty damn good.
@@iamricardosousa I’m usually not a fan of “hard” fantasy or sci-fi but I love “soft” fantasy/sci-fi if that makes sense. Meaning not a whole lot of magic, not too many peoples and races and overall a world I can relate to. But there are universe I love (hello Tolkien 😁, or Robin Hobb). I’ll definitely check out The Way of Kings!
There are things where the new model is def a bit faster, although I would argue it's not 25% faster in any way. Page turning though, after the latest update, is not of those things. I'm quite happy with my Gen11.
It seems new ppw doesn't use carta 1300 because there is not much of different between these 2 devices. I have ppw5, Kobo Clara BW (which using carta 1300) and Boox Page (which using carta 1200), their difference much more noticeable than ppw 6 and ppw5 in this video.
@@andressalasaguilar4896 Not for those that need a pocket sized eink reader it isn't. I can't take my kindle (Paperwhite 11th Gen.) everywhere because of its large size. I need a bag at all times which isn't realistic in my case. A nice 4-5 inch tablet the size of an a6/7 paper is just right 👍
I bought my Paperwhite in 2014. It still works fine and the text is super easy to read, and that's what it's for. The battery only last days instead of weeks but that really isn't a problem - yet. I think it was the original Paperwhite.
Without a side-by-side comparison at home, I think I will happily stick with PW5 and keep that money in my pocket.
Thanks for the review! I'm glad there's some incremental improvements between the models, and dark levels are really different, even in the video. I wonder how Kindle Colorsoft will look.
I like the design of the Oasis more, I think they should make all their devices with that design, shame they discontinued it.
Good to know about the software update improving the page turn speed!
I am gonna stick with my PW5 I got it 2 months ago for $50 from my local Target.
Excellent comparison. Thank you so much. For me, there’s not enough changes to get the new one.
There is hardly a difference between the models.
Yeah I was ready to upgrade from my current 11th thinking of the increase in size, but it hardly seems worth it seeing it
Deeper blacks… brighter screen, faster, more memory bigger screen… I’m in!
Great to see you update again❤ Thanks for the review!
can you compare the contrast of new paperwhite with new basic and new colorsoft. compare the black text and white background
Still worse than my ancient Kindle 4

I did that comparison a while ago after the Libra Colour came out. Check my channel.

Thanks for this great video comparison! Will I wait for Black Friday or any other sale to buy the new Paperwhite? That is THE question!
can you do a basic kindle 11 gen 2022 vs 2024 video too? really curious how the screens compare.

Can you test high intensive pdfs. Ie library book scans, photo book scans. These don’t work on the last gen. Curious if they are working now.
i don't really like the round corners on the screen. the corners on pw5 looks more like a book.
The case from paperwhite 2021 will fit paperwhite 2024? Thank you!
No. The size difference is just enough that old covers won't fit.
Kindle should add reading stats like Kobo.
Wow, it's nothing. I bought a refurb PW5 for $50 a week before the new one came out. Crazy that it would cost me more than 3x the price.
