I read a great quote on my way home from work today, that would apply specifically to my generation of the late baby boomers, but applies to every age. It reminds me that getting back to the basics of self-reliance is key. "Your grandmother survived through the Great Depression because her supply chain was local and she had the skills to do stuff." Not only avoiding the deadly mistakes, but combating them with knowledge, skills, faith and hope is paramount!
I have been filling my pantry since 2021 and I was just picking up extra everything and anything when I could. Now for 2023 I am going to take 1 item ,each month, learn about it in it's entirety and focus on stocking it up. An example would be for March I'm going to focus on water. You have some great videos on the topic that I am going to learn from. I will store water, buy water tablets, build a water filter and learn how to harvest water when it no longer comes from my city tap. April will be home heating. etc. This new focus gives me more confidence that now I will be learning the skills and by keeping busy no need to worry about external factors until I need too. This brings a sense of calm to me.
I have to admit that fear has started to affect me these days. Especially with the balloons in our airways being shot down. Plus I have absolutely no trust in today’s administration. But that’s another discussion. You have made me aware of behaviors to watch out for and take care of. Thank you 🙏
I've included you in my regular prayers that a cure will come along for your MS. You are doing sooo much better than my sister did. But you and Jon obviously have a gift that God needs you here for. Love you guys.
A mistake I made in the beginning was going crazy and buying 1 of everything. Verses being more focused and buying larger quantities of less stuff, but more important stuff.
Wow.... so much to say. Really appreciate what you both are doing to help people. What's prominent in my mind is learning to be self reliant. Not relying on the grocery store for everything. Developing skills.. dehydrating..keeping warm... clean water ...etc. I have deleted and unsubscribed to sites that encourage a doomsday attitude. I am fortunate to feel confident with my health care skills and remedies. Finding a 'community' is the hardest for me AND how to organize all my supplies...
Francine, the "community" thing is next to impossible for me. I'm tired of worrying about it. I know what I have, what I can do. I suggest that you keep going the way you are. My suggestion to a family friend to have two weeks of food on hand was just shocking to her. If I said 1 year, she would have thought I was nuts. So, that went nowhere. It's the same with other friends.
I love your videos and have done for a long time because you're so darn relatable! I'm not Christian although I do have faith. I love that you're able to point to your faith in Jesus but then say "So what's YOUR hope based in?" without the assumption that everyone should be of the same faith as you, and helping people connect their own dots. So thanks for your refreshing and informative content but also thank you for just being the epitome of accepting and caring people. When people say "Oh I'm just going to lock my gates and point guns at anyone that comes by" all I can think is that it would be a very lonely existence and that I'd rather help the people around me to be resilient and prepared instead. You can't do it for every single person, but every one person you help makes the situation better for those around them and that seems far more appealing than pointing a gun at everyone that comes by.
As I read through comments on so many channels, I have noticed that there must be hundreds of people who are single, have no family and no neighbors. Most say they are learning new skills, putting food away etc. That's me. I don't have a community at all. I am so tired of people telling me I need to form a community. I don't have one and will stay that way. I can live about a year with what I have including food, medication, tools, gardening, backups to my stove to continue canning etc. It's nice that so many have their "groups", enjoy the confidence it gives you. I put my trust in my 110 pound dog who sees, hears, smells things so far away that it amazes me.
Glad to hear that you have your hope in Christ Jesus! So many do not, but praying for those that don't seem to have hope is one way to love people unconditionally.
Not practicing was my big mistake in prepping, now I practice once a month living without electricity for a week, doing DIY jobs, etc., Thanks for these tips.👍
I think you guys articulated this perfectly! I think my biggest problem is taking on more than I can physically handle. I struggle with knowing how much time and energy I have to use and have a tendency to overextend myself. Which can occasionally lead to mental and physical burnout. We gotta remember we can’t learn everything and we can’t become completely self sufficient. Comes back to your point about community. 😊 God bless you guys ❤
Amen to all of these! Regarding the “One and done” philosophy, I agree it’s far from ideal but from a good/better/best perspective, I think it’s better than nothing. If that’s the next level that someone is willing take steps on, I’ll support them in that decision. The more “one and done” households there are, the less mouths I have to feed when things get bad.
I wholeheartedly agree with your #7! If you read in Ezekiel- the story of the valley of dry bones- you see that the whole people group died because they were (1) isolated and had (2) lost all hope…(Ezekiel 37:1-14) Thanks for sharing!!
Excellent video and y'all are absolutely correct... Faith, hope and your personal witness of Christ will be the catalyst to make the really ugly and tough times not only bearable, but also will make you more capable of helping establish a foundation of community and support. We all really needed this video today. Thank you.
Good video and good channel. Forty years ago during the height of the Cold War friends and I who were Boy Scout leaders worked toward preparing our Scouts to follow the motto “Be Prepared”. At the time we considered ourselves to be ‘Survivalists’ and spent considerable time, money and effort toward this. These preparations have not been needed however, in spite of some falling by the wayside, I’ve been glad to have them available. Currently we are once again actively preparing. Although we suspect and hope that these preparations may not actually be needed in the next forty years. By then I expect to have lost interest.
One of my biggest problems is not being able to sort everything out in my mind. We prepare for 8-10 people and it's overwhelming when no one takes on any part to gain knowledge/ experience for the benefit of everyone we hope to help. I depend so much on my testimony, sometimes that's all I can do. Thank you for all your thoughtful/ helpful videos. The two of you are a special resource, God Bless.
@@TheProvidentPrepper Bingo ! When you can completely let YOURSELF go and let God take control, as was meant to be, the peace and comfort is overwhelming. Do what you can and let God take care of the rest. Not a free ride. You have to participate, but knowing that you've done all that you can brings peace of mind that is priceless.
The biggest threat I see, is relying on electricity, while that is the first thing that will be attacked and destroyed when SHTF. Look at Ukraine, almost every rocket is aimed at the electric grid. Why? Because without electricity, nothing goes in our modern society. So when I hear preppers talking about electrically powered alarm systems, solar panels and batteries... I have some solar chargeable table lights and that is about it. The rest is mechanical. My number two is fire. An EMP can knock out the electric grid, but can also short circuit electric devices and set them on fire. If you can not put out a fire, your house and all your preppings could go up in flames. Next, you will have to cook with a wood stove. If untested, it can be a risk. Finally, you may come under attack and the attacker might use fire. My number three is failing to arm yourself. Once you have a sound stock of supplies, you have something valuable for which some people might want to kill you. Or when you have a nice wife or a nice daughter in your house... and of course, keep your preppings secret for EVERYBODY. Number four: do NOT solely rely on storing water. No matter how much you store, it will run out very fast. You need a water source; a roof with rain pipes and some rain barrels will do. Number five: do NOT solely store food that has to be processed, like dry rice, dry beans, dry pasta, free dried meals, flour... When the grid goes down, there likely will be not enough energy or water to boil these and make them edible. Better to rely on canned food; once opened you can eat it and it contains moisture as a bonus.
I love watching your videos. I have learned so much. I have been stocking up on odds and ends every pay day. And when we have a little extra money I buy prepper supplies. Found a butane camp stove on clearance at Walmart last week for $19 last week and snatched a few up for emergencies.
My biggest problem is not starting sooner! I can only do so much and I'm afraid that my time is running short. We had a mini-SHTF when our pipes froze last month. I thought I was prepped with enough water for a month. I was wrong! Playing catch-up is not fun. Thanks for the time you take to help the reat of us!❤
Really good ideas/thoughts. One thing I have been working on is making preps and our home elder/disability friendly. Gardening could be difficult if walking/bending is a challenging. Opening doors, faucets, jars with assistance. Snow/ice removal for a walker or wheelchair. And then we’re working on water harvesting and storage.
Alternative Cooking Method Practice: this morning was this week’s meal practice was to cook steel cut oats in a widemouth 16oz thermos with blueberries 🫐 & chopped nuts added in. Last week’s was practice with a friend again with an Trangia style alcohol stove to better control flame for temperature & fuel consumption knowledge. Week before was to practice cooking thinly sliced baby carrots 🥕 in a new “Sun-flair Mini Portable Solar Oven” Santa got me as an end of the year gift to take camping (they came out ok, but holy moly that water got hot & stayed hot enough to cook it!). And the week before that I cooked organic chicken sausage with frozen veggies rescued from bottom of freezer beginning of pandemic stash. Biggest mistake? Not practicing sooner & missing out on all this fun.
So well done! Appreciate your channel so much for your level-headed, logical, less-political, anti-fear and pro-hope approach to prepping. Thank you both!
I wish I could join your bean cooking class! I just got some dry beans, wheat, and oats that, other than the oats, I don't know how to prepare. I've been meaning to message you about this.
@TheProvidentPrepper Yes! I'm working very diligently on building my years' supply of basics for my family of four. I just ordered a case each of dehydrated carrots and onions. The LDS online store is a godsend, but not all inclusive, and they're often out of certain items, like sugar and rice.
Well I am in my 80s and I have learned a ton of stuff I can live with out electricity because had to back in the 40s and no running water in the house we had a out house and we had no phone only a battery powered radio to only use to get news late in the afternoon. No car sure did a lot of walking and guess what all the walking is not used up you can still walk to where you need to be. God bless 🙏 you and yours keep 🙏 praying and keep 🙏 preparing. God is in control 🙏 get up and do what ever you need to get done God will help you but you need to also do your part 🙏
Down here in south Mississippi and all along the Gulf Coast, we have hurricanes. After Katrina, the government and other humanitarian services tried to help. If you had not gathered water and food, had not gassed up the car, etc...There was no getting it. Have things at ready for at least 4 weeks is game changer.
@@TheProvidentPrepper Learned a lot during our 'waking the walk' for a week. Cooked meals on our camp stove and Blackstone, both of which we have never used - we need to practice more LOL. Need to 'plan' our food storage around meals instead of random food in our storage. We are saving $$$ to invest in a small/portable solar panel. Our power did go out for a few hours in during February, and we used our camp stove to boil water in our camp coffee pot to make hot chocolate (I always make a HUGE container each fall), made fried egg, bacon and cheese sandwiches on the Blackstone to eat for breakfast, used our new Buddy heater to keep the chill away, and hubby began to teach me to play chess. Thanks to you, we had 2 small solar chargers in our windows we used for light to get around before we lit our lamps. Baby Steps! Keep on posting and uplifting us!
I am so grateful for your channel! I am working hard to help my family be prepared and your tips help a lot. I watched your series about living off your food storage and it was really inspiring!
Great advice as usual. I take on board what you guys say buying bits and bobs each week. Today I made my final payment on my first solar generator. Now to save up for a bigger system but I want one so I'm determined. My mind set is .. stuff you I will get through this cause I got ready.
Yes, there is so much fear-mongering. But I want to mention health, People need to make sure their dental health is up to date. Imagine a severe, painful, cavity and no dentist available. Get 2 or 3 extra pairs of glasses. Get a physical exam, and EXERCISE!
You guys are amazing ❤️. Thank you for speaking about Hope! What a perfect message for this time, and age. You put tears in my eyes. Many people need to hear more about this, because there is so much fear out there. I love you guys ❤️. Keep speaking about Jesus, the only hope for the world.
Not making meal plans and actually trying them out. I did a four day test once and discovered I had tasty, brightly colored, wonderful foods, at about 900 calories a day. No carbs. I was starving at the end of the four days. I am trying to build a healthier food storage plan with more dehydrated fruits and vegetables and more variety. Also, some Mediterranean and middle eastern recipes for variety and a few Asian noodle bowls.
I was so glad to hear that your hope and purpose is in Jesus Christ. Things will get tougher and it makes a huge difference knowing the Lord is there for us. Thanks for sharing.
Very inspirational, the one thing I have learnt, even though it is hard, be prepared to look at real worse case scenarios, yes they maybe unlikely, I never thought I would divorce, I never thought I would get cancer, I never thought my bank account would get scammed, I never thought prices would sky rocket or we would have a worldwide pandemic. As the saying goes plan for the worse, hope for the best.
So important to have Hope but after that inaction is the worst thing. After a risk assessment and you know the areas you should work on - and then do nothing- everything else falls apart around you
90 days without grocery shopping must have been very eye opening for you. The longest I've gone is 3 weeks. I could've gone much longer but it was an unplanned event (the recent widespread sickness thing) and I still prefer fresh milk and produce. I went through 3 natural disaster events in less than a year which left us without power for about a month total. I'm telling you that no book can prepare you the way that actual experience can. One of the things that surprised me was my desire for comfort food. I didn't think I was a stress eater but now I know I am. Chainsaws enabled us to leave the house, at one point there were 5 large trees over my street alone. Most fatalities were from people making mistakes during clean up. Some fell off rooftops, some touched live powerlines, some poisoned themselves with their generator. I'm just trying to give a picture of things to be very careful and aware of. Also where I live the heat was in th 90s at the time and I found that more difficult to handle than the ice storm with no power. Everything seemed to take more time and effort to accomplish, water had to be heated, we had just enough power to operate small appliances so I cooked in the instapot. We constantly had to bring in wood and tend the fire for the ice storm. So we used lots of extra calories and were exhausted at the end of the day. The more people who can help the better, you'll be stressed, you'll be tired, you'll desire comfort items, once simple tasks become difficult or time consuming, and danger really will be all around you in disaster situations. Being even just a little prepared for various situations will help a whole lot if something happens.
I'm thinking about the once and done people. The biggest problem they encounter is that when it comes time to eat their "survival" foods, they end up getting sick. Their bodies are not accustomed to the food. On the other hand, since our food storage is part of our normal menu planning, we not only keep our "survival" foods rotated, but there is no shock to our systems when the times come that we have to rely on them.
When you have the time, I would appreciate more information on storing gluten free options long term. I don’t believe Masa lasts very long. It seems dry corn is the only long term option. I saw an article on the Azure site about making corn tortillas from corn. It seemed pretty complicated. It has to be done right or it causes a deficiency. Surely there is an easier way. I believe Rosered Homestead also did a video on corn tortillas, but I feel something is missing. If you have time to do some research regarding this, I would appreciate it. You both have a special gift of teaching. Thank you!
Nixtamalization is a traditional preparation process in which dried kernels of corn are cooked and steeped in an alkaline solution, usually water and food grade lime (calcium hydroxide) washed then hulled. The process releases necessary minerals including vitamin B for our bodies. Bob's Red Mill Masa Harina is made using nixtamalized corn.
If you don't have a hand mill you will want to get one, assuming we are grid down. Store rice, beans, lentils, corn and oats. Grind them up and make what you need. It won't be perfect but you will be able to create similar foods to what you are used to. You can even make flax seed tortillas as shown on youtube. If you store the flax in the freezer it would last a long time. Best to you.
@@icecreamladydriver1606Hi, I was recently looking up hand crank grinders on Amazon, the Victrio brand had a few scary reviews of metal filings appearing in ground wheat etc. Still searching
@@patriciacooke886 Good luck. I still need to find one but like you I just am not sure which one to get. Maybe she will read our comments and let us know what she has found to help.
Good video. I think we all need to decide what we are preparing for and stick to that goal. Our goal is to be ready to take care of ourselves for 2 years. Sometimes I have to pull back and remember not to over stock on items beyond what is needed for 2 years.
Your very blessed you have community here in Australia I have just my girls that believe what's happening my friends think I'm overreacting and some think I've lost the plot
One mistake i think is not knowing where stuff is I'm not talking about your supplies I'm talking about were the lakes, ponds, hospitals that you don't normally go to. one time i was just driving down the road to get to a highway and i saw an u.s armory building i never knew it was there before
One mistake preppers make is storing things in large mylar bags. That much food opened at once is meant to feed a army or small amount of people all at once. Try to store them is smaller 1lb or 2 lb. bags and them put them into the 5 lb. bucket. Remember If you don't have to feed more than two or four people a 1 lb. bag is the same that you would buy at the store so the rest of the food will last longer if you take just what you need not the entire bucket.
I have watched many of your videos and I thank you for them. But I thank you so much more for adding HOPE and the Source of your Hope to this video. I knew if was there just from watching your two on videos. I agree so much with you that HOPE is key to survival, key to life. Jesus is the Ultimate Survivalist! Oh ya, He didn't get on UTube, but He left us a good Book. Add that you your top 10 pepper items!
Buying bulk (large quantities) of something I'd never tried. My food bank appreciated it because nobody in the house would eat it. Try a small amount, then buy larger quantities!
Thank you for your channel, I enjoy it , very much, love to educate my mind. Have heard not to cook outside where people can smell it or see a "fire" like an open fire ( campsite ) for example. Because you might have Bad People threaten you for all your food and steal it ? > just for example
Mankind has lived for 100s of years without all of the conveniences we have today. It will take an adjustment period but then you'll figure it out. That's the reason practice is so important - so that we already have it figured out when "it" happens. "stuff" just makes it easier to make the adjustment but it's not necessary for a good life. Travel to some poor country and you'll see that those people don't know they are poor. You can live a comfortable, healthy, happy life without netflix, youtube, tv and cell phones.
My mistake: blindly trusting the medical industry with my health. I have solved many of my health issues and reduced the severity of my autoimmune disease just by doing intermittent fasting and taking probiotics. For your MS, look into the Coimbra Protocol which involves high doses of Vitamin D under physician supervision. Its important to have a basic understanding about nutrition and what bodies need to be healthy instead of getting sick and then finding out what Rxs you will be on to mask the symptoms and then learning what long term side effects they have. Better to learn how to stay healthy in case of major world issues then to wonder what to do when you can't find a doctor.
I am assuming you all are Mormons ( I am not) but I loved Wendy Dewitts video. Do you ever get concerned as Mormon that most of the world believes you have a years worth of storage in your home when in reality the majority of Mormons do not have that. Do you ever feel like a target. I have always prepared because I grew up in Alaska and we went to the store twice a year. Spring and fall. We had a garden but still had to buy things from the store. I do not understand why everyone doesn't prepare for the what if. I know I do not share with many about my food storage so that was the reason for my question about people's perception of what Mormons have.
Sadly no. You would be amazed how few actually have a long term food supply. We run into same problems as everyone else: too little money and not enough storage space. We are probably more ready than regular population. Mormons also believe in the right to self defense.
Nobody talks about how firearms fit into the prepper strategy. You just barely touched on it with your reference to someone using firearms offensively to take what they want/need by force. I would like to see some discussion about having firearms for defensive use and how that fits into fear, community, lack of a functioning government, and hope as far as preparedness goes.
Misinformation is the biggest problem. Take home canning, you have to pressure cook can this or that and it’s only good for a year. My mom water bathed canned everything from apples to tomatoes and it could sit for years before we ate it.
Wow, I've been subscribed to your channel for awhile! I also have Ms. Have you made a video yet on your natural remedies? Have you watched the Netflix video What the Health? There is a lady who also has Ms she changed her diet and pretty much got cured. No dairy and really meat is also bad. Your sister in Christ, Danielle
I love the togetherness. but how do you find like minded people without showing your hand? We are trying to give the kids skills. it scares us that kids now a days have no survival skills. we learned this when we had a no screen day. ( no internet, tv and phone) you would have thought the kids life just ended. they didn't know what to do with themselves.
Yes, Jesus is the number one reason to trust and have faith. We have a future to live somewhere for all eternity. God loves us and we are in His hands! Trust Him and talk to Him about your fears and concerns. He wants you to talk to Him , like your best friend !
Surprised you bashed the Prepper Community by saying they are selling fear. That has not been my experience at all. Most of them are responsible, kind people who are sharing their experience and wisdom in prepping - a lot like you two.
I can tell you after being a federal employee for more than 20 years, please don’t rely on the government. And I’m not only referring to one political party. I mean them all.
I hope to be wrong. Wrong about a nationwide financial collapse, wrong about an EMP or CME destroying our power grid, wrong about well-intentioned idiots wrecking our way of life. I hope that the biggest regret I have on my death bed is wasting my money on preparing instead of vacationing in Hawaii.

God Bless you all!
Thanks for this encouragement. Yeshua is my hope too. God bless you both
I wholeheartedly agree with your #7!
Thank you.
Great video and information. Thank you Jonathan and Kylene. Happy trails!
@@robertd.5479 Sending healing prayers for your little one and warm hugs.🙏
@@retepeyahaled2961 Good advice. Thank you !
Open fire cooking is great....when it's not raining. Better have a plan for if it rains.
I'm not a church goer but I really enjoy your videos, thank-you.
I need to work on my fitness. Making a plan, one step at a time.
Thanks for the time you take to help the reat of us!❤
Do not think of it as playing catch up. It is gaining real life experience.
I guess not having enough water and not having physical protection is what I worry about most. But following you helps me a lot.
Thank you for this video. I pray to be blessed with wisdom to make decisions about being prepared.
Prayers are answered! You got this!
Thank you for your videos!!! Our family is planning on "walking the walk" next week, and making adjustments to our supplies.
You guys hit a lot great points👍🏼. Another is trusting someone who calls themselves a pastor. When they’re just interested in your earthly money😂
Thanks for the encouragement! I have my good days and bad days....just have to keep going in these crazy times!
Love this video and certainly will be taking notes. You guys are awesome, thank you.
So glad I'm not asleep anymore, and I'm trying to learn as much as I can. Thank you for all the information y'all are always putting out for everyone.
you make a great team. i know any info i get on this channel is rock solid. Thank you

You guys are so great, thank you.
@@TheProvidentPrepper thank you for your kind words, I only meant to show expect the unexpected, keep up the good work.
Well thought out and deeply true.

Rose red homestead has some excellent videos on masa and storing corn.
Good video. I think we all need to decide what we are preparing for and stick to that goal. Our goal is to be ready to take care of ourselves for 2 years. Sometimes I have to pull back and remember not to over stock on items beyond what is needed for 2 years.
You 'guys' are the best 👍🏻
Your very blessed you have community here in Australia I have just my girls that believe what's happening my friends think I'm overreacting and some think I've lost the plot
One mistake i think is not knowing where stuff is I'm not talking about your supplies I'm talking about were the lakes, ponds, hospitals that you don't normally go to. one time i was just driving down the road to get to a highway and i saw an u.s armory building i never knew it was there before
Good video , thanks for sharing , God bless !
Always try a brand of canned food before buying extra.. Great Value canned corn is horrible..lol
I also found canned corn is good to about 1 year past its freshness date; after that it is edible but is not tasty at all.
One other mistake you didn't mention is talking about your supplies with strangers / people outside your community.
IMPROPER CANNING PROCESSES
Buying bulk (large quantities) of something I'd never tried. My food bank appreciated it because nobody in the house would eat it. Try a small amount, then buy larger quantities!
I've seen countless preppers living in earthquake zones having their hole storage in high shelves and in glass jars. #NotAGreatPlan
Have you ever looked into Low dose naltrexone. More doctors are now prescribing it for MS and other issues.

For MS fixes and not band aids, explore fasting, photobiomodulation and Hyperbaric Oxygen treatment...
Don't be in denial about power failure. Power stations for refrigerators are the most important to survive.
Thank you for your channel, I enjoy it , very much, love to educate my mind.
Have heard not to cook outside where people can smell it or see a "fire" like an open fire ( campsite ) for example.
Because you might have Bad People threaten you for all your food and steal it ? > just for example
What's the title of your Playlist of the 3 months your family went without trips to the store? edit: Found it - "the No-Shop Challenge"
Cooking outside was cool. I want a smoker.
I would never lose Hope! (BTW, my cat's name is Hope, so LOL)
@@elaineinarizona6354 I also believe in the right to self defense. You worked for what you have and you have the right to protect it.
Amen. For me it’s Jesus Christ also. Faith hope charity

I love the togetherness. but how do you find like minded people without showing your hand? We are trying to give the kids skills. it scares us that kids now a days have no survival skills. we learned this when we had a no screen day.
