randommattcorby _ I saw Matt once at a free outdoor event, about 2009 I think. He didn't sing, it was a publicity appearance. He was with that "Fuzzy" tv chick with the afro. Matt was the clean-shaven pretty boy then. I think he is railing against the clean cut image that the talent show insisted on and cultivated and is doing all he can to rebel by smoking, growing unruly beards and hair and slopping around in old clothing. It's all bullshit. He should get a makeover by some gay fashion dudes, clean himself up, abandon the poverty stricken artiste poses, quit the smokes and emerge from hobo bohemia. Above all, he needs to engage in more eye contact when he plays a paying audience, from what I have read in recent reviews.
I like that he doesn't look at the audience it draws you in, if he was singing looking at the crowd it would look strange to me, I feel like he goes somewhere else when he closes his eyes and imagines what he singing about to get it across so emotional, I feel like if he was looking at a crowd singing those songs he wouldn't give as much emotion when its harder to imagine when theres so much distraction out there, a lot of emotion based singers don't look at crowds, a lot of attention seekers do, rockstars, pop stars, mainstream artists etc, some people feed off crowds to go off, some people just go in there own heads and let the music do the talking.
but the whole look thing is stupid, hes an artist that wants everything to be about his music only, Jim Morrison got fat and grew a beard because he hated the attention, its just the way it is, girls are the problem in a big way, not to take away from boys they are like it but fan girls are way over the top, enough to annoy the kinded souls
NathFilms Yes, but it's not for the artist to dictate that it should only be about "the music". It's also stage presence, about captivating the audience, engaging the audience (being audible, looking at them etc) and presentation. Angus Stone, also in the Aussie beardie mould, wearing t-shirts with holes in them. Jesus, if they're loaded, why look like a hobo?
Thanks for this. I missed the live interview and couldn't find a replay 'til now.
Amazing
Matt sounds like a cigarette smoker. Does wonders for the voice Matt.
+weskitten Haha, yeah he is. I wish he'd give it up - I hate to think of that beautiful voice of his being lost.
