The Citadel Mountain is one of the seven mountains of the city of Amman. The Ammonites used it since ancient times as the seat of their rule in the city, and after them the Greeks, the Romans, and the Byzantines, who occupied the city, respectively, until the Islamic conquest in the seventh century AD, when the Umayyad palace was built on its summit.
The Citadel in Amman emerged as the seat of the capital of the Ammonites. In which the remains of the Ammonites' palaces are still present, including the walls of the walls, and the wells dug in the limestone rock. Also, four statues of the Ammonite kings dating back to the eighth century BC were found on the Citadel Mountain. There are also Corinthian Roman ruins and columns in the Citadel Mountain, and a temple of Hercules. It also contains Islamic monuments dating back to the Umayyad era, where the Umayyad palace is there. In addition, there is the Jordan Archaeological Museum at the top of the mountain, which simulates the history of Jordan in general and Amman in particular.
