Just realized that Cuneo essentially punted game one pretty hard. By not picking up the Pearl Lake Ancient in response to a Chained to the Rocks, he would've had far more lands at his disposal later on in the game, not to mention he'd be drawing live into either another ancient or a Perilous Vault to get back the first one with value.
i dont get why levy was playing turns so slowly early on game 1, he had pretty streamlined plays that wasnt suprising to anyone. do most profesionals usualy slow play?
Alex Ortiz i ment like during turn 3 mostly where he took like 20 seconds to choose a land to play then another 30 or so if he should charm on his turn, idk maybe im just being impatient but it seemed like he was podering to charm during turn 3 or 4 for way to long to me.
Levy is generally a pretty cautious/deliberate player. He tends not to run into a situation without thinking it through first. Refer to the top 8 of PT Yokohama for more on this.
Lol, the conversation on this thread is hysterical and somewhat depressing. This is what happens when people are conditioned to playing "turn 'em sideways" style decks without having prior experience in the game; timing interactions are messed up if not generally unknown. Note that this is not necessarily a dig against aggro decks, but more on the direction WotC has been taking the game for years now. Less emphasis on the more "complicated" and "counterintuitive" aspects of the game and more focus on just smashing dudes.
its not that people are playing turn them sideway decks its about people not having knowledge of the game. ive held priority with burn decks all the time. i know people that have played only control decks the entire time theyve played magic that dont understand priority.
In game two at about 33 minuets Rapheal plays a sarkahn and Cuneo downfalls. However rapheal has priority so his sarkahn becomes an indestructible dragon until end of turn so...
You can only activate planeswalker abilities at sorcery speed. And if you activate it at sorcery he can still downfall in response before the activated ability resolves as he wont be an indestructible creature yet.
sirplayalot11x And if he activated it immediately, he can respond to the activation with the downfall and kill it before it becomes indestructible. The activation still happens, but Sarkhan isn't on the field to become a creature
well after talking to my friends about it, basically the play was fucked up cause levy had priority to activate an ability, there is no stack during this point cause, the in response to ability the heros downfall would have still happened. thats all i was trying to say in the first place
allnet20 There is ALWAYS a stack. Consider: A: opponent downfalls sarkhan before sarkhan activates: - Downfall goes on the stack - Sarkhan CANNOT use his ability because you can only use planeswalker abilities any time you could cast sorcery. - Downfall resolves, Sarkhan dies. B: Sarkhan activates before downfall is cast: - Sarkhans ability goes on the stack - In response opponent casts downfall - Downfall goes on the stack on top of sarkhan ability - Downfall resolves, Sarkhan dies - Sarkhans ability fizzles because sarkhan is no longer on the battlefield Either way - Sarkhan cannot become a creature to get around downfall in time, as long as an opponent is holding downfall + the mana to cast it, Sarkhan is dead.
i was just saying that when you play a planeswalker you get priority to activate an ability before it goes to your opponet. me and my friends were able to do this at a gp last year. i already knew that no matter how he played it sarkhan was dead.

I'm pretty sure he was considering whether to use his Chandra's draw or ping for most of those turns, which isn't an easy decision to make.

azzans comments makes me laugh
Sarkhan ulti seems pretty good.
It was almost physically painful when the commentators were talking about playing Dig Through Time for years in Standard...

It's all about selling cards to 3 year olds.

anyone notice he only tapped 4 mana to recast the pearl lake ?
He tapped the three mana before returning, so 3 floated during the phase.
ahhh
im all for blue decks i play them often but so many people using blue black control in this tournament damn lol

It doesn't work that way. Cuneo downfalls in response to the ability and the downfall resolves first before the ability activates.
Lol did it work?
when the downfall happened levy could have made sarkan a dragon and it would have lived through the downfall and got him back in the game.
