I have not seen all of the movie versions but my personal favorite was filmed in the early 2000s, about 20 years ago starring Guy Pearce and Jim Cavazel.
@@landang7906 That is part of WHY I liked it so much. More action and adventure and juicier revenges. The book was boring. This was one of those rare times that the movie was better than the book.
Agreed, that movie was great. I even remember getting to watch that movie in theaters when it came out. I didn't even realize they made another one. Might have to check this one out as well.
The terrible thing about this version is his revenge is pointless as he doesn't get the love of his life back. Given that proper story arcs were not refined in the 19th century, I can see why directors and screen writers want to adapt the story to help it make sense.
That is my favorite version! A far more satisfying ending. And I loved the encounter with the pirates, plus his nickname -- Satara. 😎♥✝🇺🇸💯 "And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent" (John 17:3, ESV).
Which 'original' ?? 1912: The Count of Monte Cristo 1913: The Count of Monte Cristo 1918: The Count of Monte Cristo series 1934: The Count of Monte Cristo starring Robert Donat 1942: The Count of Monte Cristo 1943: The Count of Monte Cristo 1954: The Count of Monte Cristo 1961: The Count of Monte Cristo 1975: The Count of Monte Cristo 1998: The Count of Monte Cristo miniseries 2002: The Count of Monte Cristo 2024: The Count of Monte Cristo, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2024
The book was pure mastermind plotted and executed revenge that brought karma to the evildoers who put away Dantes to die in the Chateau Dif. The theme was that each person would suffer more in every way possible than Dantes had. After all had been rightfully destroyed to the innermost core of their very souls, Dantes and Hadi sailed away into the sunset to fulfill and enjoy their lives to the fullest with the endless wealth garnered and hidden since Roman times. The various (most recent) different versions since Chamberlain and Curtis in the 70s to 2002s version with Caviezel and now 2024s all fall short of the book’s pure genius for utter revenge purposes only. Collateral damage and most tragically destroyed was Mercedes, but Dantes felt he was twice betrayed by her inability to wait for him and marrying Fernando while the only thing that kept him going in Dif was his love for her and dreams of their reunion one day.
I really hated that Haydee turned against Edmond and fell in love with Albert in this adaptation ; considering that she and Edmond weren't in love and how close she and Andre were, I would have preferred that she ended up with the latter instead.
i watched the telugu version of this story called "veta" when i was a small kid without realizing it was a remake of the count of monte christo (1975) .😝😝😝😝😝😝😝😝. i found out the truth only after i grew up .
To those who didn't read the book, Edmond ends up with Haydee which is a downer shit ending that disappoints after so many woven threads. It disappoints because it wasn't earned. The Jim Caviezel version is the best one for me.
This seems to be a very loose adaptation, with too many changes from the book. I am still waiting for a faithful adaptation to do full justice to this great piece of classic literature. This needs to be a multi-season series.
I remember I saw a miniseries with Richard Chamberlain as Edmond. He did that shortly before or after "Shogun" and "The Thorn Birds". But it can't be found for love or money these days. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Count_of_Monte_Cristo_(1975_film) And even that is not perfectly close to the original, although it was very gripping back then.
@donaldduck830 Thanks. We need someone with the passion of Peter Jackson making Lord of the Rings for this project. I even picked out the cast over several iterations through the years, like Daniel Day-Lewis as Edmond, and in another version Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Bárbara Mori as Mercedes in one version, Golshifteh Farahani as Haydee in another and then Kaya Scodelario as Valentine de Villefort in another version. Hopefully it will happen in my lifetime.
8 part adaptation (with Jeremy Irons as the imprisoned abbe) coming in December ... perhaps more faithful to the original masterpiece ... either way, this production was very good, imo, clocking in just under 3 hrs ... like all adaptations of Dicken's novels there will be liberties taken ... even Peter Jackson's acclaimed production of Lord of the Rings had notable changes & additions to Tolkien's original work. I always say if a movie gets people to read a book then it's a net positive.
Regardless of what anyone else says, i was actually a bit intrigued by the story.....I'm always game for weird stories where i'm trying to figure out who's who and who's doing what but gotta admit i lost it when they went back 400 yrs. For a second there i thought i had accidentally clicked on a different thumbnail for another movie lol
When I was very young I thought this book was about a man doing a really big count of some items. I guess like an inventory or a census, though I didn't really know those words at the time.
WHAT GARBAGE.......................... REMAKE ALWAYS SUCK...................... AND THIS ONE SUCKED SO BAD AND THE PEOPLE IN IT WERE JUST AS BAD................
You're witnessing the fall of humanity. Be grateful that you get the shit uncreative people create while trying to copy the great creations of humanities most creative people, because pretty soon Hollywood will just serve you shit and demand you like it.
Whomever is responsible for this horrible adaptation should go into solitude to live the rest of their days as a goat herder in the plains, away from cameras and tv

There is a Telugu movie named 'veta' with the same story..... released during 1980s if I am not wrong.
Movie name VETA - TELUGU(INDIAN) MOVIE. YEAR 1985. Just a rip off copy of the same.

The story is similar like Tollywood movie veta by chiranjeevi.
How did this movie manage to deviate so far from the original story?
