My lovely friend bought me an Ernaux for Christmas so if I can get through my current TBR (it’s taking a while to get to reading after being poorly) then I will head to that in Feb. Happy reading Bob 😊📚
I picked up my first Fitzcarraldo a few months ago while in The Netherlands, based on your appreciation of the press. (Cold Enough for Snow -- I should try to read it soon!) I was also curious about Bonsai and The Netanyahus... the latter of which has such an interesting opening paragraph. Will look forward to your Fitzuary recap!
I liked Paradais even more than Hurricane Season. It has so many interesting themes and layers. I also enjoyed The Netanyahus a lot. Although some of it went over my head for sure and I liked the parts with the Netanyahu familiy in it the most. Strangers I know by Claudia Durastanti is high on my wishlist for Fitzuary.
Ooh, that’s exciting to hear! I enjoyed Hurricane Season even if it was completely overwhelming at times! Ahh, glad to hear it about Netanyahus- it sounds fascinating! And Strangers I Know has been sat on my shelf since it came out, and I’ve just not ventured towards it yet! I will eventually, and I hope you enjoy it!
I'm just reading 'The Private Life of Trees', I hadn't realised that 'Bonsai' had also become an actual, physical book as well. I've also just received digital ARCs of a couple of others from Fitz...'While We Were Dreaming' and 'The Long Form' (can't remember the authors off the top of my head).
Well, I’ve had Paradais for a while now, so it seems like a good time to read it. No paragraph breaks, but at least she managed three chapter breaks in 102 pages. 😉 I will give it a go. I’ve also got Hurricane Season waiting to be read. Let’s see how Paradais goes.
Big Fan of Fitz Carraldo Editions and order them in the UK from Blackwells. I love the simple covers as well. The private lives is by Zambra The Secret lives of trees is a different book Was a big fan of. Private Livesof Trees. Bonsai was ok. But I still need to read Chilean Poet. I ll try to Read Fifty Sounds by Polly Barton this month. I’ve had it for a while
Nice! And I’m keen to see what he’s like as a writer- I really can’t tell if I’ll love him or find it tricky! And Fifty Sounds is a book I’ve been meaning to read for ages! I hope you like it!
How has it been a year since last Fitzuary? I still have a couple unread, ordered a year ago, so this will push me to finally read them. The books on your list also look interesting. (I already have The Netanyahus from a different publisher, so will look forward to your review.) I really couldn’t get into The Zamba’s I’ve read, although I appreciate his daring. This sounds a little more interesting though, so I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts on that as well. Happy Fitzuary!
Tell me about it! Ooh, I hope you like them! And yes, Zambra really seems like a divisive one! I might need to give myself proper time to read it so I can try to engage with it properly!
It was strange seeing those Zambra books as I read them more than 10 years ago in the McDowell translation published by Open Letter - maybe only in the States? If so I guess they would still be eligible for the international Booker
I am reading cold Enough for Snow at the moment. On a different matter you have featured a big long Irish novel told in verse published in the last year or 2. With a yellow and white cover with black lettering. I think the title begins with P but I can't remember anything else. Can you help me out at all?
Should definitely manage at least one. Thank you for the encouragement Bob 😊 Happy Fitzuary!!!!
Yay! I hope you enjoy it! And thank you, you too!

Oooh nice! I hope you enjoy it! She’s so much fun as a writer!
'And you know how much I love a tree.' 😂🤣
Aha, it is very much who I am 😂

I also picked up my first Fitzcarraldo last year in The Netherlands and it took me 4-5 months to read it too!
Ooh, I hope you like Cold Enough For Snow- such a delicate and interesting book!
I hope you both enjoy your picks!
Cold enough for snow is on my list
Oooh, I hope you like it! I think you’re in for a treat!
I want to read Paradais, Cold enough for snow and now curious about Bonsai too!
Ooh, nice! Cold Enough For Snow is such a little gem of a book!

Ooh, nice! I hope you like them! And yes, always fun to see what new ones they have. ‘The Long Form’ is one I was tempted to apply for!

Aha, oh gosh! I remember Hurricane Season being similar for line/page breaks! And enjoy!

I loved Cold Enough for Snow - wonder if they have published anymore by her?
It’s so beautiful, isn’t it? And good question- it’s the only one of hers I’ve seen, so I assumed it was her debut, but maybe there are more!
It was strange seeing those Zambra books as I read them more than 10 years ago in the McDowell translation published by Open Letter - maybe only in the States? If so I guess they would still be eligible for the international Booker
Oh right! How interesting- perhaps they were US only for a bit! But yes, they’d still be eligible I think, although that feels like a weird grey area!
Is it the very same Pantone shade of blue that those architecture plaques are in London?
That’s a really good point- it looks very similar at least!
The only one on the list I’ve read is The Netanyahus. Listened to it on audio in 2021?
It was ok.
Ooh, I keep forgetting that Fitz books might have audiobooks to look for too. I’m curious to see what it’s all about!

And is it Poguemahone by Patrick McCabe? I think that fits your description!
@@BobTheBookerer That’s the one thanks. I am loving cold enough for snow its a very gentle read.
