A great device, really enjoying it. Was wondering if there is a work around to record the automated parameters into the arrangement view, because at the moment they are being ‘modulated’ by the game pad device like a lfo so no automation can be recorded. Also looked into trying to create it as a routed input control surface so it can do things such as record the played notes without having to re route it through a seperate midi channel. Is it possible for max to be opened seperately and used as the game pad host and input it into ableton? Thank you for the device and your time
Which controllers are you trying it with? It mostly supports all the modern pro controllers but not old school ones. They still need to use the old Hi object in Max. This one is using the new gamepad object.
So the trick is press the PS button in the center of the controller..it does not automatically detect. Now it works! This might be very fun for me as a performative and hardware controller. Cool!
@@SideBrain Sony model cechzc2u. BTW. I discovered perhaps an odd bug. With the controller plugged in I was getting very weird midi out to my external devices or odd behavior on the session view. Sorry for not exact details..if time allows I'll dig deeper. But after removing the controller issues resolved.
This is very cool for modulation of a single track but what if I actually want to control Live on a global level? Switch tracks, switch between session and arranger, show or hide the mixer. Navigate between devices and effects and control their macros? Could this M4L device be combined with something else or would I need something else entirely? My use case is making navigation of Live easy on the gaming handhelds that are flooding the market currently.
Hi!! I have windows 10 and Ableton 12 and it works awesome but the ableton's interface freezes when I plug the joystick. I've tried with several joysticks but still freezes. Does someone have an answer for this?
This would still work with a Windows OS? For sure you can’t use it with bluetooth, cuz midi over bluetooth doesn’t work in Windows (you can use a software to make the bridge but it will encrease latency, and none that I know are very stable)
hi I have an older xbox controller which seems to not support bluetooth directly. when I connect it to the device it says "PS" instead of "Xbox". any way to make it work please?
Hey I’m about to post a video about this today. For Live 11, You need to use the latest version of Max (cycling74.com - you don’t need a license) then in Ableton Preference under File/Folder show Ableton where the Max application is.
wait wait wait. I have been asking about this and maybe this is something you might know? Would it be possible to use flight simulator gear to control midi/parameters on hardware like the MPC one? or ableton as well of course
@@SideBrain wow Thank you! I thought I would have to figure this out from scratch. Was it easy to hook up? or did it require some extra workarounds? I would love to make a video about it
Hello! Great interface. I currently use Fergo, but this would be infinitely easier to edit. Do the controllers need to be bluetooth? I use the 'wireless xbox 360 controller for windows' that connects via USB dongle - would that work? I also use a generic USB arcade controller - would that work either? (I know that only a single controller is supported at this time) Thanks so much for your help! 🤘
Hey, It can be wired or Bluetooth but there might be some limitations depending on the controller and the connection type. I’m not sure how old are those controllers and if they are supported. If you would like please email me and we can test them out together
Hey, I also not sure where you comment went I didn’t see it. Anywho, that’s a good question I’m not sure as I don’t have it to test. Since it’s an old controller I would assume it needs to use the old HI object in Max and not the new Gamepad object which this device is based on. If you’d like please email me and we can test it out together
@@SideBrain Hey… thanks for answering! Unfortunately I don't know where to find your email? At first I was like, there is no way this is the name of a real controller, he's just trolling. But no, I looked it up and it's real. plugged in my ps wireless/wired controller..nada. none of the buttons respond but it seem to connect as the connect tab says PS. Any ideas why nothing responds?
just observed Abelton doesn't recognize if the controller is plugged in. so connect is not really connected either. Controller lets are flashing indicating it is connected to my pc.
@SideBrain ah ok yes please let me know when u update, if I can get all the buttons mapable it would be so dope. Even options share joystick, big rectangle button (not sure what that buttons called) and the ps button
It might work with Ableton Suite 10 but you need the latest version of Max installed, it’s free you don’t need the full Max license just Max for Live which comes built in with Ableton Suite See tutorial here: ruclips.net/video/ZLTY-8Hr9l4/видео.html
I understand where you’re coming from. But I did put a lot of effort into this. This is designed with my experience using video game controllers as midi conttollers (over 20 years believe it or not) you can go to the old videos on my channel. The mapping options here are not standard and are designed for each control specifically with different modes and a super fun performance template which people seems to love from the feedback I got. Plus I keep updating the device and giving people tech support. What would your preferred price be?
Hello ! I couldn't make it work in my session, the controller is connected to my Mac but no response in Ableton. I used Ableton Live 11 Suite (11.3.25), Mac OS Intel with Big Sur, and a playstation 5 DualSense Controller. Do you have an idea where the problem could come from ? Thanks in advance !
Hey! Sounds like it should work plug and play. Especially Mac and PS5 controller. One thing to try is to hit the yellow box where it say PlayStation twice. Can you please reach out here and we’ll solve the issue? Info@sidebrain.net

This is pretty cool. Is the device just a MIDI controller, or can it also be used as replacement for a mouse?
It turn your game controller to MIDI controller in Ableton. You can play samples or instruments and control FX but no mouse unfortunately.

Original as in PlayStation one? Haven’t tested with that one. Switch Pro remote are working and just added auto detection support in version 1.1

Asus Ally just became the Ableton Ally

Live 12 only? The performance template is, I know, but how about the max device?
You can use the device in Ableton Suite 11 but you need the latest version of Max (cycling74.com free download)
I’ll post a video about it today.

Can we use the gyro/motion-sensor in the controller to play shaker though?
That’s a great idea! Yes but it needs another device in combination I’ll make a video about it
Is there an option to set an analog stick axis to map to 0 at center and increase in value as you move in either direction?
Also to split an axis to map to two different parameters depending on which direction you move?
Can we set them to pitch bend or modulation?

It's a little expensive for what it is. Just making the controller a mappable MIDI controller.
How much do you think it’s worth?
does this work with generic ps4 controllers? also does it support multiple controllers at once?
No support for multiple controllers at the moment.
Yes ps4 controller should work

Should be plug and play. Which controller are you using? PS4 and what system?
Im using pc with a ps4 controller, how can i use the l2, r2, share and options buttons as buttons/notes instead of triggers
First enable them by clicking on their names. Then click the small N button to switch between M (mapping mode) and N (Note Mode)
At the moment the l2 and r2 are only mappled but I can add that option in the next update
