That shot of Matt Hensley on the bridge graced the wall of my room for many years as a teenager. It's like how's he that high, where's he coming down at? Because all you have is the one shot and that's what made it so badass.
Favourite photo is one of my dad riding our mini ramp in '88. Cracking pic, he had great balance and took to it like a fish to water. Blew me away. 2nd is the Gonz doing an Ollie over the gap at Embarcadero '86. Monumental.🏴👍🏻
I was skating the pool at Lakewood California and a guy compliments my roll out and asked how I like my caster Chris Strople model. I said it’s really good and notched he has one also. He said so you like my deck? Then I just sat and watched him.
either gonz or j-lee doing a f/s noseblunt on a white plastic bench set down 3or4 steps, it was in RADmag(UK)1991 and filled a whole page or half page in full colour.....:)
I believe they intentionally put the worst photos of Blender AND (mainly Hosoi though) when they were saying you couldn’t take a bad picture of either. SixStair godhead.
didnt even mention blabac. kalis. love park nose blunt. come on now. orrrr allll of his photos of danny way on the super ramp and mega ramp and the great wall of china.
I remember the mags. Yeah that was all you had and you tried to figure what they were doing but the shots always looked great. Sometimes they would give you a frame by frame and talk about it but most of the time it was some contest shot. I think that kind of killed it. I think that is when you looked at your mini half pipe different. Everyone would like to make money off the sport and that is the killing point of it. There is always going to be a better skater and even the pros where not the best. There where a lot better skaters who never got the contract and it is unfair to them and all the people who did it alone who nothing. Now there are skate parks and you can see how good people are who never get paid or get a photo shoot. nOW everyone thinks they are pro..Whatever that means..Riley Hawk is now "Pro" I think you do a video then you are pro..Or maybe you got to Ollie a gap? What makes you pro? I forget.
I'm not sure Grosso knew how brilliant he was. 💖
The other day I did a frontside wheeler on my friends ramp. Scariest thing of my life.
George Orton doing a foot-plant on a red Santa Cruz Stinger board.. It's hard to tell but I think it's in the Big O capsule.

They missed the Thrasher cover of Jay doing the frontside grid, about 1983 or so -- the greatest photo ever.
