people may change people systems, but the large scale natural systems like the climate or the oceans is utterly beyond our controlled change capabilities. we are dangerous children playing with matches and explosives.
Yes, humanity is capable of disrupting Nature in varying ways and degrees, but it cannot still overcome the most powerful effects that the planet can unleash upon us.
"...the power to alter the atmosphere and the biosphere (...). No species has ever had that kind of power before." - well, tell that to these ancient microbes who evolved photosynthesis (-> oxygen levels rising beyond measure, causing mass extinction of anaerobic organisms). We humans tend to think so big of ourselvers, or maybe it's just me being picky :)

That’s right, “progress” is only an appearance. If you notice, it looks AT things to interpret its progress it doesn’t look AT ITSELF. It’s not the species that’s progressing, as way behind in the animal kingdom takes way longer to develop even maturity.

Blaming *all of humanity* for the atrocities committed by *some of humanity:* this is an injustice.
That's the same sort of thinking that got us into this mess. If you find you must judge another individual, then judge them for their *own actions,* not the actions of those who seem similar to them in some way. Where there is no justice, there is no peace.
And *no.* No one hurts another just by existing. If someone is hurt because someone else exists, it is something within themselves that causes that pain, and no one else is responsible.
That said, I 100% agree with your last sentence. War is paid for by those whose lives are destroyed by war. But there are no winners in war either. Only losers who live, and losers who die. No one wins when violence and hate are the chosen path.
But remember that the ripples you spread out into the world mean something. Your voice is important. So make it count for a better world. Help people by sending out good messages into the world, if you want more good to exist in the world. It doesn't have to be false, there is a lot more good in the world than bad, but the good does not make the news very often, does it? That's because so much good happens, no one is surprised, but we can forget this is true if we don't pay attention to each other.
You see, over time we are winning the struggle for liberty and justice for all. History proves this. It's just taking a very long time, and I too wish it wasn't happening so slowly. But it *is* happening. So don't give up now, one step back and two steps forward still gets us there.
