Derby County Videos, Thanks for this excellent game. Derby unlucky to lose-nice to see players like Leighton James and Charlie George, Tommy Craig very good for Newcastle
It's funny how the memory plays tricks, I watched a lot of football on the TV in the 70s, but I can't remember Kenneth Wolstenholme doing the commentary. I can't remember Leighton James playing for Derby either.
KW was the regular commentator for Tyne Tees TV for quite a while until Roger Tame and David Burton hosted a revamped and much improved highlights show.
Presume this game was played relatively early in the season. From around October onwards there wouldn't have been that amount of grass on the pitch back in the 70s.
Typical St James' Park response to the opposition scoring...deathly silence. Boro was the same too and then the "You're gonna get your effin head kicked in" chant would start!
+Stuart S You're very wrong. He moved from the BBC and was snapped-up by Tyne-Tees I think. If you look around at other Newcastle, Middlesbro games of the mid 70's, you'll find him commentating on them too. Try Middlesbro 4 Coventry 4 from 1974-75 season. A great game. Quite a good commentator too!
Ken commentated on Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough games for Tyne Tees TV from 1974-79. His last was Newcastle v Brighton (0-3) on 5th May 1979.
I don´t like Kenneth, to be honest... he was quite simply not in the same league as younger men, who came to commentate football on BBC in late 60s - early 70s, like David Coleman (my absolute favourite), Gerald Sinstadt, John Motson... no wonder Kenneth left BBC in 1971.
@@Farerets Sorry mate but how can you compare Kenneth Wolstenholme with Motson , Ken was miles better that idiot , Ken commentated Motson treated watching viewers like idiots , with that stupid laugh , and his use of histryonics , Barry Davis was better than him

I Couldn't agree more, proper footy in them days, and super mac a proper old fashioned center forward..
supermac was some player, except the 1974 fa cup final, thank you for post
Great performance by Geoff Nulty. He was probably the best player in Europe at this time.
Supermac was brilliant … I remember his debut game and hatrick does anyone have highlights … Toon Army
My First game I went to, my late grandad took me
You arrived 20 minutes after kick off...?
@@yknot8029 great line mate 👍👏👏
I was at this game 14. Years old in the leazers end now 62
Me too, although I was 17. I remember laughing at the idiots that left 10 minutes early to "beat the traffic".
I was in the Leazes behind the goal.
I was there, still have program
Derby has some great players
Attendance 45,770
Nice to see a fan site putting in lost games however good or bad they are. Too much cream makes you sick..

@djm151071 Why not just say 7 February 1976?
Grass stopped growing at the Baseball Ground after September. Mudbath!
It was at Newcastle.
Derby's 3rd goal is pure class!
Good to see Charlie George play for Derby instead of Arse.
Does anyone know what the attendance was.

Typical response? Should they be cheering a goal by the visiting team?
Billy Morton fool
Of course other clubs resound to the sound of "jolly good, show, old chaps" when the visitors score...
Sounds like Kenneth Wolstenholme came out of retirement to commentate on this one? I'm sure he hung up the mic in 1971.
