I designed and built a custom robotic chopper which uses a Raspberry Pi plus a custom designed control board to automatically cut the crust off of sandwiches.
The bot uses computer vision and some basic object detection algorithms to locate the item and align it with the knife. Also it can cut and dice any other food. Plus it has sound effects. And a flamethrower. Wait no not that last thing.

I would definitely pick up some of these. You can never have enough micro controllers you don't want them to get lonely. I love that it has the drivers on the board. That would definitely clean up most of my builds and save a ton of space.

I think this needs a straight blade and/or another axis to do the slicey bit.
But, that board needs a LinuxCNC driver :-)

This is much like an idea I had for certain brands of cheese that have a wax lining on the pre-cut slices. A laser or exacto knife could automatically slice it off with a bit of CV
Haha yeah this would be great for that, especially if you replaced the knife with a thin gauge wire or something else that would be better at cutting cheese

I guess you never took it to the kitchen jot you, but that's not the point. The joy was in constructing it and building it 😉
Don't worry, I made a V2 and posted it about a week after this video which addresses both of those points! I'm a better engineer than I am a chef :)

IS there anyways to program the robot to actually move the knife back and forth to fully utilize the cutting edge? Or even just a diagonal stroke down would make a big difference.
@@Pyro978 yeah that would be possible, but instead of doing a powered sawing motion I've instead designed a pivoting mount which will passively rock the knife with each cut. If all goes well the new video should come out Monday!

Obviously removing the crust is just useless waste of perfectly fine food. You don't even taste it. But yeah from an electronics standpoint this is really cool.

@@3DprintedLife but what stops you from trying to sell it? Even if selling a ready to use board is too much work, you could just sell the plans for the pcp board and maybe include a link to where to buy the rest of the components
