Imagine someone getting executed and there's a guy going around selling mc nuggets

Imagine if the person being executed wanted to try those McNuggets 👀

Nah I’d be more concerned about the guy drinking piss in the corner of the execution.

I actually have those places in my D&D campaign! While they're staying in the capitol, the players have quickly gotten used to hitting up Cook Street for grub and using it as a convenient way to hit up locals for information. I have ale houses on Cook Street, as well as bakers. I'm using the famous Pompeii bread; it's baked with a string around it with a loop at the end to make it easy to carry. The quarter that they're staying in is the "industrial" part of town, so a lot of peasants will grab lunch on their way into work; a small loaf and a meat pie. I find actual historical stuff to be such a cool inspiration.
Also, I like to think of your dude as a soldier or knight on a campaign, and while marching to a new location people just ask him to talk about something and he just randomly starts talking about the neat stuff he's learned over the years and countless campaigns.

I do like that idea. Definitely a good angle for the caricature in future videos 👌

I like we don't even bat an eye about such little topics of how life really was in pre-industrial societies. We just assume they were "like us, but ancient!" Which gives those weird DND-esque settings that don't make a ton of sense.
    Very good video btw

Absolutely! I think by better understanding the medieval lifestyle DND is based around, it can make for much more immersive and funny gameplay

I mean, some Medieval Cistercian monks were ALMOST vegan. They generally abstained from meat (except for for the old or the sick, for heath reasons), and they only ever ate fish or eggs on feast days (which admittedly, there were a LOT of feast days back then). Not really vegans, and definitely not the more “political” style vegans of the modern day, but an interesting thing to think about nonetheless

Thanks for sharing! I remember talking about monks and eels in that strange currencies video so it all makes sense. It may be a minor detail but it think the added dietary choices would make playing a cleric character more interesting.
The party camps out for the night and enjoys some nice bear meat hunted by the ranger but the cleric refuses to partake. “No thanks, I don’t eat bear” as the cleric pulls out the last of their rations from their bag. Perhaps the ranger knowing of their priesthood would offer to forage for some herbs instead 🤷‍♂️

I love the shift in the music at the pee taster segment 😆

I wonder what it was like in the other parts of the world 🤔 But hey, I have never thought that having a kitchen in your house was not a regular thing. I think I would probably end up working in one of those cook shops.

Most of the common spices we use today were for nobility back in the day BUT:
The common folk used a wide variety of locally obtained herbs and flavouring agents; which we could broadly call "spices". Herbs, berries, barks, seeds... Plus, those available flavours would change every season, so there was always something to look forward to. Except for very poorest townies, the food would be full of "spices".

My question is, how did they first learn about diabetes changing the taste of urine? Some unknown person has a bit of explaining to do.

From what I could find by digging a little deeper, it seems urine and diabetes have been linked since before Christ. Another name was madhumeha meaning “honey urine” 👀
