  • Hello friends! In today’s video, I demonstrate how to make a KN95 mask cover. In last week’s videos, I showed two ways to make a surgical mask cover. After a lot of practice, I actually modified my technique in the first mask cover and I think I owe it to you guys to show the tweaks. I hope you like this video and please subscribe so you don’t miss out on more free patterns and sewing tips!

If you choose to make the mask cover reversible, adhere to one side per use, and as always, wash your cloth masks between uses. The decision to use this mask is solely your own. Remember to continue to practice good hygiene and protocol. Stay safe! Please follow the recommendations for homemade masks. Also, if you want to add a third layer, you could sew in a polypropylene layer as I demonstrate in my 3D mask tutorial.

    Like the pleat update. I added fusible interfacing to the inside of the front layer to add support and further close the fabric threads. As an RN, I wear level 3 or N95 masks. With adding an interfacing and a 2 layer cover this provides a much better shield from the microorganisms entering. I would not recommend flipping the covers after wearing one layer to the outside. Wash the cover before flipping. Also make sure you are washing your hands with soap and water after handling any used mask. Stay safe. Stay well.

    This is wonderful. I'm trying to make a breathable waterproof cover for mine so I can continue to enjoy aquafit in a safe way since social distancing can't be enforced as some participants move around.

    Thank you for this wonderful pattern. I will try this. I have covered one of the masks with different but similar method. They are so difficult to breathe through though. I felt panicky after wearing it a while and that triggered other symptoms; faintness, heart palpitations. I don't have a solution to this conundrum other than try try again... and stay home!

    Thanks for the update.. i made 4 from the old pattern and thought it was a bit loose on the sides so the pleat should help with that, I also thought about putting in a nose wire, especially since I wear eye glasses will help with the fogging.

      yes and as well the best improvment is to use two straps going back head below and over the ears as int eh good designed disposable respirators, not in the generic Chinese KN95. The mask must be really tight fit everywhere, or the air will go in by the gaps. And you will not breathe safely.

    Hi. Your tutorials are really helpful. Do u mind doing another tutorial for surgical face mask cover exactly the same like KN95 where u have a hole to put the strap out? I find that it'll help the side of the surgical face mask cover to fit nicely to avoid gaps. Looking forward for the tutorial. Thanks 😊

    In the video, you created the pattern. I printed it out but do I add seam allowance? Or is the seam allowance included in the pattern? I cut put my pattern and it just doesn't seem the same as yours.

    • @DowntownTailoring
      @DowntownTailoring  2 года назад

      A seam allowance of 3/8 all around is included. Cheers

    Thank you so much! I just made some of the original surgical mask covers, and am excited to try the upgraded style. Did you try a dart and if so, did you prefer a dart or pleat?

    • @cynthia396
      @cynthia396 2 года назад +1

      Also, in future videos (or written instructions) perhaps you could clarify what seam allowances you are using for us beginners. In this video, I think I see 1/8, 1/4 and 3/8, but it's hard to tell. And, I'm not sure when it's necessary to backstitch. Thanks so much!

    • @DowntownTailoring
      @DowntownTailoring  2 года назад

      Yes. I'll take this in count. Seam allowance is 3/8". I didn't like it better with the darts so I kept the little pleads. Cheers 😊

    Personally the reason I want a mask cover for the KN95 is not for double masking but it's because KN95 masks are expensive ($1 for 1 disposable mask) so it would be great if when I get home instead of having my mask sit in a bag for 3 days so viruses on it dies or have to throw it away so I just take of the cover and wash the cover.

    • @DowntownTailoring

      That's my reason for it also!! I refuse to throw my money away!!!

    • @vicgamesvt9682
      @vicgamesvt9682 3 года назад

      @@andreastanton2590 honestly a mask cover would maybe add one extra use but even without a cover you can still use the mask 3 times you just need to quarantine it for 8 days after each use, a mask cover would still be good though because it might add a extra use and you wouldn't have to quarantine the mask for 8 days each time.

    I tell people that I make mask for that masks are like bras. Once you get them home you have to adjust the straps! The ladies get it, but not so sure the guys do. Lol

    Can you make a mask that is suitable for those of us that have breathing issues? I have obstructive airway disease. I still have to wear a mask. But when I'm shopping, I feel like I'm going to pass out.

    • @vicgamesvt9682

      I would reccomend either a face shield or you could make a simple 2 layer mask with no filter, the face shield is good for keeping you safe as it blocks most droplets from hitting your face but the 2 layer mask wont be so effective so make sure you social distance with the 2 layer mask or even wear a face shield over the mask.
