Army are dedicated to BTS so if we see anyone hating we will not have that BTS suffered enough, the way other groups and their fans mistreated BTS was and still is vile and vicious. I'm 58 years old and I have seen many groups come and go and I'm telling people BTS are the Beatles of these times, we are all witnessing history which will never be replicated. Other groups may try but they will fail , they won't have these 7 amazing men who are all talented individually but collectively they are A list Global Superstars and credible artists on the world stage ARMY are also growing in Size almost 1 billion Strong, some are fake army and use every chance to hate on BTS. They are particularly vile towards Jimin who is just an angel so kind, talented, always so supportive of his brothers and deserves the biggest apology. Other groups fans are annoying trying to sabotage BTS and then when ARMY stop them they have the audacity to say ARMY are annoying. If you are not a fan of BTS that's your loss, them, their journey through Hardships, their relationship with army will never happen again not in 10 million lifetimes.

Why do people get so defensive when someone says they don’t like kpop and just listen to BTS? Like you do realize just because someone likes BTS doesn’t mean they’ll like other kpop groups, if I say I like Melanie Martinez and Melanie Martinez ALONE, no one is gonna come and tell me “well you should listen to Lana del Rey because they’re both alt artists” like why does kpop have this mob mentality. Every artist is different and makes different music so am I supposed to give kpop “a chance” if I like BTS and BTS only?

I think posts and comments like these are made over and over again, because of some toxic fans in any fandom that says that their favourite group is the most talented, hardworking, genuine, deserving and best, etc. group to ever exist and that no one will ever come close to that no matter what or deserve what their group deserves.
But those kind of people can be found anywhere, not just in the BTS fandom, nor just in Kpop and that's just how it is unfortunately, even if it's very frustrating when those people downplay the achievements and successes of other groups and bash and look down on them or dismiss them as unknown/flops.

Many people think Armies stereotype kpop and provide examples of kpop groups that write and produce their own songs. But they actually miss the draw of BTS and why they are not kpop but in a genre and group by themselves. So if fans can't accept other kpop groups it's because BTS stands apart in their philosophy to their presence. It's not about other K-pop 3rd gen or others not being good but BTS is different from K pop, as it is organic and pure. And as with other fandoms they Stan who they love. And staning BTS is not about their looks but their whole philosophy. Which they still maintain in their solo work. Their character, including their looks is a bonus.

I feel like the worst thing people can do is to judge artists through their fans. First listen, then decide whether you want to listen to them or not. Good and bad things are everywhere; it's up to you to decide what you exactly want to invest your energy in. I feel like if you want to see positivity, you're going to see positive side in everything, but if you yourself want to focus on the negative then, that's exactly what you're going to see.

They attack BTS? The first people that's been attacking the whole music industry was their fans. And just because they experience hate doesn't mean other idols went through the same thing. It's like their fandom is always spreading the narrative that their group was the only one that went through crap.
FYI, the only reason people didn't see anything so favorable about BTS company when they were just rookies was because of that GLAM group that got into a BIG SCANDAL. And that issue went on for up to 2015. That's why the company put their money on overseas promotion and social media marketing. They can't disappear so the company did the next best thing, grow somewhere else.

Let's just say as someone who is well immersed in kpop and had multiple mindset changes throughout this experience, i agree that bts have something special, it wasn't just right timing and it wasn't just a coincidence that they became the way they are today they face numerous prejudices from all sides and are like this shield at the forefront that represents kpop acts in general in the west and they get so much shit for it too. But we have to learn how to separate this knowledge when dealing with other people. We have to start generalizing less because that allows us to have a much more enjoyable stanning atmosphere. There are kpop stans who are respectful and acknowledge these facts just like there are annoying and childish ones. We also need to separate groups from fandoms because it's so common to drag these artists into fanwars when irl they admire each other. there is life outside of twitter too yk?
Also it's cool to not be interested in other groups and just stan one group but what i don't understand is the hate train towards multi stans? I get that a couple of them have shitty opinions on twitter but that's literally every stan out there multi or not .again with the generalization.... it's okay to be able to enjoy more than one group. In fact i was convinced i couldn't but when i actually separated the fandom shit i could so easily give things chance and love other acts and music. (Bts are still my most listened to artists of all time and there's not a content that miss from them. Stanning other groups just means that i can love other acts now too and have more music to obsess over )
It's a rant but i rlly just needed to say all of this lol

    • @sydneydefreitas5157
      @sydneydefreitas5157 Год назад +22

I understand your point! I don't think it's the hate of multis specifically, but there's a lot of multis who are self- proclaimed "armys", along with being a fan of other groups. However, the problem lies in BTS being the biggest group in the world. Because the other groups are not as big, you're going to find a lot of BTS haters in any other K-pop fandom, and the multi has to hear the hate being spewed about BTS. So, because their other group is smaller, the multi usually tends to side with the smaller group instead of defending BTS (for whatever reason), sometimes even taking part in de-humanizing and hating BTS. The things I see the most from multis is the argument that "BTS always win and it's time to give other groups a chance". Like, NO. We vote the best because we worked for it.
It's not that ALL do it, but it's enough multis where there's a bad feeling when a multi who also stans BTS comes along. They just always tend to turn their backs on BTS and ARMYs, so multis leave a bad taste in our mouths.

Folks need to stay off twitter (and whatever else they need to stay off of) and surround themselves with NICE people. I’m sick and tired of someone who only stans BTS telling anyone else, let alone me, that I’m not an army. When I’m with BTS and their content - I’m army 100%. When I’m with any of my other ult group’s content - I’m there for them as their fan. If my worlds collide and my groups interact - I’m ecstatic. People don’t care who tf they hurt by what they say. Also people are ALWAYS pressured to side with the negativity than they are positivity. People don’t think for themselves because BULLYING. It’s just something I’m sick of. I don’t give asshats any time of day to tell me who I stan and who I don’t, who I am or who I am not. And I don’t let it slide if they’re doing it to someone else. But I don’t seek out shit and I swear this fandom has people who purposely seeks out shit for the hell of it. You can’t stop people from being shitty people.. so stop. And sorry but not everyone needs to kiss BTS ass cuz they’re so damn successful (rightfully so) and have (majority) a good fandom behind them helping them along the way. It’s honestly getting to the point where I stick to my people I’ve been around for the last 6 years because they haven’t changed how they think or treat anyone. I don’t wanna meet new people, in any fandom, because idk what kinda person I’m gonna get. So I support all of my ults and the tons of others I’m rooting for because MUSIC. It’s damn good music and some damn good messages too. My ot7 ass is waiting for BTS and enjoying the hell outta chapter 2 tho. @Swduc everything being said in this video was, 90% correct. Bts *is* different from other kpop acts, so much so that even before 2017 they were rapidly gaining fans, because of their musical identity. I am a fan of traditional music in my country, which is very different from today's general music sound (outside and inside kpop). I tried getting into pop and rap but didn't like it for several reasons. Then I discovered bts and liked their music, lyrics and personalities; decided to give other kpop groups a listen and decide for myself. Guess what? Non of them had my attention for more than 4-6 months, because non of their music touched me the way bts' music and lyrics did. My point is, and the point clearly stated in the video, isn't that kpop is bad music, or that kpop groups are not hardworking, it is that no one is doing it like bts, no one writes lyrics like bts, even if the members do themselves. No one composes music even if the group members do it. They follow kpop trends that die quickly. Old bts music is listened to today because it is timeless music; old kpop songs are still listened to because of nostalgia

    • @batoulelzein1269
      @batoulelzein1269 Год назад +17

@Swduc I never once said my opinion is more valuable, even though your opinion of not liking them and their music is stated very clearly as a fact; even though it is just that - an opinion. You seem distraught by the fact that a lot of armys relate to the video. I'm not saying my experience is more valuable than yours, but ik that a huge percentage of this fandom that are only fans of bts and are casual listeners of kpop or not into kpop at all share this same experience, that's why I shared it in the first place. You wanna think bts is entirely kpop and because they are kpop and by some random extraordinary coincidence are the force they are now? Go ahead, no one can stop you. You want to think that them writing about their story that they personally went through and had to fight every force of hate left and right since their debut that they're still affected by that until now is "overused"? I'm not here to tell you to change your opinion to suit my feelings. You like a certain group, prefer their music, lyrics, probably relate to their story and think are the greatest musicians of all time? You are free to do that as well, be the fangirl/fanboy you want to be. But what you should know better not to do, is thinking your dislike towards bts is something to write about under multiple army comments sharing an opinion. Those comments never said that kpop is bad music, they *did* say though, that they didn't like it, and that's not the same thing. Almost all of us tried, and talking from a personal POV (again), it took me 2 years of discovering new groups, their members, songs and back stories until I settled on that one group. Do I entirely hate kpop now? That's not what I said. If a kpop song appeared in a yt video, I'm not gonna skip it or mute the video, that's an idiotic thing to do, but I'm not gonna seek it out and purposefully search for it and listen to it, because my music taste changed and evolved. I found what I like and settled for that, and you did too. Which is why i don't understand why you're attacking their hard work, music and their real life story which inspires them to write music, even though no one pointed fingers and called the group/s that you stan bad idols

    • @batoulelzein1269
      @batoulelzein1269 Год назад +8

@Swduc deeply sorry for the long reply, I didn't intend to write this much, and you are in no way obliged to reply or even read my whole comment, but I am (unfortunately for me and sometimes others) a person who enjoyed such convos, so bear with the notif
we're gonna have to agree to disagree - in some points. The comments I saw were very respectful, and the video was as well, to some degree. I like that channel and their video essays but yes the generalization to the entire kpop industry is very apparent
However, I do disagree that their group songs are "mid". But that's just the difference in music tastes. Their title tracks follow the trilogy formula to a tee, but they are still reflective of their lives. Their bsides are also extremely enjoyable in my opinion. Albums like Dark and Wild, Wings and Be are no skip albums, the last two being very dependent on the experiences they had in that moment
Do they draw inspiration from previous kpop acts? I suppose as much, but their main writers and producers are their rappers, who rely heavily in their inspiration on past thinkers and philosophers (especially with rm) and the black rappers who were pillars in the genre, eg. J-hope's last song being with J-Cole. And as a fan who delved deeply in their work I think they drew more inspiration from the latter.
Then again, a lot of fans are drawn to the lyrics and the rawness of it all. I know people who are drawn to certain "sounds" like the "noise music" of kpop (do not @ me, I've heard this term being used by fans, I am not by any means trying to be disrespectful). Some like the hiphop focused groups, the edm focused groups, the rock focused groups, the list goes on. Some who left the fandom and stopped following bts' projects once they moved on from a certain chapter in their career.
And yes, their solo projects are more appealing to certain groups of music fans because they don't market as a boy group, which as a tag on a group of musicians is a let down, but as artists with their own artistic identity. They are talking about individual stories rather than stories of the group as a whole, which is why you'll see a stark contrast between those solo albums and the group albums. All of Agust D's past work *was* about personal experiences, the same as RM with his mixtapes "RM" and "Mono", the same for J-Hope with "Hope World". The vocalists didn't release solo work like that while doing group promotions, although they could. And now that they are, we're seeing the contrast between their roles as parts of a group promoting an experience appealing to the majority of their peers, and as individuals sharing their own stories.
Of course there are producers and songwriters in kpop, songs don't make themselves, but from the point of view of someone who really tried to get into more groups than I could count. It is different. The way I see it, and other fans do as well, we'd rather hear music the artist created and added to it according to their story, rather than songs catered to fit a group's sound or theme. No shade to any group or idol, many songs are extremely enjoyable, but the majority of us would rather have the first

14:51, i said this as a response to another comment
i listened to them since 2017, and i showed interest in other groups at the time, MonstaX, NCT, EXO and others. But the interest for others was just gone after some time. another group that had my attention longer then others was StrayKids, but still, even they dont interest me as much for the last year or two, even tho i love their work.
And for me personally, its a thing of music taste, StrayKids used to fit perfectly into my taste back in 2020-2021, but now it changed, now i like more stuff like BIBI, DPR, or recent solo track of bts members.
Thats why i personally dont listen to other groups, they used to be in my taste in 2017-2018-2019, but then again, my taste change.
Maybe i am wrong in my statment and you want to say it, then go ahead, im ready to read the comments.
And about attention spam, i like watching long videos when i want to wind down, relax, and just absorb information slowly

Lmao that's literally my biggest question, on twitter if I praise BTS for a song or an award I will receive 100 comments saying I do't know other better groups who have better vocals and whatsoever like why the fu*k u forcing me to listen other acts, if i want to I will listen to them myself and what's funny is that yes I have listened to 100 and 1000 of K-pop songs, and I did liked some of the fans but nothing made me stan the group, nothing could replace BTS for me.

I both agree and disagree. I am coming into kpop late in the game (just these last few years). I became interested because of BTS and have been an army since. I love the difference in their music. I love the messages they bring. They are amazing. They have seen me through some really rough patches. That being said, I also love other groups as well. While other groups may be more in line with the actual "definition" of kpop and BTS is mainstream, it doesn't take away from either one. I enjoy both sounds and experiences. I believe, at least these days, the biggest problem with kpop are the fans themselves, well at least a particular mindset of fans. All fandoms have their good fans that are there for the music and group and just want to chill. Unfortunately all fandoms also have a very loud group of people (and yes i am including army in this as well) that are very vocal in caring more about chart numbers and proving their bias group/artist is the best and that all others are trash. Everyday I see comments flying back and forth between fandoms, trashing each other and the artists. It's tiring. It's embarrassing. I can't begin to imagine how our artists feel knowing they get along with each other but fans can't. The artist do nothing wrong but still catch hate because their fandom's actions reflect on them as the artist. I have never seen this level of fanwars until I started listening to kpop. I have always loved music of all kinds of genres. I have never been made to feel guilty for like multiple artists until I got into kpop. There should not be a wrong way to enjoy music. We should be able to listen to, support, and enjoy whoever we relate to, whether its 1 group or the whole genre. If I want to stick with just BTS then that should be fine but I should also not be afraid to state I stan multiple groups. BTS is my bias but my love for them is not diminished in anyway by liking another group. Again, its not all the fans or even any 1 particular fandom. It's a group of fans within each fandom. Unfortunately they stand out because they are the loudest. I am not saying you have to like every group out there. You like who you like and that's how it should be. I just think that there needs to be more respect for others than what there is. Just my opinion though so I apologize to anyone I may have offended.

I agree with you if anyone wanted to enjoy music they should separate the fandoms and artist because . Artist has nothing to do with whatever fans are doing they can't control them even if they want to . Good and bad sides are everywhere it's on you what you need to see and hear . Because the side you choose is completely changed you point of view when i first joined the Twitter for bts i am on bad side of Twitter i unconsciously started to dislike artist just because i saw tweets about them even though I don't know them much and when i realised that i delete my acc. because i feel like the fandom are so toxic ,it Doesn't matter how much you try to make them understand they gonna do what they want to do specially solo stans they are the worst I don't even know how they even watched their favs because their favs are also the part of group they hate. i mean i don't find any problem to being bias towards one member but hating on other is what pissed me off. But now i decided to join Twitter again but this time i decided to be good side on Twitter and ignore and block every acc.which pissed me off rather than arguing to them . And i feel more good now ..... I am ARMY but i listen whoever i want to listen either it's kpop idols or any other artists i don't stan them as much as bts but i do listen their music.

The biggest issue I had with pop music in general is the lack of artistic freedom in developing your style and largely constructed personas of artists. By that time I'd known BTS for several years (since BS&T I think) and thought they were not my cup of tea, 'too pop-typical'. Then I came upon IDOL that proved this wrong and that's the start of my BTS journey 😊

the thing is, bts also did everything on their own, while kpop is using what bts' suceess brought them. for example: every group that is remotely successful signs under a big american label and let their labels pay for playlisting (sometimes radio spins, and sometimes even the award shows), just to create an image of them being popular in the west. part of the reason why kpop isnt being as sabotaged as bts is in the industry including the western industry, is because bts and bighit refuse to use any extra means to gain industry support and they try not to rely on those tactics so they can stay independent. most kpop agencies and groups dont care about that, they'd rather use the opportunity of the window bts opened just to ride on it while they can. and i'm not trying to hate on kpop here, i listen to a lot of groups and like many, but that's what i've been seeing and what many armys point out too

I don't like "k-pop" because most of it it's the same thing, pop-ish with a rap verse slammed in there, or the other way around, the beats sound very similar, with similar structure.
For example, to me, BPs songs sound mostly the same, same genre obviously, but the instrumentation, how it's structured. And that's mostly because the artists dont have input, and the labels just put out "hits", nd it feels like it's worse the bigger the corp or the group. Smaller/indie groups tend to do more diverse stuff to stand out and because they saw BTS having success with it, and that's good.
And also how they're force to look, wear, etc for their "concepts", by the labels, when they're grown people. (i apply this even to BTS) I understand that the biggest target is girls, but they're 30yo man, they dont need to look like a disney prince for the show/photoshot, while getting shit by the industry if they show tattoos or drinking/smoking
"BTS have creative liberties" ... Suga just stabbed a guy in a neck with chopsticks ...

Can any one tell me why more Kpop groups don't use traditional references, traditional dress, traditional beats and instruments? I now known the two meanings of the word Haegeum eg it's an 2 stringed instrument played with a bow and he's used in the music of the song and that it also means 'lifting a ban on what was forbidden'. Tbh i agree with this the only group i got into other than bts was stray kids probably because of the musical identity thing. For both of these groups I was using spotify and since i dont have premium they like to put random songs in my playlist and I accidentally stumbled upon them. I'm an arab-brit so i grew up listening to different types of music like i would be listening to Michael Jackson and then a nancy ajram that would switch into eminem or one ok rock so I never really got the stanning culture because if you like eminem you're going to like logic because they have similar sounds yet they both still have songs I dont like or I'll skip so when people were like you're not a fan of this group if you don't like all of their songs I was surprised because it's no really their song anyway they didn't write the lyrics they didn't compose they didnt do the topline or the guide so why are you getting mad on their behalf you should get mad on the producers behalf and I understand all the hardwork they put in it but somethings still lacking and I'm not discrediting them. There's a reason why artists like Adele and charlie puth blow up because you can actually feel their musical identity in the song.
Anyway the main reason I wrote this was to say kpop aint really a genre just listen to music you like you don't really need to stan an artist and have to know everything about them just listen to their song because if they're actually artists they would care more about what you think of their music than their clothes (even though clothes and style are important DONT WEAR SOCKS AND SANDALS) but also BTS call themselves idols so don't go hating on other people and stay nice, safe and healthy.
    Big hug 🫂

The debate about whether BTS is just a K-Pop act……. 💜
BTS has never boxed themselves inside a single genre musically. Through the years, they’ve experimented with just about every one, from pop and hip hop, to R&B and EDM. While they may not prefer one musical style over the other, many still consider them just a K-Pop act. The label has restricted BTS into certain award show categories in the past, which is why some fans prefer not to use it to describe the group. So, is BTS K-Pop? In a May 18 interview with Rolling Stone, RM weighed in on the debate.
BTS spoke to the publication just days before their comeback with “Butter” on May 21. Besides opening up about their dating life, military enlistment, and experiences with xenophobia, the group addressed the highly talked-about debate about whether their music is K-Pop or not. As it turns out, the question was a hard one to answer because K-Pop music is evolving every day. “That’s a very important debate. Because what they call K-pop, that genre is expanding very fast,” RM said during the interview. “For example, some so-called K-pop groups have only foreigners, from Europe, India, China, like everywhere. There are no Korean members, but they do the K-pop thing, they’re switching the parts, and so on. BTS is expanding very fast as well. And K-pop is now so wide.”
RM added the simple definition people have for K-Pop is it’s a genre “for Koreans who sing a Korean song.” However, the topic gets tough when talking about Korean artists who sing in English. “What about “Dynamite”? We sing the song in English. But we’re all Koreans, so somebody may say it’s a K-pop song. Or they may say it’s just a pop song because it’s in English,” RM said.
RM said the answer to whether BTS is K-pop or not is more important to others than it is to them. “The important fact is that we’re all Koreans, and we’re singing a pop song. So that’s the reason why we said that our genre is just BTS. That debate is very important for the music industry, but it doesn’t mean very much for us members.”
RM was referencing a February 2020 interview BTS did with Grammy.com, during which the group labeled their genre as BTS due to their music being a mix of everything. At the time, Jungkook, V, and J-Hope said, “That's the genre we want to make and the music that we want. New genre.” Meanwhile, Suga explained it’s because "It's less and less meaningful to divide music into genres now.”
There you have it. BTS isn’t letting labels define who they are, so although people may think they’re just a K-pop act, in reality, they’re just BTS. And that encompasses so much more.

I'm an ARMY. I Like some of the music from other groups as well, I will check out people /groups that I've been interested in. But for the most part they feel so different from BTS, which is by no means wrong, it's just I can't listen to all or even one of their albums all the way through. BTS is the only artists (of all time) that I've been able to do this with. They are just different, different spark, different dynamic and also a different sound. I've also been listening and following them since the early years, so I've seen what the general K-pop community turn their back and sabotage BTS and try to turn down ARMYs. Most ARMYs are actually really respectful albeit a bit protective of BTS. Just look at the ARMY project charity map. Lots of army are multistans or are respectful to other groups.
You also can't hate BTS just based on the fandom or the media. Listen to them and watch them, then decide. But most just create a judgement on groundless and ignorent novices.

I've been in the world of kpop since 2009, and I agree that kpop fans seem more divided than they used to be.
Being a multi stan back then was fine, but now seems taboo, like you're disloyal. (Which is stupid really. You don't say to a Beyonce fan that they cant listen to The Weeknd, or Linkin park or something- it's music, you can listen to whoever or whatever you want)
I liked and followed bts since their debut, but toxicity from armies made me embarrassed to call myself an army, and unfortunately I started to listen to bts less.
(I know you shouldn't judge a fandom on a few bad eggs, but they were the only ones that have ever had a go at me for being a multi stan. So that didn't certainly help. )
In the last 5 or so years I started listening to bts again, and liking their music. (I am a tad obsessed with Jimin's like crazy)
I'm happy for bts' success. I know they have worked hard, and army have worked hard. And now so many people know their name, from all walks of life.
All the hatred between fandoms in the kpop community, is just so petty. (Especially considering so many idols from different groups and companies are friends, yet their fandoms are at war with each other) and it would be nice if fandoms got along more, and spent time boosting each other up instead of dragging each other down- or maybe, just enjoying the music/performances etc that all the idols work hard on to share with us.

Normally we dont care if someone is a multi but if u throw bts under the bus or have double standards/expectations that you hold bts to but not your other faves naturally army will have a problem with that because thats hypocrisy.

And I think a large part of the army is like that too, and I don't understand why there's so much controversy about it. I never understood the fact that they criticize the fandom for consuming more the work of those who are fans. Army not liking K-pop shouldn't even be something to discuss since it's a fandom specifically. People tend to demand too much from others to meet their own needs. According to the K-Pop World Research Team, the consumption of K-Pop-related videos on RUclips grew 2.5 times from 2019 to 2022. During the same period, BTS' influence fell 2%, from 20% to 18%. It can be said that this was a very correct growth, as the size of K-pop grew, the influence of certain groups decreased, and the fan base of various groups increased evenly. BTS is not a special group in Korea at all. They fell behind the competition as a small business group, and only won the lottery by using RUclips as a promotional strategy alone. The timing was good. The development of a global video medium called RUclips, the music subtitle function, and the change of the times are intertwined. It's just that BTS benefited from the biggest era. Historically, national boy groups such as BTS have existed in Korea at all times. The biggest group in Korea in the 90's was H.O.T. Currently, the number of students in Korea is 5 million, which is about 1/10 of the total population, but in the 1990s, the student population was 15 million, and 70% of the country's population were in their teens, 20s, and 30s, and the whole country was a boy group. It was an era of passion. Therefore, the popularity of H.O.T and BTS cannot be compared. The only difference is that there was no RUclips in the 90s and that it was before the times changed. It is now too easy to create a world-class K-pop boy group that goes beyond BTS. Since K-Pop has become very global and will continue to grow in scale for some time to come, it will be very easy for boy groups beyond BTS to be born as time goes on.

It's easy to recreate a group beyond BTS by using the platforms and acceptance to kpop they have created by facing all this hardship they get as a form of racism and xenophobia
But they can't be BTS bcz they find their own way and create a path for other group in global world of music.
About data , you must also know that since they announced hiatus the kpop consumption has decreased by by 23% and decreasing but after Jimin album top hot 100 stock price of hybe increase but other ex top 3 company also increase which is not covered in media and the reason is well known just to downplay BTS and their achievements effect in overall country.

I feel like the original video is too biased toward BTS? The whole video is "Armys are not kpop fans because BTS has substance and are real artists with a music identity but no one else is" ignoring every other artist that has done anything before or during BTS's career. They do have specific factors that make them stand out and why their popularity grew when others didn't but I feel like none of that was really discussed properly. For example: BTS's marketing and how they always had content for international fans with subtitles, the rags to riches appeal, being able to talk more about their struggles, etc. Those are just off the top of my head! BTS sounds like BTS because they're the ones performing it, but tbh there are a lot of songs by BTS that easily could've been done by another group like they aren't soo different than other groups if we're going solely by music. When you listen to them you can even hear inspiration from other kpop groups or them following trends and that's fine! Also, there's a whole discussion to be had about the inherent competitiveness in the kpop world with how much charting and awards matter to fans and how that clearly comes into play. Why would Armys listen to anything else when those groups and idols are positioned as being in competition with BTS? That alone is a better answer than most of what the video creater said. I wish the person who did this video actually discussed what they were trying to discuss instead of using this to just say "well BTS is better and the haters are jealous." I love BTS too but this isn't it.

This year I have branched out to a lot of new groups, as I realized my music taste has changed and no longer adores the music they create as much. The fandom has such a toxic attitude towards multistans and it’s incredibly sad, because there are so many talented groups that deserve love. While I don’t follow bts as much as I used too, I still watch for their releases and respect them for introducing the world to K-pop. • @sydneydefreitas5157
      @sydneydefreitas5157 Год назад +28

No. Stray Kids are K-pop through and through. Your examples are not the reason why a group wouldn't be called K-pop. It's how a group got their reach, and how that group were brought up. BTS had absolutely no media power, had to promote with their OWN videos and shows, and had to speak to fans using social media, and CREATED an entertainment company empire on their own, using a fanbase that started from scratch. They were absolutely cut off from all K-pop connections. They were cut off from using the resources that make a K-pop group, a k-pop group.
In other words, if K-pop is an industry, and you are blocked, bullied and barred from entering that industry, you are then forced to make your way using something other than K-pop.
Stray Kids were created from a funded, televised show, they debuted under a Big 3 group and their music videos are very much K-pop coded, regardless if they filmed them or not. However, what I will say about them is that their artistry is admirable and their ability to self-produce is commendable. Their music is different, but that's only because they have artistic identity. However, that makes them a kpop group WITH artistic identity, and not necessarily a group that isn't K-pop. I'll also say that they're probably one of the best k-pop groups out right now. However, They are still K-pop because despite all the things you've listed, they've had media and financial support from the K-pop industry from the very beginning. They've used the kpop industry to grow themselves and their fanbase, and that is where the difference lies between BTS and every other k-pop group.
Example: RM and SUGA are not idol rappers, because they weren't brought up as rappers in the K-pop industry. They were brought up outside of it. However, J-HOPE is an idol rapper, because he learned rap through the guise of becoming a rapper in a k-pop group. Hobi used k-pop to become a rapper, while RM and SUGA didn't. This isn't to say that Hobi is a bad rapper tho, he's the best idol rapper, hands down. There's just a line there, because of how they were brought up in rap. It's the same with Stray Kids and BTS.

BTS is what got me into Kpop in general. I absolutely adored their older stuff. But recently I haven’t been that interested in their newer stuff, especially their English stuff. So I sort of… left the fandom. I still listen to the new songs they put out but I don’t really engage with the fandom. So now I’m a casual fan I guess. I wouldn’t say my music taste changed per say since I can still listen to the older stuff and a few select new songs.
But I feel like this person “the person narrating the video” is subtly throwing shade at the kpop industry just to prop BTS on a pedestal. The boys trained under and are still part of a kpop company. They are kpop. I don’t like this mentality that if a group has more creative control over their image or a hand in song writing, they aren’t considered kpop. Stray Kidz and G-idle have more control over their image and songs, are they not kpop either? Why not say that the industry is changing and BTS helped. Big Hit ALLOWED BTS to be more involved in songwriting and concerts after they went through the same training other idols did. If BTS started without Big Hit then yeah you can make the argument that they’re not kpop.
I know the narrator made this video as a reply to that kpop journalist and to be honest, I think the article sucked too. But she didn’t have to make this whole thing about how BTS is different from the kpop industry because their not just about pretty faces, dances, and flashy concepts. You can just say you like what you like and move on. It came off as her discrediting the hard work idols put into entertaining their audiences.
And the idea that you can’t recognize which group a song is from because other groups don’t have any “artistic identity” is so bizarre to me. You identify songs based on the vocalists in them? Their genre? Their generation? Yes, it’s really nice that BTS got to choose their own “artistic identity” but just because companies get to choose for other groups doesn’t make them less identifiable.
It’s also just like… really strange how she assumed all fans of kpop don’t listen to the music of groups based on views? I listen to music through a CD player and music downloaded to my device when I don’t have internet. Not to mention the hundreds of lyric videos that international fans listen to.
Just… I don’t know. This video doesn’t come off as very researched. It’s very obvious what she is trying to say here: BTS are real artists cause they makes their own music and shouldn’t be put in the same category as those idols that only know how to sing, dance, and look pretty for the camera.
Sorry for the rant. I really don’t like these kinds of videos. This one wasn’t the absolute worst I’ve seen but still pretty poor. Be careful around the kpop commentary scene Seb, not all of them are great, most can even be downright toxic.(not saying this person is one is)

      2. I'm a little confused, maybe you need to clarify this part?
      3. I'm sorry but I don't really understand how it doesn't come of as discrediting the other idols. The examples she used to set BTS apart from the others really came off weird. Its like she was calling other groups souless because they have no creative control.
      4. She doesn't say less identifiable. She said "If I showed you the most popular kpop songs from this year or from any other year, you wouldn't really be able to tell which group they are from because k-pop groups don't really have any artistic identity" What exactly does she mean by this? I can recognize a song by MCND or Treasure. The same for a song by StayC or LOONA. I can tell who they are because I listen to different groups. The narrator clearly doesn't.
      5. I will agree that my stance is an assumption. However, I take issues with the fact she uses view numbers to insinuate that kpop fans don't actually like to listen to the music of other groups? What number is she using when she says "songs only". Is it on Spotify?
Also, what does she mean if the members were ugly people would still listen to their music? Implying that if other groups turned ugly people wouldn't listen to their music anymore? How does she know that for sure?
      6. Yes it is not well researched. I agree with your reasoning too. And yeah I guess I am a bit upset. But it really stems from the fact that she doesn't want BTS to be categorized as Kpop. Yes I still think she wants BTS to be classified differently when they shouldn't.
      7. Thank you for being respectful! :D I did get a little confused at 2 so I'd love some clarification! Also, nice to see another casual kpop fan. Got any recommendations?

A lot of K-pop stans in the comment section are talking about how other groups also write and produce their own music so what’s the difference between them and bts?
Well the difference is how good they are at it, bts’s artistry and lyricism are known to be the best in korea. Rm’s lyrics, flows and puns alone can outdo the whole industry. Any group can produce and write their own music they just have to be good at it. So the difference between these groups and bts is the artistry and musical authenticity which most of these groups do not have.

So true I often get comments about that ohh blackpink also write songs ..... If blackpink does write the song then why don't talk about it or fumble when they ask about what's the process of the song making
