    just some early first impressions, the defensive pressure is a core part of arpg's that i felt has been missing. these changes have addressed a bit of that and this is my initial thoughts.

      It wont stick around. People dont play ARPGs cause they like focusing on defensive stuff. They play them to see how high they can scale silly damage numbers. Stacking defensives sound super boring. Guaranteed the penalties per torment level get nerfed.

      What I don't like is that our 100 armor turned into level 50 I mean what is the point of hunting for good armor if every season they make our last season trash armor. 😮

    The higher torment tiers are supposed to be difficult. It forces players to think about defenses instead of trying to one shot everything before they die. Also, you are not forced to go to higher torment tiers. You can get everything in torment 1 which is similar to current endgame. It's just that being able to go into higher world tiers reward you with better loot drops but you have to have a really good build to do so. Casuals will probably settle in torment 1 or torment 2 and the veterans can enjoy the higher torment tiers.

      I think they're just trying to make it easier to understand for new players in the future. With as much as the game has changed from what it was at launch up to now, it's hard to keep up if you haven't played in a while.
      Separating the skill point acquisition phase of leveling (in other words the "choose your build" aspect of the game) from the Paragon portion of leveling (enhance the power/survivability of your build) makes it easier to understand for a new player. Or rather, I'm assuming that's their logic. It "creates" two separate tiers of character progression, by explicitly separating them... Which they already were because you couldn't earn Paragon levels until you completed your skill point levels. But it allows them to add more skill points/base levels in the future without having to also rework Paragon again, if they don't want to/feel Paragon is still okay at that time.
      Edit: I am only referring to the new skill leveling/Paragon leveling changes. Nothing else.

    Levelling through the campaign all the way to the endgame was my best Diablo experience since D2. You need to stop and think through what to change, and if it's worth to change it. All vendors have decent gear sometimes now. Also, it was hard and challenging, but not a pain. No more weird random one shots, no more raining legendaries and uniques. Uniques are even rarer now which makes them more "unique" finally. It makes the game a bit more mental and tactical than just a "press a button to blast" which is something I never was a fan of. Leveled my first lvl 60 HC character today and i still did it under 6-7h. It's the endgame through the Torment level like stated in this video that all will be way more relevant (paragon, glyphs, masterworking)
    Big W for me. All they need to do now is make dungeons actually dark like the new helltides at night and not like the sun is always around in a creepy dungeon.

    for itemization and builds to be interesting, there has to be a choice between damage and survivavabilty. Reaching the armor/resist cap should be a choice that comes with consequences (lower damage output). But at the same time, NOT getting to armor/resist cap should also be viable. You should definitely have to get close to the cap (90%of cap maybe?) to not get literal one-hit but it should be possible to clear content faster without a capped resist build (more glass cannon style) than it is with a capped resist build (more of a tank/grind them down style)

    The defense and resistance chase is what killed Last Epoch for me, and when I saw this in D4 I was very worried it would be the same thing. In LE I was starting to push up through corruption and I got a really nice piece of gear, almost godlike for my build. But if I put it on, I lost too many defenses from the item I already had, so I had to swap out another piece of gear to get that defense up, which caused something else to drop, and I had to try to get defenses up again... and it turned out to put on a single upgrade you needed to have a complete set of alternate gear either already stored and ready, or be prepared to farm it or try to craft it... and it meant that the good feeling for getting a great piece of gear was completely ruined. When I realized that getting an almost best in slot piece of gear meant I couldn't equip it without going down in power a lot because I couldn't survive, I just stopped playing.
    If the same happens in D4, that will stop a lot of people from chasing gear. What is the point in getting a great piece of gear if you can't equip it without going back a difficulty level because you lose too much defense? I kind of understand they are trying to make it that you will get the defenses you need as you level up in paragon and focus on improving there in order to survive and that will make the gear chase better, but it won't be enough.
    You get a great item, and then you need to store it and try to find the other items to be able to equip it, so you need to keep multiple sets of gear in order to have options based on what drops on different items. In LE it was bad enough when you had almost endless storage. In D4 with it's terrible storage limits, this is going to be even worse.
    I can not see this being a success in any way for anyone except the few who love chasing the hard core challenge or the one who lifestyle games like this. For the players who come for a burst of power fantasy fun, this is going to be a removal of a lot of the "reward" aspects of the game.
    I have never been in the "D4 bad" camp, I have skipped a season because I wanted to take a break, but I have enjoyed most of my time in the game and it has had issues, but this is the first "D4 is going bad" change I have seen.

The old thing is that you get the resistance very quickly and then never think about it again and that they are basically so boring that you don't have to worry about them much and in principle you could remove them completely in the old system. In the old system everything revolves around having absurdly high damage numbers and oneshotting everything brainafk, which is extremely boring and gives me no motivation at all to play for long in the endgame. But now with the new system I could have a puzzle, which would motivate me longer in the endgame.

    I plan to play PTR tonight or tomorrow night after work. Maybe some on the weekend too. It does look like the new difficulties will aid in everyone now needing to put more effort into plus armour and plus resistance on items rather than just tempering all damage affixes and 1shotting everything. I like that, currently in S5 I dont think i have a single tempered affix of plus resistance and I am way over cap even with tyriels. I do have one or 2 plus % armour, or plus HP on one of my guys, but the vast majority is big dam tempers.
    I hope its going to really add to the depth of creating builds, and maybe it will make those insane 1-shot everything builds a bit harder to achieve. Not that I can ever manage to achieve one anyway.. Once I did, Blizz nerfs the bleeds on my barb.
    I think I only seen 1 Tyriels drop in S4, maybe I got one in S5 too. For the rest I have just been speed levelling toons to get the spark in S5 then deleting them and rolling a new toon. I think I am on toon 9 so far, which isnt bad since I work 60+ hours a week.
    Based off this content, the only thing I am concerned about now is it kinda appears as if the chase for gear is much harder than before, yet we can still brick it almost all the time in tempering. That might leave a funny taste in player's mouth even more so than tempering already does. For one thing, DM being a streamer almost always has a great build and multiple Mythics on day 1, this is kinda day 2 almost of the PTR and still trying to get to the final difficulty and trying to find gear. So if a streamer with lots of time to play takes more than twice the time to get there, the casuals will never manage it in a season. That could be a problem, or maybe it will just mean that the casuals will just have to live with not being able to progress past T1 difficulty.

    • @Cynicv2

      Yes, because in order to survive and do optimal dps, you'll have to follow certain builds that hit all those checkpoints

    • @KH-zo8zm
      @KH-zo8zm 12 дней назад

      No because people need to understand their experimental or off-meta builds won't be doing the hardest content in the hardest difficulty. If you want to play this way you need to use the meta builds which is fine. I'm a fan of balance but not everything needs to be equal.

  • @DustinHarms
    @DustinHarms 12 дней назад

    The gear progression seems, yeah, a lot better for the game. Better pacing. Really glad they scaled down the numbers a bit, though I think it's still too high overall. I like the puzzle and "step progression" with figuring out defenses until you reach a breakpoint to do the next difficulty.
    I still think The Pit is boring after the first few runs. The Paragon board also seems super boring now, too. I like that it's account-wide, but the bonuses just seem really lame, just tiny bits of raw power to keep you getting that dopamine. Feels like a treadmill just for the sake of treadmilling.
    Especially with the scaling...like, WHY do I want to keep going into higher Torment levels? What new content can I experience? New bosses? Items that only drop from said bosses or in certain torment levels and above? I feel like they're starting to set up the treadmill better than before, but totally forgot people generally need a reason to keep going, a carrot on the stick. In PoE we've got aspirational content, bosses that you have to progress to/collect items for that unlock things that affect how you play the game (voidstones, etc.), drops specific to those, ubers, special difficult content like simulacrum, stuff that only shows up in deep delves, etc. There's so many things to set your mind on when you get to endgame.
    Then D4 is here like, "Hey we made the progression feel better," while the only thing to look forward to now is....progressing more? Because bigger number better?
    I dunno man, it sounds good, but it's not enough, at least for me.

      as long as you complete pit tiers that are 10+ levels higher than the level of your glyph, it's 100% chance to upgrade. and 1-3 upgrades per run, based on completion, and a bonus 4th if you don't die.
      obviously it will get to a point where the chance to upgrade for each attempt is lower as you hit your ceiling (and it's probably not pit tier 100)

    with the resist and armor hits going up torment levels...... they should add some vendors to each major region town that sells components and/or oils to apply on gear like Grim Dawn. could give a reason to maybe level up renown during a season. and with components, i would be just adding things like just +armor, +resist, maybe something like extra damage types. not all the other fun types that grim dawn, just basic stuff to help more with defense

  • @keiichi8191
    @keiichi8191 11 дней назад

    NOW you have to start thinking about defenses? Bro, the majority of my builds are currently focused on damage mitigation everywhere I can get it, and I STILL get one shot by an awful lot of stuff in Pit 100+ and Horde tier 8. I've BEEN thinking about defenses. This sounds like a nightmare. It sounds like I'll need to have armor, health, and elemental resistance on literally everything that can roll it so as to not get one-shot constantly, leaving nothing for actually putting together an enjoyable build.
    Unless they're making it so that getting to armor and resistance caps on its own actually provides all the protection you need in the highest tiers. That's the only way I can see this making any sense. If it remains like it is now where getting to the caps is just the baseline and you have to stack multiple sources of damage resistance on top to have any real survivability, this is going to be incredibly limiting.
