John D on last night's stream seemed to be really intent of focusing on the wants and needs of the "community". He said he wasn't doing this targeting the masses, but the "community". If that's true, why not start with "Robotron 2084", "Q-Bert", or "Track-n-Field"? People in the "community" have been screaming for those cabinets for 2 years (including me). I get it....John is a "fighter" guy. But....I think the "community" wanted something different.
The thing is with Arcade1up is that they had to pitch them to retailers and even Best Buy was afraid to bite for some titles. They made all these prototype cabinets like a 6-player X-Men, Smash TV, Q*bert, sit down Spy Hunter, etc. and none of them made it to mass production. So, they stuck with what the retailers were willing to carry which meant more Pac-Mans and more MK's and SFII's. And when John D. left or was canned, Tastemakers released less cabs and no new licenses. Didn't Scott Bachrach resign? Retailers don't want these big boxes of Arcade1ups taking up floor space or space in the back. These new ones by John D./Media1up/Iconic Arcade are more of a niche product for gen X'ers/collectors. My local Walmart got rid of all the 1ups in store and used the space for TV's.

There’s no way KI was worth 1k and 799 is probably where that should have been with the iircade gold. I think 699 max for what we are seeing especially if there’s more coming. Have a good day 👊
You could do partial payment Phil. You don't have to pay the full amount right away. I think that's what I'm gonna do. Pay the rest off at a later date.
I agree that all future releases hinge on the success of this cab. John sold this one with the strength of his passion, but now the bean counters at iconic will decide the fate of future releases. I picked it up because this is my dream cab, and this is what I would've paid for KI pro. I also like that the skins are limited release and new inventory runs will have different ones, which adds value to me. I also think the people that are waiting on dedicated 70s and early 80s cabs from iconic may be disappointed. I honestly don't think 700-800 dedicated games cabs from those eras will sell well enough to justify making them. Fighting games still have entire communities that will support them, and you can also pair them with beat em ups that are fun and accessible for everyone. Plus graphically they're still good enough to hold the attention of both older and younger audiences. I think the 1up price points are max pricing for that 70s- early 80s cab specific market. From a marketing perspective I think 90s-2000's games will be the target to appeal to a bigger market. Hope I'm wrong and everyone gets what they want but just looking at it from a business perspective. Anyhoo, I'm very happy with this, but think you're being smart waiting and seeing what happens if it's not your thing.
Thank you for breaking this down Saiyanspirits I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. If it was direct to consumers I think more 70’s & 80’s cabs but with retailers it will be about selling cabs. There’s always others who could create something like Q-Bert this could spiral a completely new wave for us 👊
I like your thinking on this. Wait and see. Personally I’m passing now that I know more cabs are coming. It would make sense to sell your 3 SFs because it’s XXL and has everything the others have plus Pi5. I think $599 price point would’ve guaranteed a sold out wave 1.
I'm with you. Why preorder? With these coming to stores, there will be plenty and there may be sales. I'm interested, but need to see the finished product as well.
Hey Phil! Preordered the alpha. I returned my hs-5 yesterday to Walmart. I still had not opened it. I wanted to keep it to mod but am trying to do better in 2025 lol.
Iconic Arcade is great for people that have been wanting XL cabs. But I’m fine with the A1UP cabs I already have, plus like you said they would stick out like a sore thumb unless you are willing to slowly transition over to the larger cabs. On sale for $100 off is just a sales tactic, I get why they do it but I don’t like it. $599 would be a more realistic price, especially for the pre order.
Hey PD7 I know you wanted a Shaq jam but what if iconicarcade gets a XXL of nba jam like the deluxe with the right graphics and BOE monitor. Might be worth holding out to see and if price is the same as these new cabinets.
I’m interested but someone has a video of the prototype and there are a lot of issues. The sticks are clones, the buttons are mushy clone Sanwas which aren’t correct for SF2. The screen has gaps, the power button is next to the speaker. For $700, I at least want real HAPP buttons and joysticks.
Great vid Phil! I preordered the Alpha 2 version. It was something I was waiting for, so I pulled the trigger now. Apparently if you preorder it now, they are going to give you Captain Commando for free. I’m curious if Knights of the Round is 3 player and Captain Commando is 4 player because from what I’ve heard on the streams, the PI5 can do it. I keep hearing rumors of being able to download new games to it too. Hopefully we can get some clarity on those things which can help people make up their minds.
It's bigger than the Arcade1up XL'S. It's 28 inches deep, not including the control deck. That's almost a full-size cabinet. John D said he only wants about 3k to 5k cabs made. He wants to make them collectible kinda like Burgertime, then make another cab.
I don’t they might sell out, it’s a chance some of us will take. I guess if it did happen the next release we would probably approach differently. To be honest I hope they do :)
Hey Phil, good video and good points. I’m also going to wait this out and see what other titles and skins they release. I’m pretty much out of space in my game room but could move a cabinet downstairs (thinking Blitz) to my office to make it fit. I also currently don’t own a SF cabinet so it tempting to get SF2, but I don’t think these are going to sell out anytime soon and like you, I’m going to see what comes out next or maybe even see a price cut later in the year to $599.
Yeah Phil, I sold it about a month ago along with OG Golden Tee. I sold both to a guy just getting into the home arcade community for $500. He was super stoked to get both of those cabinets.
@ yeah I have three XL’s now with Pac-Man, Shaq, and the GT/Midway cab. I’m mainly only interested in the XL’s moving forward. I noticed the other day when navigating through the games on the GT/Midway with the trackball it seems that the trackball sometimes doesn’t want to move right. It’s mainly noticeable on the main menu with the 20 games list. Do you have that same issue? The trackball plays fine in the games though.
I’m toying with buying 2 of them (if my budget allows it), make/mod one into sorta what the capcom legacy one I own, just making/modding my own games list, and then keep the other as is, then turn my capcom legacy into something out. Man my brain is getting fried with ideas lol.
@ I’m 50/50 at this point. Due to the price I may do the pre-order only because. Then also for budgetary reason may hold off but I don’t want to miss the good deal and shoot my self in the foot afterwards if I don’t jump at it lol
The cabinets & design are A++. They are finally giving us the Street Fighter Alpha series as well as a version of SF3. Personally, they should have just done All the street fighter games, especially the first one, all versions of SF2, the SFA series games, all 3 versions of SF3, and maybe throw a surprise in there. Overall happy with the what they are doing. Having a raspberry Pi5 in it does give the modding of it endless possibilities to add games. We shall see
Even though I think the concept is cool and the cabinet looks great. I pretty much have all the cabinets I want, unless I get my mind blown with a cabinet I've been really waiting for. So would I be interested in getting these XXL Street Fighter cabinets? The answer is nope, I have zero interest. But I'm sure there are a lot of people drooling and going crazy in their mind as you are. But also they are going back and forth about the pros and cons of pre-ordering it or buying it when it releases. You made some good points in the video man. A lot that people can reflect, diagnose and think about. And like you said. Make the choice for you and it's something you want. Instead of getting FOMO and such.
14 seems to be the magic number on these, although did you hear Captain Commando being a bonus game? I hope this opens the door to more Capcom beat em ups :)
The cab looks amazing job and with light up coin doors and 19 monitor hmm $700 little bit maybe at $599 I would pre order but I'm Street Fighter out like Pac Man we something new and fresh for 2025 like Narc,Smash TV and Total Carnage,Robotron
Hey Phil, im so on the fence with these. There are things i like, and some i dont. I will have to wait to see the finished product. Have a great day today, buddy. 👊
Hey Jess :) I remember when you asked me 2 years ago would I replace all of my riser with deluxe and I kind of said yes. Would you do the same with these if you could get Outrun and I know the answer to this one :) Karate Champ
Nice video. How many times can these companies release virtually the same cabinet with slightly more games? The naming is also stupid, XL and now XXL. It’s full size or bust for me. Glad I have my original arcade cabinets with CRTs - bought them during the last 10 years for less than $700 a pop. In terms of longevity, some of the 80s games are losing value due to the growing age of collectors. Will happen to the 90s games at some point.
Thank you Andrew, as long as they don’t give us another NBA Jam this soon :) I think it’s a safe start and one John’s passionate about, but the retailers will have the say in what we get after.
I'd be all in on these since I dont own a fighter cab yet, but it still has the same problems the Arcade1ups has. The control deck doesn't look wide enough for two people, and from early footage, it looks like it shakes pretty bad. Also, shipping an advertised "better Arcade1up" with cheap buttons is a bad look. Just give us Happ or Sanwa from the get-go. Paying $700 just to have to mod the control deck and buttons to make it right outta the box leaves a bad taste in my mouth. If I can add games to it, I might consider it, though. Guess we'll see.
Yes I just heard the marquee is getting addressed, this prototype will get modified a little bit before release. No matter what any 2 player cab will be tight unless we’re on a 4 player deck. We will wait and see what happens, Thanks for commenting Golden Eye 👊
Hey Phil! While everyone is preordering those that know better will wait to see more details. Oddly, people have not learned by now that you don’t preorder in home arcade. 6-months is a long time to wait for this cabinet and they’re still working out the hardware and artwork. Glad you pointed out that it’s going to retail at $699 and they obviously have enough inventory ordered to where they plan on offering it at retail chains. No point of preordering this now out of fomo… and I feel bad for anyone who’s in an awkward position now of having to debate selling their current arcade1up’s just to get the same licenses in a ShaqJam-size form factor. That kinda messed up.
Uggh, I already have arcade1up's SF2 legacy and I just bought the BSA RS shooter mod. Still have to hook it up. I can't have 2 of the same skinned cabs, and I just modded this. I prefer the SF2 over the other skin. This is the one cab I would have loved to play 2 player online. I'm good at SF. Not so good at KI. I think its fine you have multiple versions as long as the skins are different. Maybe the other cab. 599 I think they would have sold tons. Even if S&H was seperate. 599 sounds better
@PDX7 ps. In your video you mentioned Q-bert. If you don't want to wait, and if you get a 4th SF, the BSA RS, if you have a 6 button deck ( like SF2 ), Q-bert is on that RS. I believe it's the Mame version too.
Having John D and some of his cohorts back in the mix is good news for the home arcade community with that said not sure why everyone is clamoring for another SF variant, seems to me that he should’ve came out with a banger right off the bat like Smash Tv/Robtron then followed it up with a House of the Dead or Daytona since the pi5 can handle those now once he has a few bangers then come back for a 3rd release with SF2 Alpha and maybe a better Atari Centipede in an XXL. Rehashes should’ve been done later on his road map. This is clamoring only to SF fans which there are a lot but playing it safe out of the gate when the community has been craving new licenses for the past 2 years is kinda disappointing
Maybe it’s his dream can he wanted to start with, if it was me I would’ve came out with 6 player X-men :) the best thing would be following up with any of those next.
@@PDX7 if I don't get a dedicated Narc XXL cabinet soon, im building my own! I ❤️ being a carpenter!!! Just might need help with electronic components!
I’m excited that there is another player but I am disappointed that they went the Street Fighter route. I’m sure it was the easiest licensing to get. Looking forward to something in the future but please no fighting games
@@thequarterdeckarcade You and me buddy...you and me! I can't get over how many people want Robotron 2084. for such a simple game it sure has stood the test of time!
I like the cab size especially as a 6'1 person Will this be an A1Up Killer? Probably not... But it it will probably make them up their game. Maybe we'll see XL's at places other than Costco When I saw the $799 price tag I was out. At $699 I am on the fence. You are right though, $599 I would have been all in. Thinking about future games, this system is powered by a Raspi 5, that should be able to run about any arcade game, and many retro consoles. That offers almost infinite possibilities without having to modify the PCB. Maybe it's me, but then fake coin doors annoy me... Put a real mechanism in especially at $600-700 🤣 Only one thing bothers me about this cabinet... So it has a 19in BOE monitor. But it STILL looks tiny, especially with the World Warrior bezel. It just bugs me, maybe it won't after a while, but just looking at it NOW seems weird. I am on the fence with the pre-order. I may get this, but I am moving in a month and a half and currently don't have a place for it... Even if I were to buy it it would have to sit in the box for 2 months. Is it worth it to me? I don'tt see it ever going to $799,.that is just marketing to make it look like you are saving money by pre-ordering. But how quickly it goes to $599 is the question I am wondering.
I do wish the coin doors would be functional too, 699 isn’t the worst but I think more of us jump at 599 initially. 799 seems high, I paid that for iircade and never got that money out of it. You brought up a good point maybe we could add a ton of games on here. I think it’s the bezel it’s just so wide it kind of over powers monitor size. 1up should do XL on anything they can get they’re hands on :)
I wouldn’t pre-order, and for me this cab is a pass. Looking forward to what’s next, I might be in for a Q-Bert…hard to say right now. Pretty expensive though, and it has to be the perfect cab for me to jump given how hard it is for us to get them up north.
I like that they are going to be available near you, this will help sell everywhere. If you had to pick between the two let’s say it was a deal you couldn’t pass up which do you go for?
@ did you hear that they’re going to be sold in retailers in Canada, I didn’t and just assumed they wouldn’t be. If I had to choose I’d pick the Alpha cause it’s different!
Never buy the first of anything. The "reviews" we've seen gloss over the controls, say things will be fixed, and just looking at the wobble when they're being played would worry me. Let them show that they fixed the product when it gets non-biased hands.
It’s got the best beat em up library on it, I wish they would’ve added King of Dragons to this I did just hear that Captain Commando will be a bonus for preorders.
Not worth it imo. For a little more, the upgraded screen size and cabinet size are worth it alone. Unless you are happy with a 17" monitor and a thinner shakkier cabinet.
Great to see another player in this market space@@PDX7, but this Media1Up cabinet is not for my home arcade at $699. Plus, I would have additional costs shipping it to the UK, where as I can purchase an Arcade1Up Street Fighter II Deluxe for $499 including shipping.
@xcom6466 I like the slightly bigger size too, this is what attracted me to XL it’s the closest to the actual real thing I can bring home and up the second floor :)
Sup PD! I’m excited for the World Warrior Cab. I noticed that the Street Fighter games are not censored. 👍
People that pre-order get an additional game, Captain Commando
Hey Games Plus, Thank you I didn’t hear that I saw some stuff in the chat on AA Anonymous last night now that makes sense about Captain Commando.

Thank you for breaking this down Saiyanspirits I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. If it was direct to consumers I think more 70’s & 80’s cabs but with retailers it will be about selling cabs. There’s always others who could create something like Q-Bert this could spiral a completely new wave for us 👊
Glen just announded a 26" screen option and ability to utilize the GRS Flight yoke with his cabinet release... Guess that solves my dilema..
Competition in 25 :)
Phil, treat yourself don’t cheat yourself!! Pre-order man. If you want something go get it!!!!
I’m just taking my time 👊
I like your thinking on this. Wait and see. Personally I’m passing now that I know more cabs are coming. It would make sense to sell your 3 SFs because it’s XXL and has everything the others have plus Pi5. I think $599 price point would’ve guaranteed a sold out wave 1.
I would keep 2 if and when I bought most likely world warrior it would probably be my HS-5. I’d preorder for 599 :)
I'm with you. Why preorder? With these coming to stores, there will be plenty and there may be sales. I'm interested, but need to see the finished product as well.
The online is crucial:)
Hey Phil! Preordered the alpha. I returned my hs-5 yesterday to Walmart. I still had not opened it. I wanted to keep it to mod but am trying to do better in 2025 lol.
Hey Chris, great move my friend! This will look great next to Shaq 👊
Oh and SF Alpha 2 version for me for sure.
Nice!
That would’ve been a perfect price, I probably wouldn’t ended with preordering :)
Hey PD7 I know you wanted a Shaq jam but what if iconicarcade gets a XXL of nba jam like the deluxe with the right graphics and BOE monitor. Might be worth holding out to see and if price is the same as these new cabinets.
I agree definitely worth the wait to see what happens 👊
I’m interested but someone has a video of the prototype and there are a lot of issues. The sticks are clones, the buttons are mushy clone Sanwas which aren’t correct for SF2. The screen has gaps, the power button is next to the speaker. For $700, I at least want real HAPP buttons and joysticks.
I hope this was just for getting the prototype out there and address everything into production.
Looks like I’ll have to give in sooner than later Zimm :) another cab to play online with you 👊
@@PDX7 Lol, right on! They keep hinting at downloadable games - if we can download other Capcom games to this, then it’ll be way worth it to me!
@therealzimm with online is a Grand Slam :)
I pre-ordered the Alpha, that artwork is beautiful.
Nice! You’re arcade is going to be incredible Bill 👊
It's bigger than the Arcade1up XL'S. It's 28 inches deep, not including the control deck. That's almost a full-size cabinet. John D said he only wants about 3k to 5k cabs made. He wants to make them collectible kinda like Burgertime, then make another cab.
@billkirby75 this is going to be a lot bigger than I thought
Welp, Street Fighter Alpha2 pre-ordered. Street Fighter 2 Deluxe 1up has been removed from cart lol.
lol you’ve made a great choice :)
How do you know they wont be sold out before they release them?
Hey Tommy, did you sell your NBA Jam OG? I couldn’t remember if you were keeping it or not.
Yeah Phil, I sold it about a month ago along with OG Golden Tee. I sold both to a guy just getting into the home arcade community for $500. He was super stoked to get both of those cabinets.
@tommyv.856 not a bad deal for them, you’ve upgraded 2 XL’s this year :)
@tommyv.856 unfortunately yes, it seemed different in Costco when I played it but it’s even different compared to my other GT.
Imagine if one of the companies gave us a TEKKEN cabinet.
I really thought 1up would release it in 24
I’m toying with buying 2 of them (if my budget allows it), make/mod one into sorta what the capcom legacy one I own, just making/modding my own games list, and then keep the other as is, then turn my capcom legacy into something out. Man my brain is getting fried with ideas lol.
They both look really good :) are you leaning on preordering or holding off a bit
@ I’m 50/50 at this point. Due to the price I may do the pre-order only because. Then also for budgetary reason may hold off but I don’t want to miss the good deal and shoot my self in the foot afterwards if I don’t jump at it lol
@GenZod80 the selling out scenario is scary I may myself but need to just take a few days to decide.
We shall see
I hope we get more Capcom beat em ups too
If it's still particle board, no way.
I am almost certain it is
Even though I think the concept is cool and the cabinet looks great.
Thank you Atran :) I’m really interested to see how these play online and what could come after.
I so agree. That alpha is amazing. I guess I was hoping for more games. I'm not allowing fomo to trap me nor pre-order.
14 seems to be the magic number on these, although did you hear Captain Commando being a bonus game? I hope this opens the door to more Capcom beat em ups :)
@PDX7 I would love an all Capcom beat em up
@matthewalicea8910 me too :)
The cab looks amazing job and with light up coin doors and 19 monitor hmm $700 little bit maybe at $599 I would pre order but I'm Street Fighter out like Pac Man we something new and fresh for 2025 like Narc,Smash TV and Total Carnage,Robotron
I caught a little of TMNT movie this morning working out and I saw the narc cab and said we need this :)
Ima jump into it because I sold my legacy SF2
Great upgrade!
@PDX7 Not all of them. But definitely Karate Champ.
@JesterTester :) I’d love it if you were able to finally get one
Im leaning the Alpha one.
They both look incredible I’m leaning on WW but it’s a really tough call.
Indecision 2025! If you are thinking of pre-ordering, just ask Cartman what you get when you pre-order 😉
What would Butters say about preordering
@PDX7 my bad, it was Cartman, not Butters, lol.
ruclips.net/video/AV69DyOuzbE/видео.htmlsi=XP83wb-pJyC86MJ3
@nychillboy8724 lol 😂
Hey Mikey, there is a perk in getting Captain Commando with a preorder but I’m crossing my fingers it will come with the cab either way :)
Can I get a Narc XL please 🙏 😫
I’m with you 👊
Uggh, I already have arcade1up's SF2 legacy and I just bought the BSA RS shooter mod.
This could be a good problem to have like we were in 2-3 years ago :) endless possibilities
@PDX7 ps. In your video you mentioned Q-bert. If you don't want to wait, and if you get a 4th SF, the BSA RS, if you have a 6 button deck ( like SF2 ), Q-bert is on that RS. I believe it's the Mame version too.
@ericvonbergen7223 Awesome Thanks Eric!
@PDX7 oh, last point. Some video, you mentioned Spy Hunter. The BSA RR, OutRun, FF, SW, etc new PC build? It has a Mame version of Spy Hunter on it.
@ericvonbergen7223 that might be the only way we can play it at home
I built that car wash
By Menards?
@PDX7 ya. We build all jillys
@mikewarner5583 nice!
@@PDX7 if I don't get a dedicated Narc XXL cabinet soon, im building my own! I ❤️ being a carpenter!!! Just might need help with electronic components!
@mikewarner5583 keep the faith brother 👊
I want SmashTv......Lets get this done Iconic Arcade
👊
You are gonna get one you are so full of it buddy 😝 drama drama
lol you know me too well Gino :) I just don’t want to rush 👊
I’m excited that there is another player but I am disappointed that they went the Street Fighter route. I’m sure it was the easiest licensing to get. Looking forward to something in the future but please no fighting games
Someone will do it in our lifetime :)
I'm with you @stokjock! Would have loved to see something new in the early 80's genre. That something was "Robotron 2084"
@@thequarterdeckarcade You and me buddy...you and me! I can't get over how many people want Robotron 2084. for such a simple game it sure has stood the test of time!
@stokjock Sure has. Playing it now :)
Morning namco is on Nintendo ( its the blue one) super cool we are the same age ( i was a preschool teacher).
Morning Larissa, how long did you teach for?
@PDX7 about 23 started in college
@Larissa-le7dk nice, how are the roads now? Are you able to leave the house yet
@PDX7 roads are fine my driveway is cover with ice and snow and we are getting more on Friday
@Larissa-le7dk stay safe
I like the cab size especially as a 6'1 person
Will this be an A1Up Killer? Probably not... But it it will probably make them up their game. Maybe we'll see XL's at places other than Costco
When I saw the $799 price tag I was out.
Put a real mechanism in especially at $600-700 🤣
Only one thing bothers me about this cabinet...
@PDX7 time for an XL Tron or, I know it's not everyone's cup of tea... Defender
@@PDX7I was just going through FB marketplace and it made me think of something you said... Spy hunter! Yes I could really go for a proper one!
@greyshadow9498 I agree that’s all we really want just take everything they still have license for and go big :)
@baldmar5083 that’s really cool!
Never buy the first of anything. The "reviews" we've seen gloss over the controls, say things will be fixed, and just looking at the wobble when they're being played would worry me. Let them show that they fixed the product when it gets non-biased hands.
I agree hold off a little see the finished product, I have confidence that this will be good I just don’t want to wait and wait for a preorder.
There is a RUclipsr his channel is beatum uos
Sounds like a fun channel, Thanks for sharing :)
Passsssssssssss
Thanks for sharing 👊
I'm not interested in these at all. Between my iiRcades, my NES themed Retro-Cade and my modded Star Wars cab, I'm good.
If they came out with a look you’ve always wanted your dream cab would you somehow squeeze it in?
@@PDX7 I can't imagine what that would be. Maybe a XXL Star Wars cab.
I would still go for the Arcade1Up Street Fighter II Deluxe at $499, better selection of games and a more authentic looking cabinet.
Our houses in the UK are generally smaller than the houses in the US @@PDX7, so the 3/4 scale cabinets are perfect for us Brits 😃
