At the 2013 Billabong XXL Big Wave Awards, the ride earned Dollar earned $30,000 by sweeping both the Pacifico Paddle Award and the XXL Biggest Wave title. Awesome!! There's absolutely no way youtube can do justice to the sheer power I'm sure Shawn was feeling out there. I've only surfed waves maybe one quarter that big and still there's fear at being eaten up. Nature is relentless..

Looks like the size dissipated very quickly, but at its max height (around 1:40) I'd believe that to be 60 feet
While I agree the wave should be shown from start to finish (maybe at the end) they edited it like this so Shawn could describe his ride with the video.

Great ride . I think filmed as best as what they had .. unless you had chopper or drone ..way way out n down the channel is all they had . They didn't have a big cliff looking over it.

It's the respect and the fear that made this guy pull off this ride of a lifetime... I respect that mindset. The other guys for notoriety and money never earn it from me.
It's really amazing what the human body can do when adrenaline starts to pump under these situations.

Not sure how he could be noticing the bigger wider breaking wave behind the biggest wave of his life , then At that moment decide to re-enter because if he fell he would’ve been an impact zone?? That looks like a 30 ft. wave (maybe 35 ft) to me. And it looks like a relatively spread out wave face (not very steep). It's a huge wave. Don't get me wrong, but no way it's 61 ft. If that's a 61 ft.wave all the guys in Hawaii surfing 30 ft waves can add another 31 ft to their claims.
I'm gonna do that! I practice every winter on Oahu at Waikiki beach for 2 weeks on those way hot 12' orange rent a boards. I'm almost there! Really! No shit!

This guy's story is totally fabricated. First he wasn't a quarter mile down the line. When he dropped in all the other surfers were within 100ft of him. Secondly, at no point while riding that wave he was able to see out the back unless he has Superman vision and can see through the wave. He had no clue there was a clean-up set behind him until he actually pulled out of that wave.

He said, "He got to the top and saw another wave behind so he kept riding" then watch the video and tell me when he was able to the wave behind!? It's like a "I caught a fish thiiiiiiiiis big" story but he didn't even have to stretch the truth because the ride and wave were amazing! That's all I was saying!
