Great review man! I always liked the sound of classic marine band but unfortunately it's so hard to clean and is somehow unfriendly for playing... Then I started to play special 20s - yes, they are smooth, great playability BUT... never liked the sound, I was always looking for that "marine band" sound... Finally, MB deluxe is just what I need!
As always it's great to watch your videos 😄😄 I'm a Hohner guy 2 - Sp20 mostly - one MB Deluxe / but considering some more of these babes and some GM's as well. GM's for maybe playing some more melodic stuff which brings me to a request Could U do a video on playing melodic / pentatonic etc / maybe a single OB on hole 6 but nothing fancy 😄 Love your stuff Brian
Brian, thanks so much for the kind words man. I will do something on that for you for sure. As far as the models you cited there, I don't think you can go wrong with any of them! Take care brother. - Paul
Hey there, that is a loaded question! I haven't used original marine bands in years because of that and I don't like what they did with the reed plates. It's like chewing on an ice skate but that's just my humble opinion! LOL! I do love the tone though which is why I play the Deluxes primarily. Some players will tell you Manji's all the way, others will say the MB Deluxe/crossover. Me personally...I have both and don't care for Manji's. That's personal opinion though. They are both very good harmonicas and I don't think you can go wrong with either. As players we have to try as much as we can to objectively decide for ourselves what is best for us as players. That's the best advice I can give you my friend. Take care! - Paul
+POPCULTURE CHAMELEON (calibur 454) That's why I don't play the original models. These don't seem to have that problem. They still have some of the reed plate edge that protrudes, just not nearly as much. The old MBs is like chewing on an ice skate unfortunately.
Regardless of the manufacturer, quality control has always been a problem for harmonicas as far as I know. Although it seems to me that the crossovers comes really on top of the shelve. In that price range, they just come with the best factory tuning. On that particular matter, I just couldn't stand bad surprises anymore, eg playing merely in tune with a brand new harp, may it be a GM, a MB or a S-Manji. It is just so frustrating, especially when you know for sure that technique is not involved. Don't know about the MB deluxe but thank you hohner... I wish I could say the same about airtightness: it's damn good but I picked up some that were not as good. Anyway, in my opinion, if one's ready to pay the price, when it comes to consistency in quality, Seydel is just WAY better than all manufacturers (I'm talking about the 1847 line). I was just astonished by the overall quality of the instrument. It's beautiful, it's airtight, reeds responds marvelously (not as quick as crossovers but it's not about better and worse, it's just different). Ah... If only I had some money right now :)
Hey there Bertrand, While I am firmly rooted in the edict that brand to brand is pretty much personal preference, I do have to agree with you that Seydel 1847s are sweet. I have a few of them both in the wood and the silver series and they are very nice indeed! Thanks for the comments man. -Paul
P Leasum Couldn't agree more. There's definitely personal preference involved, as much as personal technique: as it grows up, things you used to hate about a particular harp become things you don't like. Seems that the more you play, the more differences between harmonicas become more precise. I sure can blow better my first leaky as hell Hohner bluesharp than when I started playing. I just wanted to stress the fact that factory tuning of the crossovers are great. I could spend more time retuning them so that they're perfect in every way but that's time consuming and my playing doesn't quite requires it... for the moment^^

Seeing as the deluxe cost double the usual marine band, all those little improvements should have been upgraded on the classic
how do these compare to the manji's? i'm interested in both i have a marine band classic but the swelling of the comb was just too much of a problem.

are the edges on hole 1 and 10 smoothed out so they wont cut your lip- that was a problem I have had with the original marine band
