    I found Homestead Florida amazing - the amount of tropical plants and fruit that they grow there is crazy - it's like a huge tropical garden there.

    I will be moving to central florida soon also. Will be sitting on 5 acres. I'm disabled though, so cant really do the bending over/ lifting. I would probably take care of trees and mow etc. haha. Thought about some raised beds, like waist high, but gardening in Florida should be amazing. haha

    I learned that if I harvest the inital main crown that the plants then give off lots of secondary shoots!!! So I just kept in harvesting over and over. I had no idea they did that!

    • @WildFloridian
      @WildFloridian  4 года назад +1

      That is awesome to hear! I just harvested most of the heads. How long did it take to get the off shoots? I'm debating on whether I clear the bed and move to the next crop. Love to hear your experience.

    Up here in Tampa and life has been in the way of our garden this winter. I literally have ZERO plants growing 😳😳 so seeing yours has me excited/sad hahaha I think if I can get to it this month I can basically plant anything at this time (maybe not tomatoes/corn/eggplant)

    • @WildFloridian
      @WildFloridian  4 года назад +3

      Howdy neighbor! 😄 You can definitely get most things going now... even tomatoes! I definitely understand how life can get in the way. I've been working such late hours... I had to harvest broccoli in the dark 😂. Just do a little bit if you can't find the time to do a whole project. Maybe get one pot going or one small bed or start some seeds. But at the end of the day, gardening is for enjoyment 😊 So just like we have seasons for growing, maybe you just need to be in a season of not growing your garden but focusing on the other parts of your life. Wishing you the best 😄

    Sweet potato leaves ... how do you use them? How many do you harvest at a time, so as to not disrupt the root [potato] growth?
    I'm hooked!

    I’m on the Treasure Coast, sadly the squirrels dug up my garlic but my shallots are doing really well. I’m getting ready to finish pulling the kale and start amending the bed for tomatoes and peppers.

    Hey girl, I’m just up the road from you! So excited to find your channel! I love butter crunch lettuce and I’ve been struggling with it. How much sun does your area get per day. It looks shady, and I’m wondering if I should move mine to a shadier spot. I have them in full sun and they are barely growing. I mean like an inch tall…. Would love your advice :)
    Also, garlic and onion update and any tips would be cool. Thanks for your videos 🤗

    What variety of bananas 🍌 are you growing? I’d love to ass a few but don’t want giant tall plants ;) how long do they typically take to fruit?

    • @ronhart4166
      @ronhart4166 4 года назад +2

      Cavendish dwarf bananas do very well for zone 9. They grow to about 8ft tall and clump very well. I purchased them from (Sow Exotics) a local fruit nursery here in Polk Co. Check them out! They do mail orders!! I have 3-year-old plants and this year's harvest was incredible! Started with two plants. This year we got 12 racks. We put 8x1lb freezer bags up for smoothies. Several loaves of banana bread. Shared with friends also !! Highly recommend.

    • @WildFloridian
      @WildFloridian  4 года назад +2

      I have two varieties in my yard Gran Na'an and Dwarf Cavendish. I defintely recommend growing bananas! They are so easy.
      The banans in this video are both Gran Na'an that I propagated from the bananas in my food forest. They take 9 to 12 months to put out a bunch of bananas (usually depends on whether they are fruiting through the winter). The Gran Na'an get 12 feet tall and the Dwarf get 8 feet tall. I got my dwarf cavendish from Home Depot and I see them at Lowes from time to time too.
      Dwarf Cavendish or another dwarf variety are good if you have a small space.
