  • April 7, 2009: Day 2, Session 1 of my visit to the Airkix indoor wind tunnel in Milton Keynes, which is 30min north of London by train. Adam coached me on head-down flying today, and I was starting to really feel confident by the end of the session.
Unfortunately, the metal wires of the net (the "floor") moved far enough apart for my head to fall through on my final flight, which you can see happen at 7:27. I burst a blood vessel in my right eye from the accident and decided to take the rest of the day off to see a doctor in hopes that nothing was seriously wrong with it. The tunnel staff were all extremely helpful finding me medical help post-accident; my coach even drove me to a nearby clinic for an eye exam.
After the exam, I received the good news that my injury was akin to a flesh wound with no real damage to my eye or loss of vision. I do think I'm gonna wait the 2-3 weeks for it to heal before trying head-down again (just to be safe), but I'll be back in the tunnel working on sit-flying again tomorrow!
Music is "Bat Out Of Basilton" by The Tangent.
